Pangolin sat behind his desk, fingers interlocked as he stared at the small holographic display. They needed just a little more information, information he couldn’t access. So far this had been the first truly productive cross-agency investigation, so he was spending more time waiting for his counterparts to gather more evidence. He didn’t doubt that he could find much of what his colleagues did; it was how he was trained. But the school of Joseph Karlson didn’t put much stock in being able to prove cases before a Federation Court. That way of working had been effective, especially during the more volatile years on Oed but the shift to a more cooperative atmosphere with the new agencies and the hostile manner in which the government was handling relations with the Federation proper meant a new era. No more shortcuts, no more blackmailing criminals into behaving, no more hanging would-be assassins from the top of the hospital, no more taking part in illegal raids against Klingon diplomats and helping in replacing a Klingon High Lord. He sighed wistfully.

The old man had run the police on a simple philosophy: as long as Civilians weren’t harmed, it was fair game. And at times it had been a game. It had been nearly a decade since he’d seen the old man let loose, and he was hoping it didn’t happen again anytime soon.

OOC: What info specifically were you looking for? I posted some in the other thread and I would assume that is available to the whole MCD team involved in the case. But if there is anything else, let me know and I will see what I have for you. ~Linds

Pangolin opened a line with the Colonial Intelligence Agency “This is Detective Chief Inspector Pangolin for the Director’s office. This is regarding the Dash Jones Investigation. I’m just requesting if there have been any updates on your end. My line is open whenever anyone is available.” He sent the voice note and encoded it with the Police file number for the Dash Jones Case.

DCI Pangolin

“Understood Detective Chief Inspector,” the nondescript receptionist responded. “I will pass the message to the Director, please stand by.”

=^= Mr. Pangolin. A whole lot more circumstantial evidence. But we have a thin line back to Devray. We’ve tracked that Devray tech Cavanagh regularly visiting a shop run by the Syndicate. And we got a connection between the blackmail messages to Mr. Jones and a comm link out of Devray. But that is a weak link to Devray, and nothing to Kennick himself.

Pangolin grimaced =^=Nothing direct, anything further will require direct access to the company. It’d take months for me to set anything up. I haven’t heard from the Tower yet but I’m working on the assumption that the powers that be will want Kennick’s head on the block, an airtight case.=^=

=^=I agree. Not to mention that with his connections, we don’t want Kennick getting off on a technicality. Access to the company is something that has been discussed,=^= Alston said with a meaningful pause. He hoped Pangolin caught his meaning, because comm channels were only as secure as your latest hacker was good, and he didn’t want it potentially showing up in an official record somewhere.

Pangolin nodded; they had gone in the direction he hoped. He had enough experience to know how spooks worked, so even just the hint from him that he needed something extra-legal and they had probably already gotten something in the works =^=Alright, I’ll see if there are any avenues from our end, but right now the ball is in your court. Anything you need from our side?=^= He asked mostly out of formalityþ
