Indeed, Leamas had recognized the voice. But as to how…he could not even imagine. The Guardians of Kaladon were those who carried out prison sentences. Almost like a judge mixed with a bailiff. They guarded the laws of Kaladon and were careful that all obeyed them. The voice of this one, was the same one that carried out Leamas’s own sentence of exile.

He was still, and almost afraid…almost. Why would the same Guardian be here on the planet in which he had been exiled? What Guardian would volunteer to do such a thing? None that he could think of. But there was only one way to be sure.

He opened his mind in way of greeting. However in doing so, he opened up his presence to any psionic abled person. Ylana would sense the same presence that had been there with her and Archanon in her makeshift dream. Halai would sense the presence of something powerful. The emotions that came forth from Leamas were a bit of fear with a lot of anger.

And which Guardian do you think you are? he practically mentally spat, keeping the name of said Guardian closed in his mind.

The voice paused for a moment before replying, “You dare to order me traitor? I shall tell you my name, but only to ensure that you know that justice is coming for you. It will not be this day, but it will be soon. I, $#%#$%$%# promise this.” The last word was said in a language so ancient, so primal, that it forced the brain of those who listened to fill it in with what was expected. One did not need to probe a mind if they could trick it.

Ylana moved through the house in the direction of the presence she was familiar with, bolstering her mind carefully. She didn’t say anything and in fact approached quietly, trying to figure out what was going on.
