“I’m private security, and I am afraid you are inspecting the wrong facilities. The Federation owned facilities are further down the road and I’m going to have to ask you to leave,” replied the man.

“I’m sorry, my colleague use to be part of Federation Security. She’s a little jumpy… it’s her first day after her transfer to Federation Science. We’ve received reports of a potential drifting dark matter anomaly. If it interacts with an industrial replicator, it may cause an explosion. We’re here to scan the area to see if the anomaly has appeared anywhere in the area.”

The man seemed to relax a bit, but still was tense. “I’m going to have to call an escort for you, and get the boss.”

Mado looked at Acadia as to indicate that the situation wasn’t ideal. Having more people and having an escort would prevent them from what they needed to do. He wondered what excuse they could come up with to be somewhat isolated from their escort… and hope they didn’t have to meet with this ‘boss’ person the security guard mentioned. Mado had a bad feeling about it.

Acadia took a deep breath and step forward. “Look, he’s right. I messed up. And I apologize.” As she moved closer, she lifted a hand to rest it on his arm, her smile brightening up enough to light her eyes. “Can I ask that you do us a favor and not call your boss? If he finds out I’m messing up, he’ll report me.” She laughed and cocked her head to the side, “You know how supervisors can be when their toes are being stepped on by outsiders. I’ll tell you what. If you’re willing to let us go and take these readings real quick, I promise we’ll be in and out before anyone knows.” She took a final step to close in on him but dropped her arm and blushed. “Sorry… I didn’t mean to be so forward.” She looked up and took a half step back just in case he wasn’t going to receive the flirtation very well.

The security guard took to Acadia’s advances, and blushed into a bright red. “F… Fine… I’ll come back and check in 15 minutes and let the rest of the guards know to keep an eye out for strange anomalies.” The guard quickly left, while holding his hand over a certain part of his body.

“Seems like you’ve made a good impression,” remarked Mado.

The two found an office, and immediately entering the office, had an ominous feeling. It seemed to come from the unseemly vase in the corner, that didn’t look very old, and was painted with a brilliant blue color.

Acadia let out a breath and shook herself. “I hope you don’t think I do that all the time. To be honest, I didn’t even think it would work.” She laughed but it was nervous as she tugged on her blouse trying to regain her composure.

As they entered the office she shuddered again. This time it wasn’t from embarrassment. The vase made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up and she cocked her head to the side as if trying to see something she knew she couldn’t. “It seems so small a thing,” she murmured, frowning, as her hand started to reach for it unthinking.

“Stop!” shouted Mado, as he grabbed Acadia’s hand. As the senior field agent, he knew that touching things without the special gloves could mean death, and that object felt like it could do that.

“Put the gloves on first. I am guessing you are feeling that vase is unusual,” replied Mado.

GM

Mado’s bark startled her more than his touch. She suddenly backed up a couple steps. “I’m sorry… I’m sorry! I,” she shook her head to clear it and reached into hey side pouch for the gloves, her hands shaking. “I didn’t realize I was reaching for it.” She picked it, still shaking, and turned towards him. “You got the bag?”

Mado held out the bag in response.

Her heart was racing like a shuttle at warp 9. “Yeah, I guess I do feel something. Just can’t explain what.”

“I’m sorry Lieutenant for shouting at you, but I have witnessed more than one field agent making that rookie mistake you just made… and lead to an untimely death. In this job that we do, as much as it sounds illogical, you have to trust your gut,” replied Mado, “It’s also why field agents are typically paired.”

Mado had his gloves on. “I suggest you turn away from looking at the bag, it can get very bright and the electrical reaction could be great.”

Mado reached for the vase, and dropped it into the bag. It reacted with large sparks flying out of the bag and then dying down. The blue paint started to melt and it revealed the vase to be an ancient one with elaborate designs.

“Seems like this was it. We better hurry back to the ship and get this under containment. A reaction like that won’t allow the bag to neutralize the objects metaphysical properties for long.”

GM

Acadia stepped back as he took the vase, her face not hiding the astonishment as the vase changed in the bag. “No need to apologize, Mado. I don’t know what came over me. Suddenly all thoughts went out the window except touching it.” She crossed her arms to keep them from reaching out. “My mind was screaming in the back to stop. But for some reason…” she stopped and shook her head, dropping her hands to the side. “Ok, so let’s get back to the ship and see how the other team faired.”

“This item is likely cursed in someway,” replied Mado.

She turned to follow him, but her eyes darted around making sure nothing else ‘caught her eye’ on the way out.

A small hexagon stone caught Acadia’s eye. It had animal painted on it, specifically what looked like a sheep.

GM

Thankfully still in a right frame of mind, Acadia pulled out the special tricorder and aimed it towards the small stone as she walked towards it. “Ummmm .. Mado?” The question was simply but full of anxiety and worry as she glanced at him then back at the stone.

The special tricorder indicated it was an artifact, but registered to be inactive. “Hmm. This should be back at headquarters,” remarked Mado. Using his purple gloves, he grabbed the stone object and put it in a new silver bag. It sparked like the previous object but the sparks were much more subtle. “This bag should contain its effects. Good eye, Lieutenant.”

Mado brought out a small object, and placed on the ground. It grew to a large carpet bag. He placed the two bags inside the carpet bag, which seemly made it disappear, and then closed the bag. The bag shrunk back to its original size, and he proceeded to pocket the bag as if it was completely normal.

“Let’s go find the Captain, Lieutenant. I believe we found what we came for, though we probably should have the ship scan again… however, I might hazard a guess that subspace transmissions might be monitored here, so it might be best to contact the ship out of the area.”
