Sharah needed to speak to Kenzo. She was going to have to talk to Charles and Yavia. She would, she had a plan… or the start of a plan, in place. She wanted it to be special. It was hard to keep the secret because someone had blabbed to Yavia that she’d been in neurology for 3 hours. She had reassured her that it was normal, just a routine exam. Yavia didn’t buy it though. Sharah felt guilty about it, but she wasn’t hiding from them, she just wanted to do this right.

There was someone else that needed to know what was going on. It was all because of him. And Kenzo would take the information to the grave if she asked him to. She opened her comm to contact Ms. Fen.

When it connected she smiled. =/\=Hello Ms. Fen. I know the Governor is very busy, but I have an update on that special project we were working on. And I feel it’s better if we discuss it in person. Does he have any time today or tomorrow?=/\=

Lt. Cmdr. Fayth, SFCMO

Dorma smiled at the doctor. She didn’t know her know her, but had spent enough time around her in various events and social engagements that she felt comfortable around the woman. “Hello, Doctor. It is very good to see you. One second, please.” and the line went dark momentarily. A half minute later Dorma reappeared and said “I know it’s short notice, but could you come over right away, the governor has a rare breaking his schedule; and he said that he would be more than happy to spend that discussing the project.”

Dorma Fen, Governor’s Aide

=/\=Thank you Ms. Fen. I’m just at Sacred Heart. I will come right over.=/\= Sharah cut the comm, grateful to Dorma for her help. She was a loyal and efficient person with a caring foundation. Sharah wasn’t sure she would know that if she couldn’t sense it. Being the aid to the governor of a colony like Oed V required a tough outer skin.

Sharah quickly made her way across Sloane Square from the hospital and to the top floor of the government tower. She stepped off the lift and made her way toward Ms. Fen’s desk. “Hello. Thank you again Ms. Fen.”

Lt. Cmdr. Fayth, SFCMO

Dorma smiled and the doors to the office swung open, framing the Governor in the space. He was dressed in a light gray linen suit. He inclined his head towards the Doctor and said “Doctor. Welcome. Please, come in.” and he stepped to the side and waved her through the door into the office.

Kenzo led her to the seating area, and he gestured at a chair. “Please be seated.” and he took a seat across from her indicated one.

“So what is happening?” Kenzo asked politely.

Sharah took a seat and set her bag in the chair beside her. She wasn’t her usually focused self. Though a chaos of thoughts and emotions always surrounded her, she herself was usually very singular in her own presence. Today she was all over the spectrum. “I…” she stood pacing about until she stood behind the chair, leaning on it. “I had a neurological exam today.” She pulled a PaDD from her bag. “There were some unexpected results.” She walked around the chair to pass him the PaDD. Then she returned and sat on the edge of the chair. “The scan on the left is typical of what my scans look like. The second,” she still couldn’t quite believe it, but the was a sharp note of hope racing through her, “is while I’m wearing the headband you gave me.”

She wasn’t sure if Hyrushi could read the scans, but she knew he appreciated data. She paused a moment to alliw him to look them over or indicate for her to continue.

Kenzo regarded the scans for a long moment and then said “Doctor, you will have to forgive me if I sound ignorant. I am but a common Civil Engineer… medical results are not part of my skill set. But does this show that you are getting positive feedback from wearing the device?”

Hyrushi, Governor

“I am.” He could feel her shock and excitement. Sharah walked around the coffee table so she could point out exactly what he was looking at. “Here the bright spots are the receptors activated by the Psilosynine.” It covered everything. “These dark red fuzzy spots behind it are the areas of my brain that are damaged from the immense input.” It was A LOT of damage. Not complete but constant.

“This one,” she pointed to the second image, “is the same area this morning.” The amount of brightness was the same, but the damaged areas were significantly smaller.

Sharah moved a few steps away. They wave of emotion coming off of her was quite clear and explained the slight sheen of tears on her eyes. “Kenzo. You’ve saved my life.”

Kenzo looked at her for a long moment, obsidian eyes looking directly into hers. It was a tense silence, but then he said “No. I merely sought to give you a respite. A chance to breathe. The truth is Oed saved you. It has a way of doing that for people.” and he gave her a rare smile. “But I am definitely overjoyed to see that you are doing better. Have you told the General and Nurse Crockett yet?”

Hyrushi, Governor

Sharah smiled. “Yes, Oed saved me, but without your generosity I may not have found it on my own.”

She shook her head. “No, not yet.” She hesitated. There was so much to consider. “I want to tell them at the same time. And… well I had another reason for asking to see you.”

“I wanted to tell you in person, that I am resigning from Star Fleet. There will be a new chief Medical Officer soon.” She twirled a lock of her hair a moment before stopping. “As you said, Oed saved me. I… I have a life here Kenzo. Friends, a family that … accepts me. I’m healing.”

“As you deserve, Doctor.” the Governor replied.

He was a good man, maybe others couldn’t see it the way she could. He was a deeply compassionate and passionate man. There had been rumors about the two of them that ran through the hospital after that weekend. There was nothing there for them, not like that. But Kenzo was and always would be a deeply cherished friend.

“My tour with Star Fleet is almost over. I was told if I re-upped I would be transferred somewhere else. I can’t leave.” Sharah shook her head, setting her curls dancing. “I can’t give up what I’ve gained here. I don’t know what I’ll do, but I can’t leave.”

Kenzo sat back and looked at her. He could feel her anxiety and uncertainty, but also the underlying relief that was slowly building. Obsidian eyes stared at her for a long moment, his face expressionless and his body still. It was almost an uncomfortable silence before he stood and walked to his desk. He sat down and began to type commands. Without looking up, he said “Oed V is a better place for having you here. I know I speak for a myriad and vast number of people when I say that we would all prefer you to stay.”

She didn’t expect him to be happy about her stepping down, though he was too guarded for even Sharah to sense his emotions. Kenzo cared deeply about the people he governed for. She had worked hard to help smooth the relationship between the colony and Star Fleet. She wouldn’t go as far as to say she was irreplaceable, but it would be hard. Someone new could destroy everything they had worked for. She blew out a breath, “Thank you.” It meant more because she knew Kenzo wouldn’t say it if he didn’t believe it.

He was silent a moment and then stood and walked back and sat down. “When is your Commission in Star Fleet ending?”

Hyrushi, Governor

“Five weeks. I’ve already turned in my resignation. I’m nervous, but for the first time in my life it’s a good kind of nervous. The only other people who know are Cpt McBride and my counselor. I’ve asked McBride to hold off telling anyone, so I can tell them myself.”

“And you have no plans or aspirations for the immediate future?” he asked flatly.
