A nerve toxin, Collin presumed. It was one of the hardest offensives to counteract in the human body. The enzymes that acted as neurotransmitters in the patient’s body were breaking down, preventing his nervous system from functioning properly. Collin pulled his medkit over his head and lay it down on the ground, popping the case open. Quickly he shoved a vial of atropine into a hypospray and delivered a dose.

A short time later Winston rounded the corner to peek into Gully’s quarters. He saw the man laying on the deck then scratched at his neck. The one who should have been dead and been beamed into space and who is now laying on the deck - maybe dead again? - was mind boggling. He could think of a dozen conspiracy tales related to this and none were good. Taking a breath he turned back and entered the cabin.

“Sir,” he asked the XO. “The computer threatened the Chief inquiring about the security level that was enforced. It said that only the captain and security chief could override any of the lockdowns that was in place. Why not you?” He took a nervous breath. “The Chief has gone to the bridge to see if he could find out more. It wasn’t answering any of his hails.”

“Why not me is a very good question, ensign,” D’vash stated. “Plus the fact that Sural was threatened, leads one to believe that WE, the crew, are no longer in control of all aspects of the ship.”

Winston gave D’vash a knowing look that in some circles would suggest ‘No sushi Sherlock’, or some other variation of the term. “Sural has had the engineering group arm themselves. Without other knowledge of what was going on on the ship we didn’t know what to prepare for. Computer wise we’re pretty limited.”

Seeing Pretha he said, “Ma’am, you called for engineering?” For the life of him he couldnt’ see anything that needed an engineer unless Gully was an android robot that needed a tune up.

Pretha nodded to the wall. “Get on those consoles. I want to know every transmission, log and beam in and out of this room.” She glanced at Odinson. Her silent look spoke volumes. The computer was acting weird, and not just in the all ship hail. She nodded slightly to him and managed a smile that she hoped he would read as supportive and personal. “You need to see to the CO. Take an escort and go to the bridge. I’ve got this.” She nodded to Gully as he was being worked on by Medical.

The XO looked up at the COS as she spoke. He offered her a nod in acceptance.

She dared to reach out to touch her fingertips to the back of his hand before dropping them again. “You need to be on the bridge.” She then silently mouthed ‘be careful… please’ as she smiled once more just for his view.

D’vash gave her a quick wink and just the briefest of smiles as he left for the bridge.

Winston looked over at the console. In the past it would be a no brainer. Computers were always better company than people to him, but now, after what happened in engineering it was more the enemy. He sat at the chair and looked at it. Taking a breath he said, “Right, lets see ..”

He tapped at the console entering the commands for his mail and voice transmissions. Inside he had a sinking feeling that he was going to be locked out of it under the computer’s new mind, but, maybe, if he was just tapping at it that it would be not unlike Gully bringing up his mail. Pretty benign. As for the transporter logs, he was certain that that would be a fail. While waiting for anything to come up on the screen he turned to Pretha. “Lt, we were not able to do a routine low level diagnostic in engineering under this condition black. But we did hear that the only people able to get past the lockdowns was the captain and security chief. You might be able to get the computer to cough up the transport logs.”

D’vash stopped in the open doorway and turned back to face Winston. “Condition Black?!? That’s for. . . . ” The XO’s voice trailed off as the doors closed behind him.

Odinson (XO)

Gulley started shaking slightly, any tricorders would read an adrenal surge causing cardiac arrhythmia. The. Computer would likewise give no answers. Any attempts to access anything more than basic commands being blocked with clearance BLACK.

Winston’s PaDD beeped and he peeked at it. “Oh, my,” he said, and turned to the security chief again. Moving over, he said, “Lt, I have a message from engineering. They say that systems are highly limited, power levels are low, shields are only at navigational level, but there is a power spike in the lower levels of the ship.” He showed her the content of the message.

“Cardio stimulators,” he ordered, his voice tense but controlled, and the nurse complied. He applied them to “Gully’s” chest and delivered a jolt.

“I need to get this man to Sickbay,” he said, even as he despaired about the efficacy of treatment there. “And everyone needs to get out of this room. I think a nerve agent may be our culprit here, and while it could be contained to his body, we have to quarantine this area and do a complete sanitation.”

Harding, CMO

Pretha shook her head. “I don’t like the idea of the transporters. If someone waylays you, Doc, we can’t save you in there. Can we get a med stretched and contain it to sickbay? We have a clear way since everyone is supposed to be sequestered. I just don’t want to chance losing either of you.” There was serious concern in her voice. It wasn’t like she was worried about losing her favorite holo novel. This was genuine fear of losing two human beings she was in charge of keeping safe.

“We can quarantine here ourselves and follow behind. If we haven’t been hit yet, we should be relatively safe a moment more.” She waved everyone out of the room. “Everyone to sick bay, right now. No one leaves till cleared per the Doc.” She smiled at him and shook her head in confusion. Something wasn’t right here… Condition Black… Lockouts… and now the ‘only’ choice was using the transporters which had been the cause of this all to begin with. No… she wasn’t losing anyone else.

Winston sighed. He was always used to being ignored, but this was making him look very invisible. He waited patiently for the transport to fail, given the lockdowns in place and the fact that they couldn’t do much of anything.
