I had a fall in Christmas in 2016 which was worse than I thought it was at the time.

I was holidaying in Canada, and was focused more on the traffic coming then where I was putting my feet and stepped on unsafe ice and fell.

Midway through last year, I realised that it wasn’t getting better on its own and went to see my doctor who sent me to specialists for scans and who sent me for an appointment with a surgeon.

It turns out I have a haglund’s deformity in my right ankle. Basically, a bone is out of position, has developed a bone spur and with every step it pierces the achilles tendon. It hurts. A lot. Some days it is so bad I want to chop the foot off. Other days it feels almost normal. Unfortunately there are more days on the bad end of the spectrum than the good end. Most days sitting at a computer to type for longer than 5 minutes is too painful.

On Monday the 25th of March (26 days away) I am in hospital for surgery on the ankle, followed by sick leave of 2 weeks and recovery. I am looking forward to 25th March and have started a countdown to that date.
