She was early for her meeting, which almost never happened these days, especially now that the Vren were here. It seemed every minute of every hour was accounted for, even when she was supposed to have downtime. However, tomorrow was Saturday, and though she had the gala in the evening, she had been adamant about having her ritual morning wander through the farmer’s market. In the expansive central courtyard, Eela sat under the shade of a thin trunked but wide-canopied tree with her leather work bag at her side. Since she was within the complex itself, her security was not with her, and it was one of the rare times she was unaccompanied outside her home or the Tower. Still dressed from the Vren earlier, she wore a rich purple sheath dress with a half collar and batwing cape that covered just her shoulders and upper arms. Legs crossed at the knee, she tapped a PADD against her thigh, her face set in a frown.
She was overjoyed to have Caridee and Kian here, but the reality of her daughter’s presence had hit hard sitting in Kenzo’s office. They were tiptoeing around it, and like the good therapists they both were, they knew when and when not to push a topic. That had not been the time to dig into anything, but the undercurrent of events with Cory had sent a complicated and emotional wake through the family members and it was something that would not be easy to reconcile.
Hell, even allowing it to come to mind right now was a dangerous action. There was too much else going on and she had to many things she was juggling. Could she handle one more? As that thought crept into her brain, the overwhelm swept over her. She tried to push it back and down deep where it was safer, but it just wouldn’t cooperate. Tears stung her eyes and she tilted her head upwards as if that might stop it. Damn it! Not now, not today. Ugh!

“Ma’am, is everything alright?”
Alston had been passing through the courtyard on his way out of the building. He had stopped by for an official visit, but now that business was complete, he still had an investigation to conclude. But as he was passing through he couldn’t help but notice something looked to be upsetting Dasca.

It was a testament to how distracted she was that Dasca didn’t even sense him approaching and was even caught off guard in the first place. It was uncharacteristic of her to be so unaware in public, but something about having had to be on for the Vren arrival and then dealing with her family’s arrival had left her in need of a reprieve. She should have picked her spot better.
She shifted her gaze downwards, turning her head to look at the intruder. It was Mace. Well, she supposed that wasn’t the most terrible thing. Worse would have ben some random young ensign hoping to help out the Commander-in-Chief. “No,” she said with a light laugh. “But if it were, we’d be on a different planet.”
Séan was on his way to lunch after having checked to see if Mika was going to join him, as it was their routine at this point. Paperwork and preparing for diplomatic functions had her detained, so he was solo on this occasion. He too saw the distressed Eela and recognition dawned on him as she was a newly assigned patient into his care. Thoughts of lunch quickly left his mind as he made his way over to stand near the other man.
He gave the man a cordial nod before he focused his attention back on Eela. “Captain Dasca?” He said softly while trying to provide a sense of peace and calm. He had read that she was telepathic but he wasn’t sure to what extent, so if she were to read his surface emotions it may very well feel like a warm day at the beach with a gentle breeze blowing through one’s hair.
Counselor Iven
She pulled breath into her lungs and slowly let it out. Eela gave the two men a small, if weary, smile. “You know, every now and again, for brief moments, I forget that I am always watched. It should bother me, but I guess I’m just used to it at this point.” Dacsa shook her head and gazed at Mace. “I am as fine as I can be given the chaotic flurry that my life is. But don’t worry, I’ve got this,” she said with a wink, her confidence having easily slipped back into the mix.
Dacsa shifted her attention to Iven. “Lieutenant, I don’t think we’ve met formally yet.”

“Ah, but if people remembered just how often that they were being watched, it would make some jobs a whole lot harder,” Alston said with a chuckle. After a moment he met Dasca’s eyes. While she showed confidence at the moment, he could see that the mask was only so deep. But at the moment it seemed like she was not needing or wanting the extra attention, and given his current position, he was more then willing to give it to her. This time.
With a nod, Alston broke eye contact, and pushed a smile onto his face. “In that case,” he said reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small linen business, “if I can ever be of any service, feel free to contact me.” He offered the card to her.
It was something he had picked up back when he was first starting his ‘trading’ business, a touch that his wealthier clientele appreciated. The card itself was very simple. Solid black, with the white outline of a fox on one side, and a comm frequency for a private messaging service on the reverse. In a digital world, something tangible had served him well.
“Captain,” he said with one last nod before continuing on his path out of the courtyard.
