It was quite the task that Hyrushi had given her to start with, but Sharah knew who the perfect person was to find out the information they needed. =/\=Nurse Crockett, can you come to my office please.=/\= Sharah heard the “OOOOHHHH” and whistles before the comm closed. She laughed quietly. She knew what they were thinking, but that was alright. It wasn’t like Sharah wouldn’t take the opportunity to enjoy Yavia’s company for a minute before telling her what she needed.

Dr. Fayth, DoMSS

A few minutes later Yavia knocked on the frame of the open door. She walked into Sharah’s new office. She pressed the button to close the door and lock it. Her grin was mischievous. “First day on the job and already abusing that power to get alone time with me? Sharah? I’m so proud of you.” She laughed and walked over, wrapping her arms around her and kissing her deeply.

“I am you know. I am so very proud of you, Sweetheart.”

Sharah laughed against Yavia’s lips. “Thank you. That means a lot. BUT,” she pulled back and grinned, “I didn’t call you here to celebrate. I have a special assignment for you. Let’s sit down.” She moved over to the small couch after grabbing a PaDD off of her desk.

Dr. Fayth, DoMSS

Yavia sat and grinned. “A special assignment? For me? Oh Director, are you playing favorites?” she teased Sharah but turned to look at the PaDD Sharah held in her hand.

Yavia

“The governor is concerned that we have an larger than average population of orphaned children. We are not sure why that is, but he thinks a part of the issue may be that we have failed to provide the social programs necessary to help parents raise their children. He wants that investigated and addressed.”

“He has charged me with making sure we are providing more than adequate care for those children. Housing, medical care, education, vocational training, adoption services with thorough vetting of prospective parents.”

Sharah glanced at Yavia to see her expression. “It is a huge project, but I can’t think of anyone else who has the skills, personality, and insight you do, to gather this information and help us determine where we’ve failed.”

Dr. Fayth, DoMSS

Yavia stared at her for a long moment. “You’re serious? You want me to do this? I’m not a researcher or a doctor.”

Sharah shook her head and Yavia could already hear the counter arguments in Sharah’s thoughts. “You love Oed and the people. You have a way of making friends anywhere, and not because of your empathy. Children adore you, and inately trust you. You are also passionate, Yavia. This project needs passion and protectiveness, not a lab.”

“Yes, of course I’ll do it. What kind of time frame are we looking at?”

“The sooner the better. I’d like an update in a week. I don’t expect answers by then, but an update of how it is going. If you need me to make any appointments or calls tell me. And I’ve cleared your schedule for this,” Sharah said.

“I’ll get started today. I know exactly how.”

“I knew you would. Now, I have a meeting with the department heads. Wish me luck.” Sharah stood after kissing Yavia’s cheek and grabbed a PaDD and headed out.

Yavia had several places to start. The first was going into the hospitals computer systems and pulling demographic data. She left Sharah’s office and headed to the nurses lounge where she could work. It wouldn’t give her all the answers or data she needed, but it was a place to start.
