Jewel stood outside the commissioners office smoothing her pants, her badge was clipped to her belt her long black cloak shifted as she entered the reception area. Her mind and heart were still spinning from her encounter the roof, she was tired but high on the rush of it all. She had never connected with someone like that before. She had met Karlson a few times, she was not sure he would remember her, but face time was face time. She was not entirely sure what he wanted, special assignment maybe. She strutted up to the receptionist no sway in her step. She looked down a force non smile on her face. “Inspector Stone, here to see Commissioner Karlson as requested.”

The receptionist send Stone on her way down the hall where a Secretary met with her and opened the large wooden doors to the Commissioner, exchanging some words before he turned back to the Detective “Please go in” He said with a pleasent smile before returning to his desk.
“Thank you.” she said politely, she was far more reserved when she was on duty. She looked around at the room as the doors opened surveying the environment trying to get a feel for the man that occupied it.
The office was spacious, one side had several bookcases with several actual paper books, and each case had a display shelf with several holopics of the Commissioner with various known people, the last four Governors, Cabinets, and Starfleet Security Chiefs as well as Several Federation Presidents. A more recent addition was a picture taken from a public dinner with the Klingon ambassador from the house of Durok. There were physical copies of books, mostly on criminology, the Justice System, and a printed collection of Oed Laws and public ordinances.
She new the man was connected he had been her a long time, the books are what caught her a little of guard though nothing about here look as she walked in would suggest that it had. She look around casually at the room as she moved forward toward the commissioner.
There was a larger slightly raised area with sofas, chairs, and tables for more informal conversations. On the lounge side there was a door marked for a bathroom, on the bookcase side there was another door with a keypad next to it with no markings. On the opposite end to the door was the Commissioner’s Desk with two guest chairs, the large wooden desk was decorated with several photo frames facing the Commissioner’s side, a computer console that seemed to retract into the desk on command, and central on the desk a small orb to project holographic images.
Standing in the lounge area was the ever-imposing figure of Oed’s Police Commissioner. Today, he was wearing a three-piece charcoal grey suit, bespoke and fairly modern compared to his usual outfits. Collarless shirt in the Andorian style and no tie. Today’s cane was a common sight, light wood with a simple handle made of some sort of rubber. He smiled and removed the spectacles from his face and walked across the room, and put out a large hand “Detective Inspector, welcome” he said brightly “Come have a seat”
Joseph moved to the lounge and lowered himself into a cushioned chair. The man had been a very public figure on Oed for the last fifteen years, both as head of the Police and one time Governor, his attitude fit that of the affable grandfatherly man he was in interviews and in person it was always more clear that he looked nowhere near his almost eighty years. “Anything to drink, eat?” He offered, indicating the various drinks on the table, tea, coffee, juice, water, pastries, and fruits.

Jewel had him all figured out the second she stepped into the room, she had heard he was nice but, the nature of the rooms suggested something different a quiet reserved man, and then he opened his mouth and the grandfather like voice greeted her as if she was an old friend. Her eyes widened slightly, perhaps it was the lack of sleep. “Commissioner,” she said smiling a little. “Coffee please” she noted as she sat down.

Joseph poured into two ceramic cups, passed one to Stone and grabbed the other before leaning back into his seat “Detective Superintendent Sh’zirel speaks highly of you. She’s recommended you for a promotion” He reached into his pocket and pulled out several objects. A small shield communicator, an identity card, and a badge in a leather wallet. The shield, although antiquated, was standard for the Oed Police Force. It had her Police ID number, the rank of Detective Chief Inspector and MCD written on it “I’ve approved your promotion to DCI and offer a transfer to the Major Crimes Division. If you accept, you’d be given your own unit, your own choice of investigators and anyone from outside the CID” He meant the Criminal Investigative Department, the detectives of Oed “Your direct Superviser would be Detetctive Chief Inspector Pangolin”
Jewel started thinking immediately, she looked at the badge and tried to process what it all meant, she certainly had not been expecting it, nore did she expect that Sh’zirel would make the recommendation. It wasn’t that Sh’zirel didn’t like her, she used Jewel a lot in recent years, she just had not really given any indication that this was coming, she had questions for sure.
Pangolin was known as the commissioner’s right hand in matters of criminal investigation. The man was believed to be around the same age as the Commissioner, but as he was a quarter Vulcan, he’d aged rather well, appearing only in his early forties. He was also at least part Trill, and Betazoid, and most believed that he was also part human. He’d been one of the earliest Colonists on Oed and one of the first to become a Detective, and it was a common rumour that the only reason Karlson moved there was because Pangolin had been one of his subordinates in the Marine Corps; they often referred to one another with their old Military ranks. Pangolin had been running the Major Crimes Division on his own since its founding only a few years prior, and its scope had grown immensely in that time “If you do accept, besides geting to pick your own team you’d also get to pick your own cases, DCI Pangolin will still have priority on cases involving Starfleet and the CCDA but he expects that any case involving those will require more than his own dedicated unit”
Commissioner Karlson
It would mean that she could delegate, while her work hours would likely get longer she would be able to delegate cases that did not need her immediate attention. “Sir, I don’t know what to say exactly. I was not expecting to get offered a job today. ” she admitted. “I’ve always wanted a Division and Major Crimes is every detectives dream” she said searching him for any hidden information. “Is there anything about the Job I should consider, that may not be obvious” she asked.

Joseph smiled and took a sip of his Coffee “It’ll be the most rewarding and difficult time of your career. Not only do I expect every member of the MCD to excel, I also expect you to be able to work closely with the CCDA, the CIA and Starfleet Security” There was an edge to the last part, Oed Police had historically always had rough relations with Starfleet Security that had only started improving over the last decade or so mostly under the leadership of Longstreet the Starfleet Security Chief, and Karlson. The two had butted heads for years, but also started working closely together before Longstreet was reassigned, starting a new era of cooperation between the two. “You’ll also need to navigate the endlessly complex halls of politics and intrigue, especially with the Vren coming out again.”
