Shortly after checking in with his boss, Dashel decided to pay a professional and courtesy call on the Head of the Oed V Police Force, Joseph Karlson. They were kind of in the same field, after all, and the CIO never knew when the Police Chief and his staff might be needed to look the other way, or came across some information that might be useful to the CIO. Of course, that flowed both ways, and should he learn that the Governor or one of the Civilian heads be threatened in some way, Dashel was certain that the Chief of Police would appreciate knowing the details. It was a visit in a professional capacity and so Dashel still wore his dress uniform and the baldric and took his bat’leth with him. Of course, the fact that a human Starfleet officer was carrying a weapon in public would have spread ahead of him to the Police HQ.
“Is your boss in?” he asked an officer, “I’m the new Chief Intelligence Officer, and as I was in the neighbourhood, I thought I’d pay him the courtesy of a visit. If a later time is better, I’m happy to return.”
-Lt Dashel Jamison, CIO
The officer pointed him to the office. It was a spacious room. On the left were two large bookcases filled to the brim with actual physical books, psychology, military history, the Federation Constitution and the like. On the right was a short wooden cabinet and hanging above it where seven framed pictures of the Large Commissioner shaking hands with certain Individuals, One with a Starfleet Admiral, another with Him in Marine dress uniform shaking the hands with another as dressed General Officer. Three Photos with him and the last three Governors of Oed and on top with him shaking hands with the last two UFP Presidents. Just next to the cabinet was a sofa, two lounge chairs and a coffee table facing the great view from the Tower. At the very end of the OFfice was a large Wooden desk with two chairs in front of it. It was tidy, had a single Computer Console, a single photo frame facing in and a tall glass filled with ice. On either side were four flags, on the Left the Oed V colony flag next to the Icelandic National flag and on the right the UFP flag next to the flag of the Starfleet Marine Corps
Just past the desk stood the large elderly Police Commissioner looking out the window. His Jacket hung on the back of his chair, he was wearing blue suit pants and a dark vest. His shirts sleeves were rolled up. It was clear he was still a very muscular man despite his age. In front of him was another Cabinet with more picture frames and a folded UFP Flag and a showcase filled with something the Lieutenant couldn’t quite see. He didn’t turn around “Welcome Lieutenant Jamison, I trust you had a pleasant journey?” His voice was pleasant, grandfatherly, even trustworthy. His right hand was in his pants pocket and his left held a wooden cane, seemingly supporting his massive body.

Thanks.
IC: Dash took in the room with a professional eye, he liked what he saw. He noted the flags, particularly the Iceland one, and the pictures, at the Commissioner’s words, he focused on Karlson.
“Yes, Commissioner, a pleasant journey. I enjoyed the chance to travel and rest between missions,” Dash replied, and then motioned to the Iceland flag, “I was going to go there and do the mountains and the caves with my brother, but after he died, the desire to go mountain climbing hasn’t been there for me.”
Joseph turned around, a sombre smile “I’m sorry for your loss” He took a step towards his deck and sat down in his large Leather Chair. He placed his cane in a small holster on the side of his desk
Dash walked to one of the chairs as he spoke. Reaching it, he motioned and asked “may I sit?”
The Commissioner indicated to on of the chairs on the other side of the desk, continuing his smile although less somberly now.
“The purpose of my visit today is to meet you in person, and for us to get to know each other, a bit beyond what the profiles say. We’re both tasked in the task of protecting the colony of Oed V, even if our fields of responsibility are different. I must say, your profile doesn’t do you justice, Commissioner.”
-Dashel Jamison, CIO
“Yes indeed” He chuckled at his last comment “It doesn’t, Well I’ll take that as a good thing” He tapped something on his Computer, after a moment and a few beeps he seemed satisfied with what he had in front of him “Your predecessor was an interesting fellow, not entirely up to the job, I do hope you are more qualified” He leaned back in his chair and looked at the young man. His deep blue eyes had a penetrating quality like he was staring through a man’s soul.
“It was meant as a good thing, Commissioner,” Dash said, “your profile is impressive, but meeting you in person is far more impressive. I hope I am better qualified as well, Sir.”
“I had some words with the Director of Starfleet Intelligence recently, I’ve had to make calls to the upper echelons a few times because of Intelligence misconduct in the past” He pressed one of the buttons on the side of his desk. A moment later his assistant walked in with a tray. She placed a single glass in front of the Lieutenant filled with a slightly dark liquid and ice, a small tray of varied biscuits and poured into the tall glass that was already on the table “Iced tea, prune flavour. I understand it’s a favourite of yours” Joseph smiled as he took his own glass “I prefer Lemon myself”
Dash gave a salute with the glass, before taking a sip and smiled, “Morak, my adopted father, always drank it on the Might and introduced me to it. I developed the taste for it over time. Once we reached Qon’os, he tried to introduce me to bloodwine as well, with results that were … less than impressive.”
Dash smiled as he thought on that, and then took another sip of his drink, “I’ve been told about that by my superiors,” he said briefly, before the Commissioner continued on.
He took a small sip from his glass and was apparently pleased with the outcome “Thank you Joe” He told his assistant who simply smiled and left. “The most notable case was a few years ago” He continued his previous statement “When we were attacked by a hostile ship because your superiors thought that having an SI black site was a clever idea and that illegally detaining prisoners here was an even better idea” He continued his friendly smile and demeanour “I, of course, don’t blame you for the mistakes of your predecessors, but I hope we can avoid repeating history”
Commissioner Karlson
“Yes, that was spoken about with me,” Dash said, “it formed a key part of the briefing sessions and I was told that under no circumstances was I to hold prisoners here … if there was any chance of being caught.” Dash laughed at that. Dash seemed to turn serious, he sat up straighter and he looked directly at the commissioner, “believe me, Commissioner, I know that mistakes have been made in the past. I know that Starfleet are mostly tolerated on Oed V. I know that failures in intelligence gathering have led to the destruction of infrastructure and the injury or death of Governors, Lt Governors and both Starfleet officers and Civilians in the past. I know there have been kidnappings, murders, rumours of secret starfleet and marine bases in the Oed System. I pledge to learn from those past mistakes and to work with you and the rest of the civilian government as well as my colleagues in Starfleet to minimise the chance of them happening again.” Dash turned his gaze back to his drink, and his demeanour stopped being so serious, “after all, Commissioner, I have to live here, too, and I’d rather be able to dine without the fear that the chef is trying to poison me.”
-CIO Dash Jamison
“This is why you should cook your own food” The Commissioner Joked “Well I am very pleased to hear such devotion from you and I can assure you that you will get cooperation from the Police on any matters you require. Your main point of contact will be the Major Crimes unit led by Detective Chief Inspector Pangolin, He reports to Detective Superintendent Isabelle Jones, any requests can be made through her.” He leaned back in his chair “Is there anything specific you want to discuss with me?”
