OOC: Anyone that is on Oed V and want to meet Valkris’ parents, feel free to hop in.

IC: Valkris arrived on the Oed V. She stood on the docks, her feet struggled not to move. If she did, she was certain to pace the smooth floor. Her head glanced around for a few seconds. She straightened her red shirt as she continued to wait in place. The tension was so thick she could cut it with a blade before her eyes spotted them.

Her parents.

She knew her father’s long, dark hair. It had braids in several strands down to his shoulder, the top thinning around his head sagittal. His skin was much darker than Valkris from harsh elements and genetic traits. They both shared the same stock build in their frames.

Ka’Pek, son of K’lawuk, walked with purpose toward Valkris. His board figure parted the crowds as he waded through them. Hot on his heels was a much smaller human, settling at about 5‘2”. Her salt and pepper hair was also braided in the back and she glared in annoyance at him.

In comparison, Jani MacLaren felt like a dwarf against her mate. The small woman stepped twice as fast to keep up with his lengthy strides.

When they finally noticed Valkris, she stepped closer and spoke to her father first.

” Qaleghqa’mo’ jIQuch. ( I’m glad because I see you again)”

As she spoke, her mother swept in for a hug. Her arms wrapped tightly about Valkris causing a smile to sprout. Enjoying her mother’s love for a few moments, Valkris let her drift away and kissed her on the forehead. It helped Valkris was about four inches taller than her mother.

“All right, enough speaking in Klingon. I’ve heard enough to last me a lifetime. Especially after the last diplomatic visit.” Jani stated with a firm command.

Ka’Pek appeared about to protest when the small woman spun around to face him. The movement was sudden and there was clear aggression in her stance.

“Don’t you dare argue with me, Ka’Pek.” The spitfire woman warned.

Valkris fought not to laugh. Wisely, Ka’Pek’s lips shut and pressed them into a disapproving frown. Valkris could tell he had considered pushing his boundaries but didn’t for sake of the visit. Or the embarrassment. It was hard to properly read her father some times.

“Now, I’m sure we’re both hungry. So may we get something to eat and we all can catch up?” Her mother’s voice flipped back to friendly one when she addressed her daughter.

“Yes, mom. I was considering the local pub, The Pale Horse. Have you heard of it?”

“I’m afraid I haven’t,” she looked to Ka’Pek who also shrugged to show his ignorance about the place.

“You’ll enjoy it, both of you,” Valkris stated and began to lead the way.

The Pale Horse was a sizable bar in the style of a Britisih pub, wooden framing with aged brickwork. Tinted windows with elaborate decorations in Nordic Earth style. The sign was wooden decorated with a masterfully handcarved white horse carrying a cloaked rider. Inside there were several booths around the outer walls and a raised platform on the innermost side creating a more private seating area. Several tables were scattered across the main floor. There was an archway going to a backroom were games could be heard, the place was moderately busy. In the center was an Ellipse shaped bar with a tall wall in the middle with multiple bottles of alchohol on shelves attatched to a big mirror on both sides.

Near the entrance a Catian in a red sirt and dark vest sat at a single table with a dark frothy beer next to him, he was reading a PaDD. When the group entered the bar he stood up and smiled at them “Welcome to the Pale Horse, how many?” He asked, on his chest was a nametag marked ‘Mrerr’ but oddly enough he spoke in a liverpool accent.

Mrerr

Valkris could feel her father’s confused look, followed by her mother’s smile. Places like this were interesting to her mother and herself. For her father, he tended to focus on the food. He preferred more Klingon cuisine than Earth so she hoped they had something today that would fit. Most restaurants usually served various cultures to please a wide range of customers.

“Three please,” Valkris stated as she heard Mrerr speak, unfazed by his accent. She suspected most employees had trained to sound similar, primarily to add to the appeal.

“This way please,” The Catian said with a toothy grin. He grabbed three leather-bound menu books and led the group passed the bar and to a booth on the other side of the bar. From there they could see out the main tinted window on their right and to the left was a small empty stage previously hidden by the bar. The alien placed the analog menus on the table. “Would you care for some drinks whilst you look at the menu?” He asked.

Mrerr

Valkris followed the Catian’s lead, her parents close behind her. Their expressions flowed from interest to uncertainty. As they approached their table, they promptly took their seats. Mother had sat closest to her and her father across from her.

As Valkris took the first menu, she paused to answer the woman.

“Yes, thank you. I think some water will be nice for all of us.”

She looked at her father who frowned but bit his tongue. Valkris knew it wasn’t solely because of her. Her mother was sitting beside her and stared into her father’s direction, daring him to speak. Instead, he exhaled. He slouched in his seat some while accepting the choice for him.

“Hopefully we’ll have our order by the time you come back.”
