USS Wolverine
Security Station Deck 4 (COS Office) - Checking In
SNIP
Alita had been reading the morning reports and had just set aside Vinoda’s file when the chime rang.
“Open…” she called automatically.
When the door opened Vinoda was greeted by the smell of fresh coffee and assorted pastries. Nothing replicated.
- Alita, MO/COS
As the door slid open in front of him, Coryn caught himself unconsciously smoothing the front of his uniform and stopped the fidgeting to step forward into the office. The aromas that filled his nostrils were nothing like what he was leaving behind in the hallway. The scent coffee and confections wafted into the depths of his soul. Replicators generated the majority of Star-Fleet food, and while the machines did a fair job of emulating the taste of food they did not generate the soothing smells that real food produced. Vinoda’s posture visibly relaxed around his shoulders as did his expression around his eyes. For a moment, his mind threatened to take him into some far away memory though he suppressed that urge.
A moment later, Coryn’s eyes found the Chief at her desk. “Good morning ma’am.” He said in way of formal greeting, “Ensign Coryn Vinoda reporting for duty.”
OOC: If she prefer’s ma’am just let me know and I’ll know to fix it in the future.
Vinoda SecAlita rose to greet the ensign and was immediately reminded of her diminutive stature again. Why were all the women in her family so damned short? Or was the rest of the universe just tall she wondered.
“At ease and welcome to the Wolverine Ensign. Please help yourself and be seated. I’ll admit, I’ve just been going over your file and it is rather impressive but, I find it better coming from the source than Star Fleet records.”
ooc: Ma’am please.
- Alita, MO/COS
Coryn moved over to the assorted delights and took a pastry and poured about a third of a cup of coffee. He’d never much cared for the taste of the beverage, but the warmth of a mug as he held it in his hands and the scent were intoxicating. He took a seat as directed and responded to the comments about his record, “You’re very kind.” He fell silent a moment as he took a bite of the pastry allowing her to dictated the flow of the conversation. He wasn’t sure what all she knew, or wanted to know, but he was also not generally one to provide unsolicited information about himself… some might even consider him the human embodiment of the proverb about having two ears and one mouth to listen more than speak.

Alita took another cup of coffee and a lemon bar back to her desk. She could already sense he was going to be a bit tight lipped but, perhaps, that wasn’t a bad thing, at the beginning.
“I think you will find this ship a little different than what you’re expecting or what you are used to. I prefer to learn about a person by listening to what they tell me and watching their actions, not just reading their records. So, tell me about yourself and then we’ll go tot he holodeck and we’ll get to see if you can put your boss on her ass.”
- Alita, MO/COS
Coryn cracked a small grin at her comment. He had no doubt that she was likely baiting him, a person of her stature didn’t achieve her position by accident… though he was curious to see her skills first hand. “Typical spacer sob story I suppose. Born on a remote colony, lost my parents at a young age. Enlisted at 18 to get out of that hell hole. Worked my way through the enlisted ranks on various backwater contested planets seeing things that most Starfleet personnel aren’t supposed to see. About a year or so ago I hit the wall of how far my career could progress without pursuing a commission so I was transferred to the Academy. Did my time and now here I am serving on my first sterile tin can in space.” Vinoda wasn’t sure if his description of the ship as a can would indicate that he was uncomfortable in the clean confines or if he was just a jerk.
