On the Hunt

SNIPShe watched as he sat on the chair that seemed a bit too small for his frame. “Don’t worry about learning it. Most find it difficult to pronounce because most languages only produce sound on the exhale. I am Cam’ h”lan, from a tiny planet far, far away from everywhere.” She swallowed more of the coffee, then traded it for the full cup he’d brought. “Names are important to my people—they are thought to guide their bearer, to a degree, through life, but the closest I can get to translating it in Federation standard is ‘Best to move through life alone’.”
He nodded as she explained the significance of names in her culture. It made perfect sense… names were meant to be important, they were one of the first pieces of personal identity you were given in life. His head tilted slightly as she provided the standard translation to see if she was making a self-deprecating joke.
She wrinkled her nose to show she understood how the explanation would probably be perceived, then ran a manicured index finger around the rim of the cup. “And you? How do you move through your life?”
—Fin, CIO
Watching her facial expression he saw that she was serious, then she asked about his status and a slight smile spread across his face. He shrugged his shoulders before responding, “I don’t know about moving through life alone… I believe ‘no one stays for long’ would be a more apt translation for my situation.” His expression remained light, though his tone carried a certain since of gravity/introspection with it. He caught himself before his mind travelled very far down that road, a first meeting was no time to offload that sort of baggage on someone.
“Hmmm,” her mind automatically translated that little gem into her native tongue. She would take it out later and have a look at it.
“Have you been on the Wolverine long? I only just arrived myself.” He said.

Fin shook her head just enough to make a portion of it fall in front of her shoulder. “I, too, have just arrived. I awaited the Wolverine on Risa and boarded as soon as they were in orbit. I still have a few check ins to do, but I was in need of sustenance to get me through it. Coffee won over Rum this time, but not by much.”
Coryn smiled and cocked his head at the statement… so she was a rum drinker, that just earned her another point in the plus column.
Greenish-brown eyes moved from his face to the collar where his single pip sat. “Aren’t you a little old to be an Ensign? Or are you just good at pissing people off?”
Now the slight smile that raised the corners of her shapely lips, ‘did’ put a sparkle in her eyes. Fin enjoyed people who bucked the system.
—Fin, CIO
“Yes and yes.” He said matter-of-factly though his tone did carry some amusement. “I started my career in Star-Fleet at the age of eighteen as an enlisted piece of phaser fodder that was shipped around to various contested hell holes that were deemed too dirty to insignificant to send my commissioned brethren to, lest they question the ideals of the Federation.” Disillusionment dripped from his words.
“But being enlisted can only take you so far… spent a few years as a Chief Warrant Officer when I was presented with a choice, continue on doing my job as I had been with no prospects and no possible way of moving forward or go the Academy route… earn a commission… and climb the ladder that way.” He shrugged, “As old as I might feel, I decided I was too young to live a life without prospects so a year or so ago they transferred me over to the academy, and here I am.” The man took a long pull from his all but forgotten tea.
“Well I showed you mine… time to show me yours.”
Vinoda Sec
Fin laughed. “I’m Intel, so there’s very little I can show you without the proper clearance. However, if you want to talk about something other than our careers, that could be arranged—but it will have to be at a later time.” She drained the rest of her coffee and set the mug down. “I still have some things to do to finish reporting in and I shouldn’t put them off any longer.”
“I look forward to it then.” Vinoda responded sincerely.”
She stood and looked down at the handsome man. “I’m sure I’ll see you around, and thanks for the coffee.”
Feeling better than she had when she’d entered the mess, Fin headed for the door.
—Fin, CIO
“Anytime.” He responded to the the thanks. Then he watched her walk away with a pang of disappointment, though the Wolverine was a small ship and he knew he’d see her around.
Upon entering she noticed a few shipmates already there and engaged in conversing among themselves, smiling and nodding in greeting as her and Nobs found a table and sat down. Letting out an exhausted breath trying to decide what would be for lunch.

Momentarily composing herself she hands off her replicator rations card to Nobs asking him to please grab her a salad and an iced glass of southern sweet tea. “get something for yourself also if you like, you have been an enormous help to me lately, you deserve a treat.” “thank you doctor,” He looked back over his shoulder as he went to do her bidding. As she aimlessly watched him she noticed some one standing looking as if they was about to walk out. Quickly she looked away so as not to appear to be nosy. She clasped her hands together on the table and waited for Nobs to join her with their lunch.

As Fin left, Coryn said “You’re not nearly as subtle as you’d like to believe doctor.” The man’s voice was full of good humor. It wasn’t uncommon for people to observe the goings on of their peers. Though he’d been paying attention to the intel officer who just left, Coryn’s training and career experience also made him aware of those around him. “You and your friend are welcome to join me if you wish.” He said opening the invitation.
Vinoda Sec
ooc Thank you i was beginning to think i was invisable.
DianaiC She blushed at the man getting up to join him motioning to Nobs to join her. Sliding in next to him she offered her hand in greeting her eyes lingering over his well groomed beard before looking into his hypnotic eyes. ”Lenore Mantis, nice to meet you Sir.” She said as Nobs sat down across the table from them. “Thanks” she said to him as she wrapped a long thin hand around her tea and took a good long swallow. Her green eyes peering over her glass at the handsome security officer.

Coryn shook the offered hand noting how small the doctor’s hand felt in his own, “Pleased to meet you.” He responded, “My name is Coryn Vinoda, please call me Coryn no need for formalities in such a casual setting.”
As Nobs joined them, Coryn shook his hand and exchanged introductions. With the formalities out of the way, Vinoda returned his attention to the young doctor as she appeared to clearly be the ring leader. He allowed his eyes to survey the pair as they all shared a momentary silence after the introductions. Non-verbal communication had the ability to tell you much more than verbal communication if you knew what to look for. Coryn’s eyes told him that the doctor carried a certain hunger… he had a suspicion about what she was hungry for, but he thought it might be fun to just let the situation play out as it would.
“So Doctor, I’m new here… have you been aboard the Wolverine long?”
OOC: What does the good doctor look like?Vinoda Sec
Sitting her tea back on the table she replied with, “only aboard a few days now so yeah I guess I am new as well.” She began eating her salad as her eyes observed the gentleman. My friend Nobs arrived about the same time as I. “Have you been in security long?” Pushing her glasses back up the bridge of her nose she asked him as she continued eating her lunch.

“I started out enlisted and worked my way through the ranks there before finally making the jump to the officer ranks a short while ago.” He said nonchalantly. “How do you like the Wolverine so far?” He asked.
Vinoda Sec
Looking up to nobs before answering the handsome security officer she said. “you better go relieve our npc, I shall join you shortly.” Nobs nodded and left to go do so. Looking back at coryn, “how do I like it so far….hmmmm.. so far it’s been awfully quiet actually. My DH seems to be not abored at the moment so no bording check in with them as of yet. The counselor seems to be absent as well so I just made myself to home best I could. It’s been quite uneventful thus far, other than the flood in sick bay.”
