The XO sat down in the center seat and began punching in a command to the console. “If my override commands don’t override things, then. . . . ” He offered Sural a look that implied “We’re screwed”.

Odinson (XO)

Beid walked onto the bridge and looked around. “What is going on? All the systems are acting very strange.”

Beid, CSO

“Something has affected our computer and altered its programming. That, or a highly classified subroutine has engaged and initiated a security lockdown. I presume that there is another factor involved as we have slowed our velocity and our outside defenses are not accessible,” he explained to Beid. “The computer responds to questions, however if it feels that one is prying it threatens punitive measures against you. You do not have any such experimental programs in your lab do you, Lt?” Sural asked, which, coming across dry as a Vulcan, might have one wonder if that was a joke or an inquiry.

Beid simply looked at Sural and appeared in deep thought for a moment. “No. Nothing that would perform like this. How can I help?”

  • Sural

OOC: Always forget something …

Sural’s PaDD beeped. It was another message from Crawford. He studied it then reported. “Sir, I’ve been sent a report of a ship wide power drain. It is small and would likely not be noticed if we weren’t looking for something, but there is a greater drain in the storage areas off the deflector dish, decks 31 and 32.” He handed the PaDD to the XO.

Beid, CSO

“I’m going to take a shot in the dark here and say that whatever has taken control of the computer is hooked into the system down there. And whatever ‘It” is is going need a lot of power to take over our sophisticated computer system.”

The XO rubbed his chin and thought for a moment. “You up for a trip down to those decks, Sural?”

“Of course, sir. And, if I may add, Ensign Pierce may be a useful addition to this group. He has certain .. hands on skills .. that would complement my own which lean more to the computerized side. I will collect him along the way.”

D’vash nodded. Your call, Sural. Take whoever you need to get this figured out.”

Turning to the security guards by the lift, D’vash ordered, “You two, accompany Lt. Sural down to deck 31 & 32 to check out that drain. I suggest stopping by sickbay to inform Lt. Oberon that that is where you’re headed. Let’s try to avoid ships comms in case someone is listening in.”

Looking back to Sural, he addressed the CSO once again. “Let me know what you find, Sural. Again, use the PAdd to communicate instead of internal ship comms.”

Odinson (XO)

“We will be .. discrete, sir,” Sural said, sending a message to Engineering to NE Crawford to let Ensign Pierce know they were coming for him and to prepare a ‘tool kit’.
With that Sural dipped his head and departed for Engineering ..

After watch the CE and the security guards exit, the XO returned his attention to the console at his side and continued inputting his override access codes. . . . .

Odinson (XO)

Beid looked at the Xo and said “Sir, we understand the priority is getting access to the computer. But from what I know of computer programming, a lock-out of this magnitude would have to have been done by someone on-board. Correct?”

Beid, CSO

All codes used by the XO would return an “ACCESS DENIED” screen.

-GM

“That it would, Mr. Beid,” the XO replied.

D’vash’s expression didn’t change, though frustrated, he was. He decided to try a different tactic. “Computer, I know it was NOT Captain Thorne or Security Chief Oberon that initiated the Code Black. Besides myself, there is no other ship’s personnel with clearance high enough to issue that order. So who did, and from where?”

=^= Sural to bridge. Unable to achieve direct access to the deflector dish deck. The message stated ‘Code Black’. We are currently on Deck 27. =^=

Further confirmation that the ship had been messed with. “Computer, the ship is acting in an anomalous way and not at all at optimum efficiency. A power drain has been detected in Decks 31 and 32. Would it not be prudent or appropriate to allow the chief engineer and his team access to this area to determine the issue?”

Odinson (XO)

Pretha came to the bridge as Odinson was speaking to the computer. She remained silent but frowned in concern. She stepped to the side and then moved to the security station and looked over the shoulder of the occupant of the station’s seat. He was a good NE, but she doubted even ‘he’ was ready for what was happening on the ship. She nodded in reassurance to him that he didn’t have to go, leaned on the console and watched the XO. He was safe, which made her relax a bit, but then the security chief in her rose and she wondered just ‘how bad’ things really were.

Though most people wouldn’t notice it, Pretha, having gotten closer to the XO, would see the annoyance and frustration in his face.

He spun in the chair to face Pretha. “Lt. Oberon, I am glad you’re here. Along with everything else that’s happening, the ship in under a ‘Condition Black’. It’s not know who or what issued this condition. Sural discovered a power drain coming from near the deflector shield. He’s down near deck 31/32 trying to get into that area now. The computer has denied him access. All of my access to command has been denied. Even my high Intel clearance isn’t getting me in. Apparently only Captain Thorne and Chief of Security Oberon will get access. So,. . . . you’re turn to try.”

Odinson (XO)

Pretha wanted to reach out and reassure Odinson, but she didn’t flinch. “Yes, sir,” she responded and moved to the security console. But just as her fingers were about to dance over the miniscule pads, she stopped.

Her brows narrowed slightly as she frowned and turned to survey the bridge. Instead of her password going in there, where it was expected, she moved to stand by the Command Chair. Tapping out the prerequisite combination, she then lifted her chin and spoke out loud. But her voice would surprise those listening. Instead of the confident, sure of herself Security Chief, she sounded like a lost soul. Someone left alone and unsure what to do next.

“Ummmm… Computer? Command override for, umm, Oberon, Pretha… Uhh… Seven, echo, bravo…uhhh… Kilo!” The last word spoken with the confidence if someone remembering something at the last second. As she spoke to the faceless computer, her chin had been lifted, her eyes moving from to side as if searching the ceiling for some unknown answer. When she finished she turned to D’Vash to see his reaction as she awaited the computer’s response.

The XO looked at her with a raised eyebrow. He wondered if she was alright? For a moment, Pretha seemed unsure of herself. Unless, she was trying to play a game with the computer.
