“I would be honoured to be included. It will be good to be a student and learn again.” Braak looked around the museum. “I would like to explore the exhibits. I am most curious to see how the colony views their own history.” He was quite aware that there would be something on the raids, but how they described it was of great interest.

“I believe that we are always students if we are brave enough to admit it.” She grinned, “and even the smallest can teach.” She looked around the crowd, “The exhibits are open. I am sure the curator would be happy to know that you toured them. Is there anything in particular you would like to see? I’d be happy to show you.”

The Vren studied Karina for a moment, debating what would be appropriate in this case. “I wish to understand how the colony sees itself, its plights. If we are to find true peace between our peoples, mine must understand beyond simply speaking words, what past actions have had. Your leaders speak of starting anew, and I agree, but that cannot happen unless we face those past actions, see them beyond the grievances they were for us.”

Karina nodded, “Ah, then we want the pre-comet strike exhibit. This way if you like.” She waved toward one of the doors leading to another wing of the museum. She knew that security would be watching and all over the museum, inside and out. She was sure the Vren’s guards would be watching as well.

Away from all the eyes simultaneously watching the Vren contingent’s actions simultaneously, the Cultural Attaché seemed to almost relax a bit, his muscular strides becoming a bit more loose. His eyes of course could see in 360-degrees and in an expanding range, so while it might have seemed like he was focused ahead of him, Braak was taking in the entire museum and all the details. “Have you lived on Oed a long time?” he asked Enger.

~Braak Sy’rt, Vren Cultural Attaché

“Two and a half years. Before that I worked across the quadrant as a teacher. I came here to take the director’s position. It is a lot of work, but I have never regretted it. And yourself? What brought you to study cultures?”

“I don’t… exactly, or at least not in the way you might think. I’m an artist. We Vren highly value artistic endeavours. But… I, along with other like me want to branch out and do new kinds of art. Stuff that the old guard thinks is terrible for our society, that they think will cost us our traditions. I disagree. And so does Ambassador Kek. He asked me to be a part of this because he thinks my stance has value and should not be hidden away. I think there are lovely things about our culture, Miss Enger, and I’m happy to be here to share them. To hopefully help you all see we’re not so different, not really. And maybe we can convince the older generation of that too.”

“Traditions are important, but change is inevitable.” She nodded to a museum attendant as they passed. “We have many art galleries here and even more artisans, with their own shops. I think as we get to know each other, we will find that we are very similar.”

She turned into one of the galleries. “This whole area is about the colony before the comet strike.” She was quiet while he looked.

Braak stepped in and moved to the displays. He couldn’t read the language as perfectly as he would have liked, but he got enough to get the gist. “What is your perception of our arrival? I’m curious what you think the colony truly feels about it all? The Governor made a wonderful speech, but that’s the job of a leader. Do you think your fellow colonists believe in it?”

~Braak Sy’rt, Vren Cultural Attaché

Karina took a deep breath. “It is mixed. People who have been here for a long time are cautious. Those who weren’t here then are willing to try. To see what happens. They know that the actions of a few do not always represent the whole they are willing to wait and see.”

Enger, DOE

Sy’rt gave a bob of his head that served as a nod. “It is hard. I cannot say the caution isn’t warranted- we did attack this world on numerous occasions. And sometimes the vocal minority on our world likes to think they have more say than they do. But I am optimistic, in my own way.” He let out a squeal/whistle that was something of a laugh.

He stopped and read through one of the displays outlining one of the attacks, the biggest one actually. “I saw you with the children. Do you work with them a lot or was this just a special instance?”

~Braak Sy’rt, Vren Cultural Attaché

Enger smiled slightly. “Yes and no. I am not with them teaching as much as I used to do. Now my job is mostly administrative, but I spend as much time in the schools and with the children as possible. This particular instance was all their idea. They came to me and the governor and asked to prepare a welcome for the delegation.”

“Youth have many interesting ways of seeing the word around them do they not? I like working with them myself. Art workshops,” Braak said, moving along to the next and slightly less depressing display.

~Braak Sy’rt, Vren Cultural Attaché

Karina smiled slightly, “They do indeed.” She allowed him tightly look at the display without interruption for a moment. “Would you possibly be interested in doing an Art Workshop here?”
