“This is a high stress time for everyone, Mrs. Woods. Anger, apprehension, resentment are normal. However, this isn’t the first time Josh has been in a fight that he instigated.” He looked between mother and son. “I am within the rules of the school to suspend him. I don’t want to do that. I am willing to do a probation if Josh is enrolled in anger management or some other type of self control discipline and he attends regularly and makes improvements.”

Headmaster Ch’zaahril

Mrs. Woods nodded and looked to her son. “I don’t think that’s too much to ask at all, do you?”
Josh was quiet for a moment before he shook his head. “No, ma’am.”
She looked back at the headmaster. “Again, I’m very sorry about all this, Headmaster. I hope when I say that this won’t happen again, it will be true.”

“I hope so as well,” Ch’zaahril said. “I am by no means the person to say that fighting, standing up for what is right is never called for,” the reputation of Andorian’s for their codes of honor and defense of them was well known, “But there are always other options to explore first. Antagonizing a person purposely and bullying is never okay.” The headmaster took a breath. “As always, a cooling off period is required. Josh you will be expected to attend your classes virtually and can return to school on Monday. We will discuss the specifics of your probation then.” He stood and went to the door calling the secretary over. “Josh, go with Ms. Kilby and get your things.” When they left he looked at Mrs Woods. “If I might speak with you a moment?”

Headmaster Ch’zaahril

“Of course,” she said watching her son leave before she turned back to Ch’zaahril. “Is there something more?” she asked, worry setting into her eyes. Though JOsh wasn’t getting a suspension she was aware that he might be running out of chances.

“I do not want to speak out of turn, but Josh expressed deep concern specifically for you, past events, and the current state of things. It is not easy. Children, even teenagers, have trouble expressing the feelings that swirl about within them. I thought you should know what might be driving this current outburst.”

Headmaster Ch’zaahril

Conflict warred in her eyes before she dropped her gaze. “Despite how it might seem sometimes, Joshua can be a sensitive person. He always was when he was small. But these days I don’t know how to reach him. He won’t talk to me when things are bothering him and I’ve had to accept that as a teenager maybe he never will.” She looked back up. “I hate that he’s taking it all out on people here, and I am truly sorry for that.” Mrs. Woods sighed. “I will try and walk with him about it, but I can’t guarantee he’ll open up to me. But I don’t know what else to do.”

Ch’zaahril nodded, “He is still a very sensitive person. It’s obvious to all of us here. Perhaps he doesn’t know what to do with all he is feeling and that is why he has these outbursts? I am not a counselor though. Perhaps you and your husband might consider having him meet with one of the counselors at Sacred Heart. The school counselors are always open to anyone in your family. However, Josh has had to see them many times for his behavior. It might be good for him to be able to speak to someone who is more of a neutral party? Sometimes teenagers will tell someone outside their family what is wrong.”

Headmaster Ch’zaahril

Mrs. Woods nodded. “I can look into it. Maybe a little family counselling too wouldn’t be out of the question if other things are impacting him.” She rose to her feet, her expression apologetic. “I hate that this has happened, and I don’t know the protocols, but if you could extend my sincerest apologies to the Ambassador and her family, I would be grateful. And… thank you for not giving up on Joshua. You were well within your right to suspend him fully, or worse. He’s a good kid underneath. Hopefully we can pull him out again.”

Ch’zaahril nodded and offered his hand. “I believe if we are all more stubborn and patient than him, he will. We will meet again next week about his probation. In the mean time my office is open if you need anything.”

Headmaster Ch’zaahril

Mrs. Woods nodded and shook his hand. “Thank you, Headmaster. I appreciate you taking the extra time to talk with me. We’ll see you next week.” She then left to go collect her wayward son.
