Having taken a brief detour to get cleaned up, Alston had come to the realization that if he was really going to take this job, he probably would need to find some more permanent accommodations on the planet. His ship worked fine for a quick stop over, but having to go all the way out to the space port and back was not really a good use of time. And there was no way he was going to be the kind of boss who made a habit of sleeping in his office. He had always hated those kinds of people.

But first, it was time he got officially introduced to the Governor. So freshly showered, with a new gray button down shirt and black slacks on under his leather jacket, he stepped off the lift on the top floor of the Government Tower, at the offices for the Governor. It seemed like Mr. Reilly did work fast though as he was ushered through security with barely a look at his credentials, he was really going to have to take a look at what sort of security plan they had set-up around the colony at some point.

The first thing he noticed as he stepped off the lift was the change in guards. Gone were the usual CCDA security detail, instead they were replaced with private security. Dressed in suits, and if he was not mistaken, quite well armed. That was definitely a shift he was going to have keep an eye on in the future, and not one he quite expected. Including a deeper dive into who exactly the Governor of the colony was, more so then what was easily accessed with is previously limited credentials.

With a nod to the guards he stepped forward to the desk situated right in front of the lift.

“Excuse me, I was wondering if the Governor was currently in.”

The woman behind the desk smiled a friendly smile. She was indeed striking in appearance: a human with obvious Asian ancestry and vivid red hair. She stood up and said “Director Mace, of course.” She put her hand on her chest and said “Dorma Fen, the Governor’s Aid. The Governor insisted I know you on sight.” She looked at the large double doors that led into the Governor’s office. “He is on a conference call at the moment.” and she looked at Mace. “But I will let him know you wish to see him.” and she tapped a few icons on her desk interface. A moment later, the doors swung out and open.

Alston winced slightly. Being recognized that quickly was definitely not helping his ego in thinking he could lay low for a little bit. With a small nod he stepped back to wait.

The room was very large, with a white tile floor, and consisted of two walls of floor to ceiling windows lining the left side and the wall facing the doors. The right wall was a white masonry of some kind for half of the length of the room; and the masonry section was set in from the windows of the far right corner, with a large fireplace in front of a seating area. In the far left corner of the room, a desk sat in the corner of the room made of the two walls of windows. The desk sat on a raised section of the room with three large steps leading up to it, and there were three chairs in front of it. Seated at the desk was the Governor, a striking Asian man with full jet black eyes dressed in a tastefully tailored gray suit.

As Mace entered, the Governor stood up. “Director Mace. Please, do have a seat. I must say I was not expecting a visit from you so soon. To what do I owe the pleasure?” and the Governor sat as his ‘guest’ did.

Alston let out a low whistle as he took in the office. He wasn’t exactly short on funds himself. His skills typically commanded a nice paycheck each job, and he had the luxury to be picky in what jobs he did pick up. But this, this was on a whole different level. He made a mental note to review some more in depth files on the colony, because apparently there was more going on here then in the higher level overviews.

Finally making it over to the desk, Alston sat down in the offered seat. “Thank you for seeing me Governor.

“Well I just left a meeting with Mr. Reilly. He mentioned that since I finally acquiesced to his request to take on this role, that you were wanting to meet with me. So while I left him to gather a mountain of paperwork for me to go through, I figured now was as good as time as any to meet the big boss.”

Hyrushi nodded and said “I applaud your desire to take on the job. The CIA is very new, but has proven itself quite adept so far. I took Mr. Reilly’s recommendation of you seriously. In fact, when I asked him to provide me a list of those he believed would provide the sort of leadership we need for the organization; his list was exactly one name long.” He looked at Mace for a long moment, his obsidian eyes showing no hi t of the thoughts behind them. “So why did you take the job?”

Alston raised an eyebrow at that comment. He hadn’t exactly been known for playing by the rules, so he was surprised that his name had floated to the top of the list. But if they were looking for someone more unconventional, that was what they were going to get.

“What would you like to hear? That it was the money? Or the passionate speech about needing to stick up for the little guy? But honestly, it was fun getting back into the field, and having more of a hands on approach. It’s something that I’d never get with another agency. And getting a chance to stick it to Starfleet, well that is sort of icing on the cake,” he said with a smirk.

“You will find no shortage of those who hold similar opinions on OED, Director.” Hyrushi said flatly. “But I will caution you against public statements of the like. So far, the Federation has taken a neutral approach to our message to them some weeks ago. I, however, harbor no delusion that there are those who want nothing more than to see OED go back to its old way of governance: They tell OED what to do, and we just do it.” Hyrushi steepled his finger tips together and added “And that is not an expectation or desire I care to entertain.”
