The sun always shone a little different on OED, a gentle breeze coupled with the way light filtered through the clouds made Jordar remember how and why he came to this planet originally. He had been by back in the days of the dome, and during his stint the last time, he poured himself into his work more than he admired the beauty of the place. It was a morning shortly after settling in and rekindling an old flame that Jordar knew he had to assume his duties and was generally looking forward to the work for one of the first times in his career. A genuine enthusiasm, unlike his time in the service. Sure, he always did a good job and performed at or above standard, that is when he wasn’t talking back to superiors who he believed had slighted him…This posting was different. It wasn’t a posting at all really, he needed to get that language out of his head. He was here on his own, choosing to be a bigger part of the community he had grown to love and had missed in his absence. After resigning he had always wanted to come back and settle down, but when he was contacted about the directorship? It was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. So, as he approached the government offices, climbed the steps, and made his way to the office of the Lieutenant Governor, he did with a genuine pep in his step. He checked in with reception and proceeded to the office of one Eela Dasca, ready to pour himself into his work.
–Jordar, BaC–
On the 48th of 49 floors, Jordar would note that the layout was similar as he stepped out of the lift, but there was now a front reception desk with an office slash storage space behind, and an office to the right. Between them was an entry hallways to the Lieutenant Governor’s office.
The Napean at the desk had vibrant purple hair and greeted him with a small smile. “Hello Director Jordar, I’m Elema Sreer, one of Dasca’s assistant,” she said as she hit a button on her console.
“Thank you for the introduction, you seem to know who I am already” He replied with a nod as she hit the button and rose to lead him down towards the Lt Governor’s office.
Moving around the counter, Sreer moved down the partial hall. “If you’ll come with me.” They passed by a small meeting room (currently empty) on the right, and on the left was a slightly larger office space where a tall man with dark brown hair and a beard. Elema waved to him and he moved from his desk to the doorway, smiling at the new Director.
“Of course”
“Director Jordar, I’m Cort Belanger, Dasca’s Executive Assistant,” he said. “Most things come through me, so if you need to meet with the Lieutenant Governor at any point, call me and I’ll arrange it.”
“Thank you for the introduction” He repeated to the executive assistant as he learned the roles of each person along the way.
Once the introductions were done, Sreer opened the door, admitting them both into the large rectangular office, which took over the corner of the building and was filled with windows directly ahead and to the right. Dasca’s polished black desk was L-shaped and set in the right corner so her back was to the windows, but she could gaze out along the long side. At this time of day, when the sun was shining on this side of the building, the windows were strategically tinted to block glare on her computer screen. In front of her desk were two chairs backed by a decorative screen made of transparent glass tiles creating a mosaic of a mountainous landscape with a large waterfall. Hooked off the side of her desk was a simple black cane that nearly blended into the desk.
On the other side of the screen was a large oval table in the same black polished wood as her desk. It was set with many chairs around it that could double as a meeting space as well as a dining table. Adjacent to that in what was framed as a U-Shaped sitting nook were a large dark blue couch flanked by two light grey arm chairs nestled around an oval coffee table. It was something of an art piece, with a clear glass top and the base was a dark wood spiral that narrowed down to a round footing. Matching side tables were tucked in the ‘corners’ between the sofa and arm chairs.
Throughout the space were plants of various sizes from small trees to a living arrangement on her desk in a stone bowl. Hanging plants were strategically hung from the ceiling to take up blank space or help divide the large office into the cozier work and lounge areas. The interior walls held a couple abstract paintings in sweeping strokes and muted tones that added to the calming feel of an office that was almost always busy. Near her desk was a freestanding trellis with a trailing plant with chartreuse heart shaped leaves, edged in black with bright pink veining. One of the vines had crept down to the floor and was pointed in the direction of her chair.
Rising from her desk, Eela Dasca cut an elegant figure in a back long sleeved dress with a flared skirt with one side that opened out into soft pleated fabric in a white to red gradient. Tall low heeled boots completed the outfit. Her black hair was swept into a twist, the subtle silver streaks swirling. “Director,” she greeted with a brief bow of her head, before her warm eyes took in the man who had sat in this very office not so long ago. She gestured to the seating area. “How about we sit and have a chat?”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov
Jordar looked around the office as he entered and took position to be addressed. He understood the formality of it all having briefly been in the role himself before. The office was indeed calming yet full of life, something that he enjoyed immediately. The variety of plants made it feel more alive and welcoming, and coupled with the mosaic imparted the personality of the woman who which he would be speaking to shortly. She rose as elegantly as she were dressed, inviting him to sit and he replied with a silent nod before moving towards the table, “Of course, Lt. Governor it is good to meet you”. He said choosing his words carefully. Cultural pride was something that Jordar held very near and dear, something that his service record would show given the promotions and demotions for perceived insubordination. If he said anything it was indeed his true intent to convey such emotions or intentions, he had absolutely no place for falsehoods or politeness for its’ own sake, as his Zaladan heritage and upbringing demanded.

“I should say welcome back to Oed as well, but since I don’t know the circumstances, I don’t want to make assumptions,” Eela said as she settled into one of the grey arm chairs. One arm reached for the arm and there was a subtle whir as she settled into her seat. “But I will say that I am always happy to get to chat with former Starfleet officers, especially captains. I don’t get to do so very much these days,of which I’m sure you remember.”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
“I’m returning from a stay on Orion with my daughter. Suffice to say I’m happy to be back here, as it turns out there are really only bad crowds for a girl her age to fall into, the idea of a ‘good’ crowd doesn’t exist.” He replied as he too sat and leaned back, raising one leg to cross over the other. “As I’m sure you’ve seen in my files, I was Captain in rank rather than command. The admiralty deemed my prior history problematic, and my time in Starfleet Intelligence left little room for a ship of my own. I do remember the duties of your office well, and I’m glad that I’m no longer in your chair. Tell me about yourself Lt. Governor, what sort of ship do you run here?”
–Jordar, BaC–
She chuckled. “Well, the first thing I learned about Oed is that it doesn’t like being treated like a starship, even at the Starfleet Complex. But the other part of is that I’ve been retired for eight years now, and I’m coming at everything with a very different perspective than I might have if I was actively in Starfleet. Things are quite different now given how we had to adjust for my not being on active duty. I am more of a liaison with Starfleet Command and I work with out CO, Captain McBride, to make sure our Starfleet personnel have what they need to be effective.” Eela gestured with a loose hand. “Everything else has been a lot of adjustment on everyone’s part.”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
“It seems out lessons about this place were very similar. I too learned quickly that my experience with Starfleet Intelligence was near as makes no difference, useless for my day to day. While yes there is always subterfuge, underhanded dealings, and the always present criminal element, I found the people always welcoming, the traders and citizens willing to work on making Oed a better place, and the Starfleet presence manageable.” Jordar replied as he shifted a little, trying to get more comfortable and show that he was back with the intent to join the ranks of the citizens desiring to better the settlement. Body language could only convey so much as he looked at Eela, dropping his voice a little as he said, “My hope, Lieutenant Governor, is to raise my daughter in peace and to do good for the people here, in my capacity as Director of Buildings and Construction. My resume wasn’t a perfect fit, I’ll be the first to admit that. During my time undercover in the syndicate, I spent time for them undercover in the maintenance field, and I know that it isn’t exactly what you and the other governmental leaders were hoping for. I appreciate the opportunity to prove myself here and to serve the people, but I do ask for your grace, and your patience. I’m a quick study, and while I know the settlement follows general Federation building codes, I know that every jurisdiction is just a little bit unique, and I ask that you give me a little time to read up on the intricacies I am to face.”
–Jordar, BoC–
She offered him a sincere and compassionate smile. “Oh, I’m not one to criticize a lack of experience. But from what I know you jump in fully, so I expect no less here. Right now Oed is in flux and with a focus on the terraforming efforts, your department will become even more vital than it already is. As the colony grows we have infrastructure to have in place, in addition to housing and administrative facilities. You have your work cut out for you Director, that much I know. But then again, we all do here. And I’m very much a roll-up-my-sleeves kind of person. I want to get down to the work, so however mine and the Governor’s office can help, do let us know. We prefer open communication and honesty.”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
“Of course, I appreciate the honesty that you’ve shown me and the candor with which you speak of the situation on the colony. Given my history I too am a fan of getting my self deep into the work where necessary rather than just sitting behind a desk as a functionary, I’m glad to know that is the opinion of the government as well. Is there anything else for me?” Jordar asked with a smile on his face, happy with how the conversation itself was going and that his show of honesty and humility was met with understanding rather than contempt.
~Jordar, Director of Building and Construction~
She smiled. “Well, I prefer to get to know the members of the cabinet where I can, because we all work together so much. So if you are okay with it, I thought we could talk a bit more personal for a few minutes. If you’re not comfortable with that, that’s not a problem, we’ll all get to know each toher better as the days go on.”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
“I’m as comfortable as I’ll ever be Lieutenant Governor, please, ask what you wish.” He replied, a little nervous given his past with Starfleet Intelligence, his storied past with his daughter, and the time he had been on the colony prior.
