“There is no time limit on finding the correct solution… the correct path forward.” Kenzo said while looking straight ahead. He then turned his face to hers and obsidian eyes seemed to draw the light on the room and outside into them, dimming the universe. “We will find the correct path, Eela. And even if I have to carry you down it, I promise you that you will make it through to the end.”
Hyrushi, Governor
She broke into a warm and sincere smile and she held his gaze for several moments, not the least bit uncomfortable. “I’m so glad I have you on my side, Kenzo. I can’t promise you certainty when it comes to dealing with the aftermath of Das’s death, and those responsible. I have always had such a strong sense of justice, but the thing about getting to my age and seeing all that I’ve seen is that I know it’s not a cut and dry thing. The middle ground can be ambiguous and and more often then not unsatisfying. This is one of those times that my instincts tell me I can’t let my emotions guide me. They won’t lead me anywhere productive. So, for now, thank you for holding space for us to figure out whatever the answer might be.
“You are my friend.” Kenzo said with no injection of emotion. Simply stating a fact. “And I have few of those, so I tend to keep the ones I do have close. Take all the time or space you need.”
She nodded.
Eela looked back over the colony. “For now, we have people depending on us to keep us moving along, and a dying people we can help. And I will pause and seek that internal clarity.” She drew in a deep breath that pushed her lungs against her ribs and let it out with a soft sigh before looking back at her friend and partner. “Are Caridee and I still okay to do the ritual at your place?”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
” Of course. I insist you do.” Kenzo said. “My home is open to you whenever you wish.”
Hyrushi, Governor
Eela nodded again as she sucked in a breath. “Okay, then she and I will finish the preparations.”
“Did you want to have a separate meeting with Doctors Fayth and McKenzie before the cabinet meeting or just talk with them briefly before the meeting itself?” In her mind she was working out the logistics and making sure they didn’t miss anything prior to meeting with the cabinet and not only laying out the nursery request but also their plan for the defensive shield. There were a lot of details to make sure they had ready but also they were going to just have to wing it at some point.

“After the meeting, I think. I do not wish them distracted during the meeting. We will simply have them stay over after it concludes and give them their instructions then.” Kenzo said as he moved back to his chair and took a seat. “I am going to ask the CIA to look into Mr. Kennick. Unobtrusively, of course. And I have let my staff at my home know you are coming and to give you anything you may need. Ms. Fen has also volunteered her services to you, if you would like.”
Hyrushi, Governor
Her eyebrows quirked and she gazed intently at him, before moving back towards the desk. “Really? That’s… unexpected. Fen, not the CIA. I had suspected they were already on it.”
Eela drew in a deep breath and nodded. “The Sua Soams is quiet a solitary experience, but obviously there is someone to guide the process. That’s Dee. But we do generally prefer to have a witness to the consent. Dee must go over all the risks and I have to then consent to undergo the ritual. While not legally necessary, it protects everyone if there is a witness to the informed consent. If Ms. Fen is wiling to be present, then I’d be honoured.”
“I’m sure the honor would be hers.” Kenxo said.
She expression quirked into a smirk. “Now, should I just walk out your door and ask her? Or should I come back later?” Would Dorma be surprised at Eela’s sudden appearance from the wrong direction? She was certain Cort and Dorma had figured out that Eela and Kenzo had a means of secretly accessing each other’s offices, but she had never told Cort. She wondered if Dorma knew. The whole thing was one of those small amusements that were nice to have and kept things form feeling too dire all the time.

Kenzo gave a rare dry chuckle. “If she does not know about the passageway by now, I may have to find a more competent assistant.” He looked at Eela and said “Afterwards, once the ceremony is complete… if you and your daughter would care to stay for a meal, I would be most delighted to have you both join me.”
Hyrushi, Governor
She broke into a warm smile. “That would be lovely. I won’t speak entirely for Caridee, but I imagine she’ll be glad for the invitation. We accept.”
Eela gazed at him a long moment, emanating a wave of trust and gratitude. “Well, now that I’ve dropped my latest bomb, time to go cook up more trouble. I’m at least living up to my nickname.” She was entirely joking, and yet not. Koonita, indeed.
With a bow of her head to him, she moved to the door and slipped out.
Appearing at the front she grinned at Dorma, and folded her arms across the top of the reception desk.
Eela waited till she was certain Fen was free to talk and her hazel eyes lit up. “I understand you’ve volunteered for a rather unusual assignment. Though I can’t say it’s too many steps above babysitting a seemingly unconscious person, if you’re truly willing to be there, my daughter and I could actually use a formal witness for the Sua Soams ritual.” She was very serious even as she smiled. The ritual was serious business, but her amusement was genuine.

Dorma smiled and said “The Governor told me about it. I would be most happy to support you and your daughter in this. If there are any preparations at the shrine that need to be done, please let me know. I will take care of it before your arrival.” She looked directly at the Lieutenant Governor and said “And I will pray to the spirits of the shrine before to ask them to support you as well.” She giggled softly and said “They are mischievous at times, but very sincere when needed.”
