Compared to the medic’s notes and patient charts, Meinok seemed to be attempting to cure their illness. Though some notes indicated that they did not fall ill until oddly late in the journey.

Sural was inspecting the documents. There was a pattern forming in his mind that, were he a suspicious sort, would land squarely in the camp of wondering if the infections were placed and then tried to cure them. “Commander I think …” he began when the red alert blared.

The ship went to red alert. =Tal’Shiar vessel detected. Brace for impact.= the disembodied voice of the computer said.

They were not defended at all. An attack would be useless on this freighter. Nothing could be gained by attacking it. Were the Romulans to wish to gain advantage they would have beamed them aboard and had greater bargaining power. “.. that we should return to the Olympic.”

=/\= Aye sir!=/\= came the voice of the transporter chief. It wasn’t long before they were back in Transporter Room 1.

It did not take long before they were back. Seconds really. Idly Sural wondered whether, in a transporter beam, did the consciousness remain in a form of timelessness? Disembodied, what remained of the katra? That was something Sural had often pondered, however, had not researched. Sometimes the Vulcan tradition and beliefs came up against things that required .. attention. As Vulcans had been utilizing tranporters for a very long time and this had not been a focus - yet - Sural was 58% certain that it was acceptable. For him, the jury was still out.

“Orders, Commander?” Sural asked as he stepped down. Was it bridge or engineering for him?

The transporter chief spoke up. “Sirs… we have a problem. Security alert. The bridge is under direct threat. Turbolift is locked out. I can site to site you into the Captain’s ready room, or right onto the bridge. We’re not actually at red alert yet, but security notified all stations not to attempt to contact the bridge.”

That may settle it for him, Sural thought. After a moment he remembered that Reno was on the bridge. “Do we know what the nature of the threat is?” Sural inquired.

The transporter chief gulped. “Biological weapon on the bridge. That’s all I know. Based on internal sensors, it doesn’t look like it’s gone off.”
