The quarters that Fihnrilkk’Hob”ledn-ardol were shared with Lt. Mado. It was one of the 8 senior officer quarters. Fortunately, Mado seemed to have very little – either that, Fin knew that the Warehouse had means of spatial storage due to the nature of the artifacts.

Fin had turned around to do something and felt the presence of another person. The only person she knew who could make her feel this way was Admiral Irene Frederic. “I see you have made it to the Wolverine without any issues, Lieutenant,” said the Admiral. Whether she was here or in an isomorphic projection wasn’t clear – you could never tell and before you could ever ask, she’d disappear.

There was nothing wrong with her reflexes. Fin spun around before the woman finished speaking, taking a stance to deliver a lethal blow before her brain caught up and told her who it was. “I hate it when you do that!” she exclaimed.

“As does every agent, Lieutenant,” replied Admiral Frederic.

Recovering, she stood up straight and relaxed. “What can I do for you Admiral?”

“Your principle partner will be Lieutenant Andreas Mado from now on. As you are aware, most agents are assigned in pairs… Mr. Mado… however, was deep undercover and did not have that option until now. Since the Wolverine shall be more closely involved with our operations, your job will be to work with Mr. Mado on tagging, bagging and recovering objects as well as finding out who is trying to kill the Captain. You should be aware the Infinite Improbably Drive has been fused to the ship, and its inventor, Lieutenant Ford Prefect, is trying to figure out how to get it unfused. As you are aware, the drive is not exactly our jurisdiction, but still requires a careful and watchful eye. Any objects you collect, if you need to return to base, contact me for authorization. Your department’s standard issue carpet bag should have all the necessary things you need, but the Wolverine will require further pick up supplies to handle the larger unusual objects – it has been requisitioned and is ready for pick up. The senior staff has been told generally about what the objects are but it is still considered highly classified. Any questions?” said Admiral Frederic.

Fin’s expression was not a happy one. “This isn’t my usual line of work, Admiral. I know I’ve assisted on a few of these ‘collections’, but it isn’t really what I trained for. Why was I chosen for this position and why didn’t anyone give me all the facts before I arrived?” The part about someone wanting to murder the CO was a new piece to the puzzle.

OOC: I’m all for introducing new things, but Fin has had the same body for several years. It is the same one she had when she and Jason worked together about six years ago. You also refer to a ‘Cam h’lan’ problem’ which I know nothing about and will need information on. Cam h’lan people are long lived naturally, unless they ruin their body—which Zef has done a couple of times in her line of work. Between humanoid ‘vessels’ she has had to survive in other biological bodies like animals, birds and bugs. So, you need to change a few things in your post to something I can work with, please. OOC: Voiding my previous post… In line to your previous statement saying you assisted collections, it’s SOP for Frederic to invite someone before they go off collecting artifacts.

The collections choose you, not the other way around,” replied Admiral Frederic, “I am only the medium that vocalizes those decisions. And you’ve been in Starfleet Intelligence long enough to know that operating on limited information is part of the job. Whether you like it or not, you are part of my division, simply because you assisted in those ‘collections’ – the time for you to walk away has long past. I offered you the choice – an invitation to endless wonder, and you accepted. Of course, you are more than welcome to leave your invitation, but you’d have to be transferred, and I can not make any promises you will be assigned as a department head somewhere. The Admiralty wanted someone to keep an eye on the Wolverine, and you happen to be it. It just so happens that the ‘facility’ and I also need to keep an eye on the Wolverine.”

Fin grimaced at the image. “That sounds like a threat wrapped in pretty paper, Admiral.” She wasn’t pleased about the way her assignment had been handled. If they’d been honest with her, she probably would have taken the job anyway, rather than the alternative, but the ‘Admiralty’ hadn’t seen fit to give her the chance. Fine. She was here now and would make the best of it.

Admiral Frederic heaved a heavy sigh. “Read between the lines Lieutenant, but I only meant that ships are limited, and the chances for another Department Head opening is rare, and even rarer to be a Chief Intelligence Officer. Most CIOs are placed on ships for an external reason.”

“The next time you offer me a job, there’d better be a lot more transparency and disclosure. I don’t like being tricked, and for someone who finds trust difficult in the best of circumstances—you’ve lowered your odds of ever having it again.”

“You are more than welcome to walk away from this assignment, but the Asimov requires more training to be more familiar with this type of work. You are highly capable,” replied Frederic.

Fin turned partially away from the hologram. “Since I’m already here, I’ll do my best, like always. Just remember, I’m very good at disappearing—anytime and anywhere. So I wouldn’t push your luck too much farther.”

“Without stating the obvious, you do know what the ‘facility’s main mission statement is,’ do you not? You say you can disappear, but we do have methods that are not accessible to other people,” said Frederic.
