Having finally made it through customs after her long journey, M’Lene wanted nothing more than to find her new apartment and have a nap but she knew duty came first.

After asking directions several times, she finally made it to the government building and took a deep breath. She was nervous to meet to the Governor but she wanted to make a good impression. She quickly licked her paw and smoothed her long orange fur down, hoping she didn’t look too disheveled from her trip then taking a deep breath she entered the impressive building and made her way to the reception desk.

She wandered up to a friendly looking receptionist and cleared her throat politely. “Excuse me? I’m M’Lene, the new Director of Terraforming, I’m to report in to the Governor?” She said, trying to keep the nervousness out of her voice.

OOC : I am SO sorry I missed this!

The woman sitting at the desk was a human with Asian features but also shockingly red hair. As the new director approached the desk, the receptionist looked up and smiled. “Ah yes! Director M’Lene. It is such a pleasure to meet you. I certainly hope your trip to Oed was comfortable and incident free. My name is Dorma Fen, I’m the governor’s assistant. He is expecting you and he will be out shortly. Would you care for something to drink? Thanks to the diversity of the Oedian populace, we can get just about anything you would like.”

M’Lene gave her a friendly grin. “Thank you, yes my trip was fine thanks, at least the part I was awake for,” she chuckled as she felt her nerves begin to settle. “It’s a bit of a long shot but if you have a Nepata tea, I certainly wouldn’t say no?” She asked hopefully. It was often hard for her to find her favourite beverage away from home but she was learning that Oed was quite different to her previous jobs. It seemed to be a gigantic melting pot of hundreds of different cultures and she was excited to see how it worked.

“Of course.” Ms. Fen said with a smile. “I will have it brought in when it is ready. It’s hould be just a moment or two before the Governor is ready for you.” and she stood and walked across the room to a door that slid open and closed behind her.

M’Lene’s eyes lit up as she nodded enthusiastically. “Thank you very much, I would greatly appreciate that,” she said with a giggle.

Having heard that she had arrived at the Tower, Eela slipped up her secret staircase. It was her first week back at work after her impromptu absence and it had been okay so far, though there was a cabinet meeting coming up in a couple days that she was feeling less confident about. One-on-one meetings were far les overwhelming. Still, she looked the part, as always, wearing a wide structured pale pink skirt to her shins and a fitted black sleeveless top under a loose black jacket. She knocked on the door before poking her head in, as was their custom.

“Well, how are we feeling about another Director of Terraforming? I’m starting to understand what you must have gone through with my predecessors.” The fact was that they had crucial projects on the go that could not be abandoned simply because the spot was becoming vacant too often. Oed must continue to push forward.

Dorma Fen, Governor’s Aide

Kenzo looked up at her, motioned for her to approach and said “I am hoping the revolving door becomes jammed.” He stood up and walked around the desk. “Let’s see what Fate has deemed to be our next project, shall we?” and he pressed an icon on the desk ‘s interface and the large, heavy doors to the reception area swung outwards. Hytushi walked through and set his obsidian eyes on the figure he had seen only in a hole in a file prior to this moment. “Director M’Lene. Welcome to Oed V. It is very good to have you. This is our Lieutenant Governor, Captain Eela Dasca. Please, come in. We are excited to have you with us.” Hyrushi’s voice was calm and smooth, and he swept his arm back towards the office.

M’Lene smiled warmly as she extended her furry hand to each of them in turn. “Thank you Governor, Lt Governor, it’s an honour to be here and I’m very grateful for the opportunity,” she replied as her ears and nose instinctively twitched, taking in her new surroundings. She couldn’t hide the childlike excitement that had been building in her since she set off for Oed V. The opportunity to be part of transforming such a barren and lifeless terrain was something that every terraformer dreamed of.

The office beyond the doors was like something from a vid. The room was very large, with a white tile floor, and consisted of two walls of floor to ceiling windows lining the left side and the wall facing the doors. The right wall was a white masonry of some kind for half of the length of the room; and the masonry section was set in from the windows of the far right corner, with a large fireplace in front of a seating area. In front of the fireplace was a large seating area with two couches and three chairs, all seemingly built for comfort. In the middle was a low table made of transparent aluminum. But it was the far left corner of the room that drew attention. There sat a large sldesk on a raised section of the floor with two long, wide steps leading up to it. In front of the desk were two chairs. Governor Hyrushi walked around the desk and took a seat, gesturing to a chair in front of the desk.

M’Lene stared in awe at the impressive architecture and grandeur of the room. She had lived in her small village on Macaderna, the academy and her starship postings so she had never really seen anything on this scale before. She smiled warmly and took a seat.

“Now then, before we begin, what questions do you have?” he asked the new Terrafirming Director.

M’Lene thought for a moment, sneaking another quick peek around the room. “I don’t know really, I’m just keen to get started…” she mused and instinctively smoothed her fur which was starting to stick up in her excited state. “Oh, I do have a question actually, how large is the terraforming team and what have they been working on recently?” She asked curiously.

“Not only will you find you have an extensive team but there is an entire science and terraforming complex. There are hundreds of scientists on Oed, including the Starfleet ones assigned. While the Starfleet science team has facilities at the Starfleet complex, many work on joint project out of the civilian complex,” Eela said. “The Terraforming team itself has different projects on the go, but the biggest one is the quiet investigation of a potential accelerator to our terraforming process.” She gazed at Kenzo, knowing that it was important to discuss the sensitive nature of the Vren gift and what it could ultimately mean for Oed as a planet.

M’Lene’s golden eyes lit up as she realised what an exciting opportunity this was for her. She had of course read up on Oed V before arriving but she hadn’t grasped the sheer size of the colony. She nodded eagerly, keen to see her new base of operations. “Excellent!” She replied and began purring as she looked through all the current projects her department was working on. Her department…she still couldn’t quite believe she was here. “Are there any additional duties I need to be aware of as director?” She asked.

“Yes. You will be working closely with the colony’s Conservation Director.” Hyrushi said. “He is very knowledgeable and possess an almost intuitive understanding of life and environmental sciences. He is also somewhat… um… I will say ‘eccentric’, for lack of a better term. He is currently leading the research on the gift from the Vren.”

“It would be prudent that you understand that this gift from the Vren is not public knowledge yet. The cabinet knows, as do specific groups working in it, but right now we’re trying to ascertain whether its use would negatively affect Oed, even in the slightest. So far, it looks very promising but we don’t dare introduce it into our actual biome until we satisfied it won’t be a problem.” That was just the substance itself, and said nothing about how Oed’s citizenry light react.

M’Lene nodded in agreement. “Absolutely, I will use utmost discretion, no point getting the folks all excited if it’s of no use,” she agreed as she flipped through her PaDD looking at all the ongoing projects. “It certainly looks like I’m going to be busy,” she chuckled, excited to get stuck in. “And thank you for the opportunity, most terraformers spend the vast majority of their time in study and research, it’s an exciting prospect to be working on live projects.” She added, her excitement and happiness evident from the purr in her voice.
