Indeed, Leamas had recognized the voice. But as to how…he could not even imagine. The Guardians of Kaladon were those who carried out prison sentences. Almost like a judge mixed with a bailiff. They guarded the laws of Kaladon and were careful that all obeyed them. The voice of this one, was the same one that carried out Leamas’s own sentence of exile.

He was still, and almost afraid…almost. Why would the same Guardian be here on the planet in which he had been exiled? What Guardian would volunteer to do such a thing? None that he could think of. But there was only one way to be sure.

He opened his mind in way of greeting. However in doing so, he opened up his presence to any psionic abled person. Ylana would sense the same presence that had been there with her and Archanon in her makeshift dream. Halai would sense the presence of something powerful. The emotions that came forth from Leamas were a bit of fear with a lot of anger.

And which Guardian do you think you are? he practically mentally spat, keeping the name of said Guardian closed in his mind.

The voice paused for a moment before replying, “You dare to order me traitor? I shall tell you my name, but only to ensure that you know that justice is coming for you. It will not be this day, but it will be soon. I, $#%#$%$%# promise this.” The last word was said in a language so ancient, so primal, that it forced the brain of those who listened to fill it in with what was expected. One did not need to probe a mind if they could trick it.

???

Ylana moved through the house in the direction of the presence she was familiar with, bolstering her mind carefully. She didn’t say anything and in fact approached quietly, trying to figure out what was going on.

Bump

Leamas sighed and looked to Shari. “The Guardians don’t scare me when they are not within their own jurisdiction!” he shot back, as he felt a familiar presence approaching. He grinned and turned his figure into Morin Tal…the image he bore while within Ylana Eviros’s mind on the blasted federation ship. Yes! She would recognize him either way if she dared enter the vicinity.

Leamas approached one of the walls for the briefest of moments as he probed Ylana’s mind psionically. He pushed in a way she hoped felt familiar. But he was not overly aggressive about it. After all, she would be of great use to him in times to come. Ylana would know that Leamas was here.

Instinctively, she kept her mental shields strongly up, and though it was only a gentle nudge, Leamas would feel instantly her pushing back. But it was not forceful, simply something akin to her saying no, no you won’t. Meanwhile, she was searching for intention and for what was happening around Leamas that had drawn her attetnion so clearly.

The image of Morin Tal looked this new figure in the eye, daring it to do something. “You’ll calm down now, or I’ll let everyone in here know that my people are on this planet and that they all ought to be oh so scared. Is that what you want?” he inquired, not entirely sure if this being was really a guardian still. After all, surely a Guardian of Kalidon would have had more power than he, and simply neutralized him on the spot with their non-corporeal abilities. He would give only mere seconds for the being before him to at least back off for a moment, before he decided to walk right through the wall and into the party.

Suddenly, the being shifted in shape, turning into a figure of darkness, constantly in flux. The occupants in the room could not stare at it for too long, as if they did, they would feel their sanity slowly slipping away. Even Leamas, with his mental fortitude did not have the strength to stand this being’s form for longer than a few seconds. Dark tendrils started to reach out, and a haunting laugh filled the room, “Oh you poor deluded weakling, that would just hasten your death even faster. Fear can be extremely powerful if used in the right way, and if you go ahead with your threat, I will show you the true meaning of the word.”

???

Shari’s eyes widened, at the moment, she had no control over the situation. She had two powerful beings in the room, both that she was sure could cause quite a lot of damage if provoked too much. Her mind was wondering why the new being had not simply destroyed Leamas, but there were many reasons why it had not yet. Perhaps it was toying with him, knowing full well that it could destroy him. Maybe it was too weak to act, and just ‘puffing it’s feathers’ as it were. Either way, this was not going to end well for the evening if the guests in the other room caught wind of this.

Leamas turned away, closing off his mind to whatever being this was. Clearly it was not a Guardian. Wonderful. Not to find out the true meaning of such a creature on Oed. “Fear can also be unpredictable if stirred up in the wrong being,” he said as he strode to the exit. He was not fond of this new creature. That much was certain. But fear within Leamas tended to have catastrophic results.

Leamas didn’t look back. “When I’m done here on Oed…whatever you are…you may find yourself in a rather unfortunate predicament.” And with that, Leamas opened the door to the outside and left.

And as he walked outside, he sent one very strong message to the one called Ylana inside.

The image of Morin’s face or the sound of his voice is what she would hear. If I had wanted to hurt people here, I would have done so without the disguise. Fascinating party. I had no idea Oed hid such monstrous creatures. Oh, and if you really would like to learn more about your ‘special’ gifts as it were, come find me. Or I’ll find you. No harm meant. You’re quite special here Ylana. And I’d rather you learn the extent of that. Think about it. We’ll talk soon.

And with that, Leamas was gone.
