After leaving the Counselor’s office, Shirazi returned to the bridge and sat down next to Odinson. “I just had a very odd encounter with our new counselor.” Her brows were drawn together, giving her a thoughtful look.

D’vash turned and looked sidelong at Shirazi. “And? What do you think of him? I had an irresistible urge to throw a mouse into the room just to see what would happen,” he said with a mischievous grin.

Odinson (XO)

The Captain laughed. “Don’t you dare!” But it was an entertaining thought. “As you know, I went for my evaluation. I was thinking it was just a formality, you know, to check the appropriate boxes in my file. Not so.”

She looked at him with raised brows, inviting him to inquire how she had been wrong.

“He told me to come back when I wasn’t in a hurry. The odd thing is, that I wasn’t in a hurry.” She pulled in one corner of her bottom lip as she thought. “Do you suppose it was some kind of power play?”

“Counselors are the worst kind of people to play poker against, Captain,” D’vash began. “They are trained to read people, to notice their tells and such. On Earth, many domesticated species of animal, dogs and cats, for instance, have an almost a 6th sense to ascertain someone’s intentions. Perhaps that is also true of Lt. Sathut. And you, sir, may have given off an unintentional sense of needing to be somewhere else.”

“Of course, that’s the Intel operative in me speaking. Maybe he was simply testing you to see how you handle confrontation?” The XO grinned again as his gaze returned to the forward view screen.

Odinson (XO)

“I’d rather just keep my distance from any professional counseling, but I suppose I’ll have to see him eventually.” Shirazi didn’t like the thought that Sathut might be testing his power with her so soon. She also didn’t like being dismissed—which is what the counselor had done. It was something she wasn’t used to, especially on her own ship and she was curious as to how much it actually bothered her.

“So you have already had your evaluation? What was your take on the Raka?”

—Thorne, CO

“Unlike yours, Captain, my meeting with him was quite pleasant. He was aware of things I couldn’t discuss regarding my past, nor did he try to push any of those topics. I think the crew will warm up to him, at least those that don’t suffer from Ailurophobia.”

The XO half turned toward Shirazi and said with a smirk, “You don’t think you may subconsciously have an aversion to cats, do you. That would be quite the catch-22–not being able to seek out professional help because that person is the cause of your fears?”

Odinson (XO)

“Oh, I hardly think so. I was quite pleased to meet him, actually, and the intake eval went very well.” She was quiet for a moment while she tossed the who aversion idea over in her mind. “No, no, I’m sure I’m fine with cats…I mean, Raka.” Still, it was something to keep in mind if things continued to go downhill with their interactions.

—Thorne, XO

D’vash leaned over and lowered his voice, so only the two of them could hear. “Maybe, Shirazi, you did something that made you appear in a hurry? Subtle things like . . . looking at the door, or a clock, constantly shifting in your seat. Little things that you weren’t even aware of”

He lowered his voice even further. “Maybe next time, put a ‘do not disturb’ sigh on the door. I’m sure you have one of those handy for when Dr. Harding shows up at your door. . .to give you a bi-weekly physical, of course.”

Her eyes widened, the blue glasses doing a lot to hide the fact of her shock at hearing D’Vash’s personal observation about Collin.

Clearing his throat as he sat back up, the XO cleared his throat and slid as far away from her as he could while remaining in his seat.

Odinson (XO)

There was a pregnant pause before she answered. “Hmmm, well thank you for your input, Exec. I’ll take it under consideration.”

—Thorne, CO

Returning to the correct position once again, D’vash continued to grin while ribbing the captain. “You have been very discreet, Shirazi, but observation is one of the the first things you’re taught in Intel school. I’ve gotten pretty good at it over the years.”

“I’m not the kind to gossip, but there are a number of relationship issues taking place on this ship, that you probably aren’t aware of. It’s bound to happen with a crew this size. While I’ve looked further into most of these relationships, as there seems to be nothing that will jeopardize the ship or crews efficiency, I don’t believe there is a need to concern yourself with any of it. If issues do arise, my first option is to bring it to the the attention of Lt. Sathut and let him deal with it.”

Odinson (XO)

OOC: I have moved the post by Oberon to a Quarters thread. Thorne would have been in bed in the wee hours of the morning, so it makes more sense, so ignore that it was here. Thanks.

=^= Sural to bridge. We have had information that there was unauthorized use of the transporters, or at least a transporter employed. I have authorized the transporters to be locked down to all but department head or command staff. We are investigating the transporter and other access data at this time. Do you have any further orders? =^=
