D’vash grinned at the counselor’s reaction. “Yes, Kool-aid. A childhood vice I’ve never been able to give up.”

He accepted the cup and adjusted himself to a comfortable position. “How am I feeling?” he repeated the question.

“Actually, I’m feeling quite satisfied, Counselor. We were able to rescue the survivors from Forester’s World, with minimal injuries. Those that were injured, our crack medical staff were able to patch up effectively. Civilians on the ship volunteered to help with the children until they could be reunited with their families, and as of right now, it seems everyone will live happily ever after. All in a days work, right?”

“Hmm, I’ll have to check the nutritional values for this kool-aid,” Sathut reflected. “We Raka have a rather sensitive stomach, so we mush monitor our intake carefully,” he admitted with a small sigh.

“I’ll admit, it’s not the most nutritional drink in the universe, but I’don’t believe it’s as bad as coffee. The drink of choice for many humans.”

He listened to the XO’s words, then spoke again. “May I call you D’Vash, Commander?” he asked, then continued. “Why did you join Starfleet?”

“In informal, private settings, such as this, I would prefer D’vash,” the XO replied. “As far as ‘joining’ Starfleet? I think it was more a matter of recruitment.”

D’vash adjusted himself slightly as he began the explanation. “My father was an Orion pirate, my mother human. During the time they were together, she was a very fast learner of Orion society, culture, values, lifestyles, politics, etc. . .When my father dies, mother and I made it back to Earth where she raised and relayed all that knowledge to me. When I was in school, I wrote a paper, titled “The Misunderstood Pirates of Orion.”

“Mt teacher considered it a bunch of hogwash, said I didn’t do any research, and everything was made up. . . .but, something about that paper sent up a red flag. Next thing I know, Starfleet Intelligence is at my door asking me about this information that was not public knowledge. Told my mother that this information would be invaluable to Intel. They said they would see to it that I got into the Academy and would be fast tracked into the Intelligence Department. Spent my whole career in Intel until I was assigned as the XO here on the Olympic.”

“So again, it was more recruitment than joining.”

Sathut nodded slightly, smiling. “Well, that certainly is quite the story. Now I understand the lot on your file I’m not authorized to read,” he commentted.

“Don’t feel bad, there are some things even the Captain’s clearance doesn’t allow her to see.”

“Well, how do you feel about being in starfleett? do you enjoy it?” he asked.

“I feel like I was destined to be in Starfleet, or at least in space, serving on some kind of ship. Starfleet seemed like the most logical way to get there,” D’Vash replied.

“What about you, Counselor? There aren’t many Raka in Starfleet. What drove you to get here?”

Odinson (CO)

“A desire to learn and to help others,” Sathut said with a small smile. “I have always had a passion for helping others through their emotional troubles,” he reflected. “Some Starfleet members tend to be a little more… adverse to my presence and my mission, unfortunately,” he sighed lightly, thinking of a few troublesome encounters he had already had in this office.

“Personally, Lt., I think the role of a counselor on Starfleet ship’s was an ingenious idea. Having a mental health expert/department on starships is crucial tp both the crew and civilians. Are there members of the crew that you are having a difficult time getting to come in for appointments. Give their names, and I will make sure they sign up. I’ll make sure they are cooperative.”
