The image of Katrina fizzled for a moment as she inclined her head. “It depends on your perspective of ok. My programming was not designed to be long serving. I’m a copy of my original programming. I was given 24 hours of service after being copied before my program deactivates permanently.”

“Do you have any further inquiries?” she asked, unaffected by the fact she would effectively ‘die’ soon.

“I don’t know, honestly,” Ylana said, surprised at the revelation but very quickly the question came to her. “Their physiology. Can you tell me about that and their abilities?” She needed to get a grasp on how Leamas might go after her and what her options for defence were.

Katrina nodded. “The Kaldonians are a race of non-corporeals with the ability to become corporeal should the need arise. They are exceptionally dependent on radiogenic particles in order to live. Much like humans requiring water. The particles are used not only for continual living, but for the ability to become corporeal. As that ability requires much of their reserves, many Kaldonians go their whole lives without becoming corporeal at all.

“Kaldonians also have strong psionic abilities ranging from mere empathy to, in extreme cases, telekinesis.

“Kaldonians also have the ability to change form as needed. Their original bodies appear to corporeals as orbs of light.

“Kaldonians have an ‘allergy’ to dilithium crystals. When close to dilithium, Kaldodonians are weakened and their abilities are slowed down significantly. Proper precautions can be taken to keep a Kaldonian safe on starships where dilithium crystals are used for warp.”

The image of Katrina flickered again when she paused, awaiting further questions.

Okay, now they were getting somewhere. But she also had so many more questions. “How much longer do we have Katrina? Can you tell me about familial structures? Is there any? Or is there any sort of hierarchy or formal government?”
