In the two years that Erin had been absent, OED had clearly changed. Not so much that it was unrecognizable, but just enough that it made what was familiar look just different enough for someone who had done the commute many times to notice.

For the most part, the Government Tower was just as she remembered it, both inside and out. Inside, some faces were the same, some faces were new, but that was to be expected.

Realizing that this was technically her first day back on the job and that she had no access to any floor of the tower just yet, Erin walked to the main reception desk and after finding someone available, she asked with a polite smile.

“Hi, my name is Erin Hazen-Cooper. I’m the…” she was going to say ‘new’, but she wasn’t really new now, was she? “… returning… Director of Terraforming. I’m here to see Governor th’Renn.” Even saying it felt weird, but Erin was proud of her former colleague nonetheless. “Would it be possible to let him know that I’m here? Or would it be preferable if I go up to 49?”

The young man at the counter smiled, he motioned to a piece of class about the size of a hand on the counter. “Place your hand on the glass” he requested one hand on the keyboard the other where it could not be seen. When the clearance game back, he smiled. “Facial and bio confirmed.” His once hidden hand produced a small coloniel government combadge. “Director Hazencooper” he said the names flowed together like they were one. “The govenor is in a meeting with the Lieutenant govenor, but you are free to proceed to the 49th floor, and wait” he said. “Your officer is on 48, east wing, 4803” not noted “Welcome back” he then looked back to his screen.

Erin nodded. She was moving up in life…! Last time she had been stationed on the 23rd floor. This was definitely an upgrade! “That will give me something to do while I wait!” She said to the young man with a charming smile and a wink. “Thank you!” She said cheerfully before turning around and walking to the elevators.

The ride up was faster than Erin recalled, but then again, she hadn’t climbed to the top of the tower that often. First she got out on the 48th floor, hoping to quickly get a glance of what her workspace would look like. The floor was larger than she expected, and it took her slightly longer to find office 4803, but when she did she was… happy with what she found. At least Erin thought so… It was always weird to stare at an empty office, not knowing exactly what it would look like when one moved in. All in all, however, it was a comfortable working space, larger than what she had before, and with a window, which would be fundamental to all the plants she was bring to decorate the space with. Glancing around the vacant room once more, Erin took inventory of each and every one of her plants, as well as where they could fit in the space.

Finally, feeling like she had already taken too long, Erin called the lift and rose to the 49th floor, hoping to find a waiting area where she could, well… wait.

An administrative assistant sat working through something at her desk. She looked up for a moment then back down, then back up. “Director Hazencooper, if you wait just a few moments the Governor will be with you shortly. Feel free to help yourself to the replicator” she said smiling.

The waiting area was very warm and inviting, the gray sofas were soft and filled with pillows, adjustable coffee tables sat Infront of each providing a small desk if needed. It was comfortable, a soft Andorian sonnet played in the background.

“Thank you.” Erin said warmly in a lower tone, almost as if she didn’t want to disturb the peacefulness of the room.

Not knowing how long she would have to wait, Erin made herself comfortable in one of the sofas. For a moment, she eyed the replicator, wondering if she should get something. However, she knew that if she did, she wouldn’t have time to eat it (though given her luck, if she didn’t get anything from the replicator, she would find herself with time to spare).

Ten minutes later the receptionist looked up, “You may go in Governor Renn will see you know” she said.

The sofas were so soft and comfortable that for a split second, Erin felt sad she had to get up. Once back on her feet though, she nodded politely to the receptionist, and walked to the Governor’s office, knocking softly before going in, eager to see how one of her oldest colleagues on OED was doing.

The office had been newly decorated and was filled with artifacts from Andoria. Some were personal, while others had been given to Renn, in recognition of his contributions to his homeworld. The room was inviting to the eye, something he had hired a decorator to ensure. It was kept cool at sixteen degrees Celsius. Renn would have preferred it closer to zero, but that would have been horribly uncomfortable for the rest of his staff.

Renn’s smiled could not be contained my mear cheekbones. He approached his friend with a rappid poudnig of his feet. His arms flew out wide, and before she knew it she was surounded by as soft friendly hug. For a blind man he certianly found his target fast, she had barly stepped in the room.

Smiling he took a step back. “I’m so glad you decided to return! How is your husband?” he asked. “Please” he said motioning to the sofa over looking the city.

“Vaelir!” Erin said cheerfully returning the hug. “It’s so good to see you again.” The wide smile on her lips matching that of her old friend. Despite her knowing him to be blind, as Aenar usually were, it didn’t surprise her that he had been able to find her as fast as he did, as she came into the room. They had worked closely enough together in the past that, if there had been any surprise at the fact that the new Governor could move through the world in the same way one would expect a sighted individual to do, that surprise had been long gone.

“Gavin is great!” Erin said of her husband, answering the question. “He’s back at the helm of the Cavalier (OOC: Lucas Holloway’s ship). And you know I would never decline an offer from you.” She said with a chuckle. “But enough about me.” Erin continued, looking around the office. “How’s Governor life treating you? I am so happy that you got the job! I know you’ll do great things for the Colony.” Even though Renn wouldn’t be able to see the genuine pride in her eyes, as a telepath, he would definitely be able to feel it in her presence.

His smile was broad. “It certianly has it’s percs” he said. “I imagine you are happy with your knew office?” he said pouring water that looked almost blue, “From the glaciers of my homeland, It the most pure and mineral rich water you’ll ever taste” he said pushing a glass her way. “I’m still getting used to the job really, you know how I love to be the center of attention”, he joked, it was the opposite really he was more of a worker than a talker. He was happiest with himself and a few co-workers trying to solver issues

Erin cheerfully took the offered glass, nodding in thanks as she held it. “Yes.” Hazen said in playful sarcasm. “I remember how much you loved being in the spotlight.” She smiled and winked. “Oh, and the new office is perfect.” Erin beamed, her tone genuinely happy. “It’s almost as if you knew me before I got here!” She chuckled.

“There is a lot going on, I’m not sure I trust the teriforming advancement the Vrenn gave us it’s working fast but I feel like we will be living in a Vrenn jungle. Can you validate what it’s actually doing?” he asked

Hazen took a sip of the water while she thought, and for a moment she was distracted with its taste. She had never visited Andoria, but for a split second, she felt like she had been transported to the icy planet, and she took a second to savor it, before her mind brought Erin back to the room and to the question she had been asked. “I’m afraid I will have to dig up the research the Terraforming team did on it.” She finally said. Erin recalled the conversation she had had with Governor Hyrushi at the time, on a gift the Vren had brought that would help to terraform OED in record time. “I was part of the project when it first started but I had to leave it behind when I left…” Erin’s expression turned sadder. “I’m sure the project wouldn’t have gone ahead if our teams hadn’t vouched for it, and you know as well as I do the quality of our research personnel.” She smiled. “But I will look at the project and see what conclusions they drew from the Vren’s gift to us.” At the time, Hazen had had her doubts but she chose not to voice them. However, Vaelir would know her well enough to see her own reservations about the process. “What do you think of it?” Erin asked instead. “And the speed of the terraforming process?”

Renn smiled, “I’m just checking a few things out, It is working verry well, I just want to make sure that it is teriforming to our needs.” he said with not particular note in his voice , which she knew meant he was chewing on something . Truth was he was afraid that they would wake up in a steamy jungle and not a temperate zone. “Im going to be calling a cabinet meeting early next week to talk about the state of things, do you think you can have the assesment done by then?” he asked

Erin nodded as she took the glass to her lips for another sip. “It might be a little more preliminary than what I would like it to be…” She said. The new governor would be familiar with how thorough Hazen liked to be on every single project she undertook, whether a report, a survey, any kind of assessment, or a full blown scientific experiment. “… but I’ll have it for the meeting.” Erin pondered for another moment, as she sipped on the water. There had been something on Vaelir’s expression when he had spoken that she couldn’t shake off. “Do you have any particular concern in mind that you would like me to focus on, or do you want me to just make a general assessment of the whole project?”

Vaelir looked at her a moment, he rememnbed how excited they had been when they reviewed the gift from the Vren, it had givenen them a much needed boast to the teraforming efforts. “I just don’t want to wake in a sweaty Jungle one day, if you catch my meaning” he sugested. “The Vren are asking to put a nursery her at OED, they say it’s to help presearve thier speicies, but that begs the question, with the planet about to be destroyed where do they intend to settle, there is no where around here that meets thier needs” he said
