Séan took a big bite of his burger and so was unable to answer Jon at first. He chewed his food and savored the flavor a bit before he took a sip of his drink to clear his throat. “I like to go for jogs. Mostly to familiarize myself with the new environment but also to keep active. Counseling tends to be a rather sedentary profession and I’d likely weigh four hundred pounds if I didn’t stay active.”

Jon grinned. “It’s fortunate that Starfleet requires us to maintain a certain fitness level, though I definitely have to force myself to get out of the office more. I could go for walkabouts more when I was on the D’hjty but now the sheer size of the contingent under my command makes morning rounds a little prohibitive.”

Séan nodded in acknowledgement. “I was once new to a ship that had just been through a traumatic dimensional event and their return to our dimension had most if not all of the crew requiring counseling. I barely had time for sleep but everyone needed help. Luckily we were at a starbase and additional counselors were eventually provided to help, but it reminded me of an adage my mentor used to tell me. ‘The body is vital for your well-being. The mind follows the lead of the body. If the body is in disarray so then is the mind. Take the time to make sure the body is in order and it will benefit every aspect of your being.’ Even when I was running on fumes I would take an hour to workout before bed and I would sleep better and be more rested to start the next day more or less fresh. Coffee really helped too though.”

McBride laughed. “Ahh yes, the drink of the gods. I love a good drink after hours, but coffee is that strange necessary evil I can’t live without.” He ate a bit more of his fish.
“I’m still figuring out Oed’s recreational opportunities, but after things settle with the Vren I think I want to do some hiking. I prefer more intense sports, but the landscape does have its limitations. Though, I suppose there are the holodecks at the Complex.”

“I was just told of a martial arts gym that I have plans to visit with someone. If I’m impressed by what they have to offer I’ll get back to you and see if you’d like to tag along for my next visit. How are your hand to hand skills Jon? Could they use a little refreshing?” Séan asked with a mischievous grin.
Counselor Iven
He chuckled. “Well, I keep up my skill just like anyone, but I’m always up for some sparring. Never hurts. Though that reminds me that I should check out what the pilots are up to. It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to do any real flying and Oed has plenty of space. That’s if they let me. They might consider the captain’s pips a barrier to entry,” he said with a laugh.
Captain McBride, Starfleet CO
“That sounds like a great idea,” Séan responded. “And as for your piloting skills, I’m sure you could find a way to slip into the cockpit without causing too much of a commotion. Perhaps a friendly wager or challenge with one of the pilots? But I agree, sparring is an excellent way to blow off steam and stay sharp physically. I try to spar as often as I can find a partner. I can be a bit intimidating though so sadly it isn’t that often. Definitely let me know how your flying endeavors go.”
Counselor Iven
Jonathan cast a curious glance at Iven. “Do you fly? Other than standard shuttle piloting, of course.” He had a funny little idea filtering through his brain and in all truth it seemed like it could be fun. Or trouble. Or both! It was hard to say as Oed was a quirky beast of a planet.

Séan looked over at Jon. He finished chewing and swallowing the food in his mouth before he responded. “I did a bit of fighter piloting in the academy but I haven’t touched the controls of anything since, so I am very rusty. Why? What do you have in mind?”
Counselor Iven
McBride’s eyes glinted with nothing short of mischief and he pushed his cider away, having only had a quarter of it. “Don’t drink any more and we’ll be clear, and eat up, we’ll need energy to fuel our brains.” He leaned towards Séan. “What would you to say to being my flight officer? We’ll keep it lower-key with the older model Ranger-class or something like that. We won’t need a weapons officer, so can manage with the two of us. All the rest of the Starfleet fighters are single-seat. So unless you feel up to testing a Comp or Templar on your own, I think this would be better.”
Captain McBride, Starfleet CO
Séan likewise pushed his stout away. “I would be game to give that a go. I’m not confident of doing anything too exciting solo. I think whatever you are planning sounds fun.”
Counselor Iven
“Fantastic! Eat up. We’re going to need our wits about us,” he said as he delved back into his fish and chips.
Once they were finished their food, McBride settled up the bill with Dionne, insisting on paying for Iven’s as well.
Stepping out into the crisp evening air, there was an excited bounce in Jonathan’s step.
