Sharah stood on the orbital platform waiting for the ship that would deliver her mother, father, and brother to Oed. They were coming to meet Charles and Yavia. To see her of course, but to meet the two people who had changed her life so very much. Sharah was nervous and it was exasperated by the fact that everyone around her was nervous or excited or anxious about their own visitors, trips, deliveries, and just the chaos of the station.

Sharah should have worn her headband, but she didn’t want to scare her parents when they arrived and couldn’t sense her. She felt a little ping that brought a tear to her eyes. Her father. He was out there and getting closer. She’d missed him SO VERY MUCH since she left for the Academy. Soon she was going to have one of his huge all-encompassing hugs. She couldn’t wait.

Finally, Sharah saw the discovery class science vessel pull into a docking port. She hurried across the deck to the large window and watched as it slid into place. It wasn’t a Star Fleet vessel anymore. It was an older model that had been repainted and renamed. It was a good vessel, though. She’d travelled on a few of them over the years. She couldn’t see her parents, of course, but that didn’t stop her from straining her eyes to catch a glimpse of them through the airlock hatch. She felt the stronger ping of her father and the quieter, softer ping of her mother. She bit her lip with barely restrained excitement as she hurried toward the hatch to wait for them.
