Sathut nodded slightly to Eris. “It was a prayer to my god, Va’al. The god of dreams. I have not let go of my anscestral faith, and if it gives them comfort, I see no reason to deny the faith of these young ones,” he explained. “It is not Federation Culture. But it is my personal culture. The culture of my people. I would enjoy the opportunity for an exchange of knowledge regarding our cultures…”“Most of us started praying to the Preservers at night. A little comfort from the thought that someone… larger might offer a little help. Maybe they did…” the young man was lost in thought for a moment. “I don’t think the Federation and the Empire, before that is, are that different. That’s why they hated each other so much. Who wants to stare into a mirror?”
“Your generation is the last to be born on Romulus. I do hope that you will be able to find yourself a safe new planetary home. And create a new name for yourselves.”
Sathut, CNS
Eris nodded. “Maybe one day the people of the Federation won’t associate all the Rihanssu with the Tal’Shiar. I like to call us by our traditional name.” Eris had been speaking Federation standard and just slipped in the Romulan word. “There are kids here who don’t remember ch’Rihan-“ Eris shook his head and translated. “Romulus at all. Maybe we can work with our Vulcan cousins. Our father, Preservers watch over him, was working towards reunification before Romulus was destroyed.” he looked at Hirael, leaned over, and whispered something. They both looked comforted when he leaned back.“You said something about an exchange of knowledge? I’m guessing that means you have questions. Life on Romulus and such. Go on.” Eris looked almost amused at being a past tense tour guide to Romulan culture.

Pretha had remained quietly on the outskirts of things and was about to turn to leave when the security call came in. =^=Oberon here. I’ll look into it.=^=
=^= Thanks Chief =^= came the reply.
- Reno, EngShe then glanced at her padd to see what was being requested and from which station. Once she knew the location, she leaned back against the wall and watched to see what was happening.

((Lost track of where I was supposed to be… Figured here, then head to Captain to report and take over escort duty… Lemme know if I was supposed to be elsewhere please lol))The order was the 15th to come from cargo bay replicator 2. No one looked particularly out of place in that area. Only one Romulan seemed to be behaving oddly. He never removed the top from his plate of dinner. Though he was absorbed in reading something.
-Matrix
Sathut nodded. “What is the structure of your families, in general?” He asked, tilting his head slightly.
Sathut, CNS
Ooc: i had more but accidentally refreshed and don’t remember what i had“Well, families tend to be larger than I think most Federation families. Usually three or more children. Our mothers care for us and our fathers make our life choices. School on Romulus was so strict though, that parents didn’t usually really have to worry about discipline.”

Pretha headed for the solo man. She was smiling and greeting everyone as she passed. Her pause at his location was meant to look purely like an afterthought.
Some smiled and greeted her, some treated her with suspicion. No one seemed to suspect her true mission.
“Everything ok? If you aren’t partial to spaghetti, I’m happy to get you something else. I think we can even take into your own computers if there’s something specific you wish.” She reached down in politeness, offering to take the tray of what she perceived was uneaten food, at least to him. In her own mind, she wondered if he was hoarding more than pasta.
Pretha
CoSThe man looked up. As with Vulcans, guessing a Romulan’s age got more difficult with time. This one was in early middle age. He looked up from his reading. “Quite the opposite. It was delicious. Living in the Federation may have more yet to offer.” He smiled charmingly. “I’m just holding onto my plate in case my son wakes up hungry.” He nodded back to a boy sleeping on two crates lined up as a makeshift bed.

Sathut tilted his head slightly. “Schooling always tends to be an interesting subject, but my thoughts push me towards another question. When I prayed, the children prayed as well. My question is regarding that. How much of your race’s religions are you knowledgeable about? How much can you tell me? Beginning, what are the common religions? Is your race more agnostic and non-religious, or is there still a strong core pf believers?”
Sathut, CNS
“There’s not so much a universal religion. But some houses worship the Elements. Some the Preservers. Some households don’t care. It just depends on older traditions.”

Security rushed in. “Lena Khev! They need you in sickbay.” The children’s caretaker stood and walked to Sathut first. “Take good care of them. They trust you.” Then she left with the NE in a hurry.
-Matrix
Sathut nodded solemnly. “It is my duty,” he spoke to Lena. He looked to the children, then turned to Eris. “What are your beliefs? I understand if you are uncomfortable sharing. In response, do you have any questions for me?”
Sathut, CNS
“We were raised believing in the Preservers. Sometimes all this… shakes my faith. But we’re here. With food. And a clean place to sleep. Is everyone as scared of us as they look? I know from history classes what happened between The Empire and The Federation. But that doesn’t mean all the Rihannsu are murderers.” He looked sullen and contemplative.
-Matrix
“My race is most certainly unafraid of you. It is very difficult to gain a reputation that causes a Raka to be frightened of another society. We judge each individual on their personal merits, and insofar as I have seen, you as an individual have done nothing to earn my fear. As a result, I do not fear you. I can tell that the humans do not trust you. Fear is a strong word. Some may fear you, but I am of the impression that the main emotions that are present are ones of stress and distrust. For the humans, you must earn trust. It is different from the way I was taught to think.”
Sathut, CNS
Eris thought for a moment. “I wouldn’t ask them to trust every Romulan. But walking around with weapons, like we’re an active threat… what do they want?” He gestured to the group of refugees. “We’re not exactly a warfaring bunch.”
-Matrix
“I cannot say… I really do not know,” Sathut replied. His ears fell back and down, his brow creasing. “I apologize for the attitudes of my fellow Starfleet Officers,” he said remorsefully.
Sathut, CNS
“The humans’ mistrust is not your fault. I’m worried about the little ones. I think a lot of us who remember the old Romulus are. I don’t want them to grow up thinking their Rihannsu blood is wrong.”
“My father used to tell me ‘Challenge makes great men.’ It’s an old proverb. Hopefully that’s all that will happen. For now, I’ll just let the kids enjoy having a clean place to sleep.”
“I have to know. If we go to earth, or some world like it, all of this: food, a place to stay, we can have that. Right? I can work.” He was asking the Raka to make a rather large promise, but he seemed concerned that they had come all this way to be feared and end up back where they started.
-Matrix
“I will fight to ensure you are treated well. You and all your kind who need a home. If the main federation worlds will not accept you… I may be able to get a word into my government to push Earth and the others, or find a suitable colony for you to join. I may not be their family, but I feel strongly about not letting children grow up homeless and on the run as you have been. I cannot speak on behalf of the Federation, but I can speak on my own behalf. I will not let you be abandoned.” Sathut spoke, getting more worked up than he normally did, his tail lashing back and forth agitatedly.
Sathut, CNS
“Half of them, their mothers died in cage birth, they think that’s normal. I guess I should explain, cage birth is what we call it when the conditions get to a mother, but her will made her baby survive. Probably happening upstairs right now. Maybe your medicine can save her. We never got a chance to try that.”
“Enough about the New Empire. Those replicators. Are they common outside of starships? We grew up in a home without them. Not because we were poor. We owned a restaurant. We all knew how to cook.”
-Matrix
Sathut dipped his head sadly to hear about this ‘cage birth’ that the young Romulan spoke of. He perked up a little more at the question about replicators. “In some places and on some worlds. Where I grew up, they were used for the creation of material objects, but all of our food was grown naturally. In some communities on Earth, all the food is replicated. It varies.”
Sathut, CNS
“It was much the same at home. It’s funny to me how two such large societies can hate each other so much. But be so similar. In school, the Federation was blamed for every time we came into conflict. And yet… we can have a completely civil conversation.”
