The officer nodded and tapped their commbadge. =/\=Talis to Sh’Trilo. I need cover on the perimeter. I’ll be inside discussing building security.=/\=
=/\=Acknowledged. In place… now.=/\=
Talis moved around the modern and clean styled building and through the front door. Immediately visible was the security desk set to the left in the large open lobby. From there, one could see the sets of lifts, with one set farther at the back on its own. To the right was a hallway and large windows that showed a glimpse of a pool.
Talis moved to the security desk where a Human-appearing ensign was sat. “We’re going to go to the back room. Sh’Trilo is on perimeter watch.” The ensign nodded.
They moved down the hallway and there was a door with a highly secured access. Talis used both a code and retinal scan to gain access and led Mace inside. It was a small office that served as a break room as well as a control room. They pulled over a chair and sat. “Okay, hit me with your questions.”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Alston grimaced as he was led through the secure door without even a glance at an ID. Not that Starfleet wouldn’t have his information on file after his service time, but that it had been updated that quickly with his new credentials. Maybe it wasn’t too late to get out of this job.
“What do you know about a recent delivery to Captain Dasca’s personnel residence that had, let’s say, an unwanted visitor accompanying it?” Alston asked as he snagged another chair. Spinning it around he sat in it backwards, arms crossed across the top of the chair back.
- Mace
“We know of the incident in question. But it was handled by her personal security, which are CCDA agents. You’d have to ask them specifically about the delivery itself, but it did come through us first. However, it had been through several screenings prior, that we know of, and so our basic scan has generally been deemed sufficient. We do know that the specialized tech was designed to bypass those screenings so going forward we will have stricter protocols.”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
“I do plan to talk to them after we finish,” Alston said sitting up right long enough to pull the padd out of his pocket and make a few notes.
“So you are saying that it was standard policy that because these items had already gone through screenings off site that they didn’t require anything more then a basic pass over?” Finishing his note Alston looked up at the officer and waited to see how he’d respond.
- Mace
“Correct. It’s been the set policy for several years, because deliveries to the Lieutenant Governor’s residence are already sealed and confirming their safety. The cases brought through here are all vetted. Given that it’s gone through several deep checks before it’s arrival, we do a final scan and ensure there’s been no tampering and it is sent up. This is the first incident we’ve had,” Talis said.
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Alston schooled his poker face, that was not exactly the response he was expecting. Was there a reason why Starfleet was passing off the responsibility for this issue?
“Do you have a copy of the scan from the case in question still by chance? And in your opinion, could the bug have been placed on the case prior to it arriving here?”
- Mace
“We do,” Talis said. “But no, the bug was placed somewhere between the case being assembled at customs and delivery to the LG. Keep in mind that the contents were personal items ordered by the LG and grouped together. She suggested it herself given that the items trickled in over a period of a week. It was just easier for everyone to hold the individual items and them package them. The secure cases are standard practice here for deliveries of smaller items to VIP persons.”
Talis swivelled in his chair and logged into the console behind him. He took a minute to pull up the requisite file that was sent over after the incident and sent them through the secure law enforcement channel to Mace. “Okay, you have the scan. You’ll note that nothing comes up for unusual materials. The burst transmitter was seemingly designed to blend into its surroundings. Though, that being said, clearly something slipped through the cracks if the case with the transmitter made it up to her home.”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Alston nodded as he saw the message pop up on his screen. He marked it to review later.
“Thank you for that. Do you have any clues, ideas, or guesses on who might have wanted to bug the Lieutenant Governor?”
- Mace
He shook his head. “No, I don’t. I mean other than the fact that she’s a powerful person on the planet and made waves from the moment she got here. But you already know that. To be honest, as far as her home goes, we’re here to secure the surroundings. The CCDA are her personal security. They’ll know a lot more than we will. The question really then becomes, is the threat coming from a civilian angle, or a Starfleet one? I’m just a junior officer, so the answer to that is far above my work and I honestly couldn’t tell you.”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
“Unfortunately I believe the answer to that question does come at my pay level,” Alston said tucking his Padd back into the inside pocket of his jacket. “I’m actually hoping to talk to the leader of the CCDA detail after we finish here. But is there anything else I should know of? I think we can agree the last thing we need is for anything to further compromise the security of the Lieutenant Governor, or any of the Colony or Starfleet staff here.”
