Sural did not find the holodeck ‘entertaining’. Entertainment, he had come to realize, was something that Terrans and other races indicated they required for various reasons. Most of which took up valuable time. He had ever been humored, if humor was something he could substantively define - more like pondering the irony - of the meaning of the Terran word for entertainment. It originated from an old Terran language that, roughly, meant ‘prevent or barr’ from ‘entering’. Thus entertainment was an acceptable form of action in which they were prevented from entering into their appropriate destiny. Or so Sural had concluded. When he had posed this suggestion to his podmates at the Academy many years ago, one had replied in his Texan drawl, “Surrie, there is an old earth proverb y’all should take to heart. All work and no play makes a Vulcan a dull boy. Or something like that.”

=^= Ensign Pierce, if you are available, would you please attend me in Holodeck 2? =^= Some might suggest that what Sural was considering was entertainment. Sural, of course, would logically consider it to be ‘team building’.

=^= Of course, Lt. Sural! =^= Oliver nearly shouted as he banged his head against the bottom of the shuttle he was finishing up working under. After his vision came back into focus he continued, =^= I’ll be there right away… =^= He did have a couple more things to do, but the phrase ‘Attend me’ sounded like an order.

Oliver quickly made his way to Holodeck 2, his uniform still covered in grease and not tided up at all. He entered, trying to look as natural as possible, which really just made him look nervous. “What, uh, what can I help you with, sir?”

Sural’s back was to Oliver when he entered, apparently standing there staring into the grid like form of an inactive holodeck. Some seconds passed before he turned slowly to observe the ensign. The problem with a Vulcan is their own strength in a sense - that of a consummate poker face. However, at the same time, if he could be considered to look a touch uncomfortable this was the time. “Mr Pierce, thank you for joining me. I was recently reminded of a time in the Academy where I was in a discussion around ‘fun’.” He appeared to have some trouble with that word. “At the same time I would like to get to know you more. I have researched holodeck patterns of different crews and my findings are that 72% of the time any given person or group will gravitate toward a single program. A favourite as it were. Indeed in my own example, my percentage is 81.6% in activating the same program.”

“I would like, if it is permissible to you, to share your .. favorite. In turn it would please me if you would share mine with me at another time. “
