She moved over to stand on the other side of Hanlon. If she wasn’t going to be the holder of the ‘thing’ they were dealing with, she was at least going to be sure it behaved.

Sural would have shrugged had he that compulsion. Instead he mentally shrugged. “Commander, the mind meld traditionally is not something that Vulcans .. relish doing.” Indeed to have ‘emotions’ invading their psyche when their lifelong training told them to avoid such influence created a philosophical tension that caused many a Vulcan to simply not care to go there.

His mind ‘flashed’ back to when he was younger.
“Meld me! Meld me!” his sister insisted.
Younger Sural, who had recently been instructed in the technique as all Vulcans were, looked at her with practiced patience. “It is not appropriate to simply ‘meld’ one.” That was what he had been taught.
“Oh come on Sural. You need the practice. Do me. Who better than your sister?” She leaned in and looked at the door. “It’s only logical to become competent at it. And if you are going to try it it is only logical to do it with your sister. I won’t tell.”
Were he going to sigh he would have. “T’ral, the use of logic as a currency of manipulation is not appropriate.”
“Oh sure,” she said, crossing her arms. “It’s ‘logical’ when you have a point to make but not ‘appropriate’ when you don’t want to accept it.”
It was ever a point of some frustration when T’ral did that. And he did want to try it. “Very well,” he said, still not convinced he wanted to be in his ‘sister’s’ head. But who better?

“However,” he continued. “I have had a certain amount of practice at it and do not find it as much an issue as Vulcans may promote it to be.”

The XO moved back a bit to allow Sural room to perform his psychic operation. “If you feel things going south, you pull out immediately! Got it?”

Odinson (XO)

Sural gave a brief nod; these kinds of responses were .. expected by a human more so than a Vulcan. He was, however, waiting for Hanlon to give permission for this to happen. He had heard that expression before by humans and each time was perplexed by it. What terrible thing happened in the Southern portion of the .. city, country, planet, that this kind of universal expression proliferated? It must be, he thought, lost in myth, for not one could logically explain it when asked.
- Sural

The XO spoke to Hanlon. “Lt., Mr. Sural would like to perform a mind meld with you. It’s somewhat akin to reading your mind. He can search for answers you may not be aware of in your subconscious mind. He can also help you with things you may have blocked off, either intentionally, or unintentionally. It should be harmless, but we’d like to have your permission before going ahead.”

Odinson (XO)

Sural was patient. Indeed, were he to suggest an emotional response it would have been that of relief at the entity not having intervened in any conversation or situation or possessing anyone else. Yet. Instead, as he had no emotional response to this, his mind was mentally counting the number of minutes since the last such ‘encounter’.

Pretha stood by in silence. She understood why D’Vash had stopped her. But it didn’t mean she liked it. She wondered if this entity would prove to be a great ally once all was said and done. For some reason, she hoped that with all her being. She was tired of all the enemies they had out there.

D’vash waited patiently for Hanlon’s reply. While doing so, he contacted the bridge. =^=Bridge, what’s our ETA to the planet?=^=

Odinson (XO)

Sural considered that the ETA was not going to be that soon. As fast as they were they were not that fast unless the world was on their doorstep. Probability was that the Commander was growing in impatience and he needed a frame to be placed around a situation in order to bring it into greater control - at least psychologically. In the interim, he asked Pretha, “Have you had previous experience with telepathic entities such as this one?” It was a bold thing for her to suggest it speaking through her.
- Sural

D’vash looked at Sural and nodded. He doubted Pretha had any kind of experience such as Sural’s comment suggested, even though she was an experienced security officer. That’s why he forbade her to take part in it. If this entity took control of the COs, there was no telling what havoc it could cause. She had no way to fight it off, if it decided it didn’t want to let go of her.

Sural at least had some Vulcan training in the arts of the mind. He was a much better candidate for the communication attempt.

Odinson (XO)

Pretha reluctantly shook her head. “No… but I had a repoir with it earlier. I just thought… well if it used me, we could keep it confined to one body and keep the ‘jumping’ from being prevalent. That’s what my thinking was. My codes and such could easily have been locked off before hand if needs be. But I was just thinking to get it ‘with’ us and contained.” She looked at him and hoped it didn’t sound as ridiculous as it sounded to her once it was spoken.

Sural processed that. It seemed to him that there was precious little they could do at the moment to ‘contain’ it apart from isolating it in a being and casting it out into space as it apparently was, though by all indications that could as easily have been a survival mechanism of the entity in the case of Hanlon’s vessel being destroyed. Without potential hosts it would be limited. At the moment the entity was shifting from being to being as it desired. Whether it even needed a being - a vessel looked to be as good a host - was another question.

“Admirable,” he replied. Perhaps foolish in nature given the proclivity of the entity, though admirable to want to try. “Over time it has been evident that many such non corporeal beings were able to be limited in their hosts, some by their own willingness.” Regarding this one it was a matter of determining just ‘how’ that might be. At the moment they knew very little about it that anything was simple conjecture.
