All things considered, Eela was in a pretty good mood after getting back from the hospital. Her back was doing alright, though she was keeping the cane on hand, and the conversation with the volunteer coordinator had buoyed her. The reality was that she had been thinking about doing something that wasn’t ‘work’ for awhile now. Something for her. Giving some care to NICU babies just fit in so many ways, especially right now as she was carefully unravelling the threads of her life. Examining that painful time after her parents died and she had given birth to Jourin prematurely was an important one. She wouldn’t bring that into the NICU, but having clarity around her own experience it would help her remember what those parents might need in terms of support. As she stepped back into her penthouse, Eela exhaled a deep breath and pulled out the hairpins that held her grey scarf in place, and unwrapped the head covering. Grabbing some water and making some herbal tea, Eela grabbed a novel and a poetry book and went out onto her patio to rest awhile before Kenzo arrived.

The door slid open a few minutes later and Kenzo walked in. “Good afternoon.” he said in way of announcing his arrival. “The guards let me in.” He was carrying two small containers called ‘Bento Boxes’ and a small chiller; and he made his way to the patio. He set the boxes on the table in front of Eela and said “What to drink?” as he took his seat and opened the chiller. “We have juice, water, tea, some kind of iced coffee that Ms. Dasca insisted you try, and a fruit smoothie that she made as well.”

While she had instigated the somewhat open-door policy out of necessity, Eela had to admit that it reminded her of her maternal grandparent’s home. Halenia and Dokoren had always had people coming to and fro. At least before when Eela had been young. It had changed a little as they had gotten older and her grandfather had become mayor of the village they had lived in their whole lives. After that, well, no one could blame them for wanting a modicum of privacy.
As Kenzos stepped into the patio, she smirked a little at the ease in which her guests arrived into her home and also that yes indeed he had brought lunch. Her amusement and nostalgic fondness tinged the warmth she exudes towards him. “Well, I know better than to deny Ms. Fen the satisfaction of being right so iced coffee and a fruit smoothie sound wonderful.”
Kenzo opened the chiller and pulled out two insulated tumblers. “Coffee… and smoothie.” he said as he set the drink containers on the table next to her.
Eela went for the iced coffee first (she was at least predictable that way)
Sitting under the pergola in the square sitting area, her patio was full of life that she had cultivated both on her own and with help. Pollinating bots took care of making sure that she got produce and seeds from the various plants, but more than that she could feel how much of a sanctuary this outdoor space was. It was the one place that nothing else could mar.
On the table beside the old book of Haliian poetry was a set of graphite pencils and a sketch pad. There was a loose sketch of the vista before her that overlooked Oed’s city core. She wasn’t as high up as Kenzo’s place but she loved her view into the business and government district, the glimpse of Sloan Sqare she could get from the other corner of the patio near her bedroom window.
“I had my anti-grav session this morning. It felt good actually, and I’ll probably go back for a couple more. Jal’na doesn’t think I will need continuous sessions, thankfully.”

“Thats good.” Kenzo said as he took a seat on the lounger next to Eela. “I’m happy to hear that all of the… events… have not left a more serious physical impact on you.”
Kenzo
He wasn’t wrong, but he wasn’t entirely right either. Eela nodded. “I should be back to how I was within a few days.” For now. She almost stopped that errant thought from traipsing through her mind but instead she let it exist.
She sipped her coffee and her brown lifted at the same time as the corners of her mouth tugged upwards. “Ms. Fen seems to have me figured out. I wonder if I can even surprise her at this point.” Eela snorted. She was hardly predictable but the reality was that those in her inner circle certainly could anticipate her need for variety, surprise and intrigue.
“The coffee has an interesting kick. And it’s just perfectly sweet.”
