Player-run SIMs - PRSIMs

PRSIMs are ‘Mini-sim’s that are run by one player, who has to be an active and rostered member of Oed for at least three months. This player is responsible for his PRISM.

• They have to be designed to last approximately for FIVE months, for the PRSIM Period. The exact period is announced on the MOTD of Oed.
• With the end of the PRSIM Period all PRSIMs have to be finished. If they are not quite finished, a summary end-of-sim post can be written to give them a suitable closure. (Guidelines for writing summary end-of-sim posts will be given soon)
• With each new PRSIM Period, new PRSIMs start out.
• The Governor and Lt. Governor decide which PRSIMs are being run. They have to fit not only together, but also into the overall continuity and long-term story line of Oed. They can not contradict each other or have other illogical elements.
• Therefore, every player who wants to run a PRSIM in the next PRSIM period has to outline his PRSIM idea and send it in to the Governor and Lt. Governor before the PRSIM deadline (announced on the MOTD)
• After the evaluation period, the Governor and Lt. Governor will announce on the MOTD which PRSIMs are run and by whom. There will be a short summary linked for each PRSIM and the player who is responsible for it. In that way, other players can have a look at them and decide whether they want to join into the action of this PRSIM.
• If a player wants to join in on a PRSIM, he can have a look at the story lines of the PRSIMs linked on the MOTD and contact the player who is responsible for each to ask him/her how they can get into this PRSIM in a way that makes sense.
• It is NOT allowed to force players to participate in your PRSIM!

Example: If you play a crime you can not force the Chief of Police to join your PRSIM to solve it. If you need certain player characters in your PRSIM, you have to ask them if they want to participate BEFORE you suggest your PRSIM to the Governor/Lt. Governor.

If the player you need does not want to join your PRSIM, you need to play an NE in his/her stead. This NE can not have the same position though. In our example, the NE would not be the Police Chief, but simply, a Police Detective NE.

Q. I want to run a PRSIM that lasts longer than 5 months, can I do that?
A. Yes you can. You just need to split it up into chapters. Each chapter should take about 5 months and be finished at the end of the PRSIM period with a summary post. For the next PRSIM Period, you can start the next chapter.

Q. Do I have the same rights as a proper GM when I run a PRSIM?
A. No you don’t. You can not void posts or destroy/bomb/burn Oed facilities or Starfleet Installations or ships without the previous agreement of the Governor / Lt. Governor. If you run into a dispute of some sort, you need to raise this with the Governor/Lt. Governor, just like you would usually do.

Q. I joined Oed in the middle of a PRSIM period, what can I do?
A. You can still do normal character development threads as you usually would. Examples: As an SF Officer you can get your physical exam and report for duty, as a Cabinet member, you can meet with the Governor/Lt. Governor, you can move into your new house/flat, etc…
You can also have a look at all PRSIMs currently running (they will be linked on the MOTD of Oed) and ask the player who runs them how to best join in to one that strikes your fancy.

Q. Do I have to join a PRSIM at all?
A. No you don’t have to. You can also do only character development threads with other players. But you have to stay within AWOL limits by posting pro-actively.

Q. What is the difference between a character development thread and a PRSIM?
A. Character development threads are IC actions or conversations you do with other characters and they help define your character further. Like for example a love affair or a joint trip to the casino to have some fun.
A PRSIM or in general a SIM (SIMulation) is when you make things happen for yourself and other characters, so when you write not as your character, but as a GM would:
“Suddenly a strange man bumped into them and stole their bags, running away quickly.” or “They discovered a vast cave system under the city of Oed and decided to set about exploring it.”

Q. Why do I have to suggest and ask for permission to run a PRSIM?
A. Because we have to make sure it fits. In order for all players on Oed to have fun and also a sense of continuity and stability on Oed, we have to check the PRSIM ideas for the following:
- Does it make sense (as in the example above, there is no cave system under the city of Oed)
- Does it work with the other PRSIM ideas (we can’t have two PRSIMs that involve the deployment of the USS Centurion, if there are two ideas for this, they can possibly work together)
- Does it fit into the long-term story line of Oed (we have wanted for a long time to build a second dome, but that would require a cooperation of more characters over several PRSIM periods)

By coordinating this and by writing the continuous story lines of Oed into the CO log, we can effectively develop the story of Oed further and give players a sense of stability and continuity that makes their character’s development worth while.
