The process of getting everyone’s medical information into the Oed system had taken time. Revna was slightly luckier than most of the clan. Having retired from both Star Fleet and the Diplomatic Corp, she could go to the Federation medical ward if she needed to do so. However, she’d put off doing any of the ‘minor’ check ups she knew she needed to do. It only took a few days of hard work to realize, she was not in the best of shape after her lung replacement. Her breathing was fine, but her chest hurt more than was normal for just fatigue from overwork. It would do no good to try and hide it from Mike. He was far too observant, and she wasn’t in the habit of making him worry on purpose. Runa, of course, had noticed. She had dragged Kirsten into ganging up on Revna. Kirsten saw no problems with her lungs or signs of delayed complications from the surgery. She determined that Revna simply hadn’t received the therapy she needed afterwards and made an immediate referral to see a physical therapist. So today, Revna was on her way to the center of the original Oed dome and Sacred Heart hospital.
The hospital was impressive, large, taking up a lot of real estate in the original dome, but it was a beacon of what health care should be within both the Alpha and Beta quadrants. She climbed the steps and entered the main lobby. She was given directions to the physical therapy gym and made her way down the halls and to the large gym. She stepped inside the waiting area and checked in with a receptionist behind the desk.
Revna, Lady McKenzie
It wasn’t long before a Klingon woman wearing the purple scrubs with Sacred Heart’s symbol on the left shoulder walked out the door. She turned and growled low at the person behind her who was wearing regular Klingon clothing, but was armed to the teeth. They paused on the other side of the door, but kept it open. “Revna McKenzie.” She nodded to the woman who stood and walked over to her. “Welcome, I’m Dr. Jal’na Duroc. I’ll be doing your PT evaluation today. This way.”
Revna didn’t miss the young Klingon, or the fact that he screamed of being a guard. Why would a doctor need a guard at the hospital?
The answer came a moment later as the woman introduced herself. Duroc was the Klingon house with an embassy on Oed. Then her first name registered. This was Lady Jal’na, Lord Duroc’s wife. She opted to go with the title the woman gave instead of the more formal title. The woman seemed rather aggravated with her guard. Revna knew the feeling of wanting to escape the title for a moment or more.
“It’s nice to meet you, Dr. Duroc.” Revna smiled, she couldn’t miss the swelling of the woman’s abdomen. Dr. Duroc was far too fit for it to be an indulgence in delicacies. The woman was pregnant. Revna filed that away. Klingon women tended to be more violent during their pregnancies. She wasn’t afraid of getting hurt, but it was worth being aware.
She led the woman through the gym to the far side. The gym was filled with equipment and other therapists working with their patients on various tasks and skills. “I’ve read your file, it’s been four years since your original injury, but you’ve had no proper physical therapy?”
Jal’na, Lady Duroc
“Unfortunately, that’s true,” Revna said. “I finished all my respiratory therapy before I was released from the Centurion, but my physical therapy was restricted to a holodeck program. There was no one qualified to do it. The PT on the Centurion sent me the program. I finished it, and I felt alright until we moved here.”

Jal’na made a few notes on her PaDD, “Alright so let’s start with a basic evaluation, and I will compare that with your previous records.” Jal’na brought out a set of resistance bands and looped one around a pole. “Hold either end in your hands. Raise your arms like this,” Jal’na positioned her arms similar to a chicken, “Now pull back keeping your arms bent and level, squeezing your shoulder blades together.”
“What has changed since you moved here?” she asked as she watched Revna critically.
Jal’na, Lady Duroc
The resistance of the band was easy, and Revna went through the repetitions quickly. “My husband and I moved our whole clan to Oed. It’s been a lot of work. Thousands of families, barren land, having to build everything from scratch. I didn’t realize how much strength and stamina I had lost in those years.” Revna shook her head as Jal’na gave her a different resistance band.

“Whole clan?” Jal’na let out a low rumble as she switched the bands again. “Ah you must be that House - excuse me Clan - from Earth that acquired all that land north west of the city. We have a member of our House who is from Norway. He is a member of my husband’s personal guard. He is a fierce warrior. He was quite excited when he found out so many of you were arriving.”
Jal’na, Lady Duroc
“Really? He would be welcome to visit if he likes.” Revna paused and to take a breath feeling her chest ache against the resistance. “I look forward to meeting him one day. I’m always excited to meet people to whom I share a heritage.” Another breath, but she didn’t stop. “So, you are Lady Duroc then?”
Revna, Lady McKenzie
“I will be sure to extend the invitation. He hides it, but he misses home,” Jal’na commented. “Hmmmm. Enough,” Jal’na said as she took the band. She replaced it with a lower rating and had Revna try a different exercise. “I am. Though I prefer Jal’na. The Lady title tends to get in the way. Here I am just a doctor.”
