Jessie was not one to fight, but he was so mad right now! And just fed up with it all. But he also wasn’t stupid. Even as Josh tried to reach for him, the fight in Jessie faded as he took in the Klingon and Nausican. He held up his hands and tried to break free. “Just let me go. I don’t even want anything to do with this jackass.”
“Go ahead and keep it up, Mathis. Just you wait,” Josh said, wiping blood from his nose.
Jessie wasn’t all that much better as it looked like several of Josh’s punches landed, including one right at his left eye. He rubbed his chin. “You’re such a coward. You’re not even worth it,” he growled.
Josh lunged towards Jessie, forgetting he was being held back. Jessie tried to take a step back, only to back into the broad form of Ghampeg.

Kupi grabbed for Josh in a bear hug that, despite how mad he was, Josh couldn’t get out of. Ghampeq set a hand on Jessie’s shoulder. One to steady him and two to steady him. “He’s not worth it,” the Klingon confirmed and there was muttered agreement from those near-by.
Jessie seemed to deflate a little at Ghampeq’s touch, but he now had a bit of a dilemma. He wanted desperately to just run out of the building, but everyone was watching. And for the first moment since Josh had gotten in his face, he regretted throwing the first punch. But only a little. A very, very tiny bit.
“Enough.” said a sharp and wholly unmistakable voice.
At the crack of that voice, Kupi and Ghampeq stepped back from the two other boys. They knew better than to try and slip back into the crowd. They’d already been seen and it would be in their worst interest to try and slink off.
High Schoolers
Mrs. Falway had been a teacher at the high school as long as anyone could remember. A diminutive Aqellian woman, she was a personality that few dared contradict. In her time at the school she had garnered a reputation as a stern, strict, and uncompromising teacher who expected… nay… demanded… the best from each pupil. Her history and civics classes were the hardest in the school; but those that did well in them tended to do very well in academics at higher levels. She had taught future politicians, Star Fleet Officers, CEOs, and even a celebrity or two. And everyone, student and faculty alike, either respected or feared her.
Usually both.
“You two.” she commanded with a pointed finger at Jesse and Josh. “Explain.”
Mrs. Falway
“He started it,” Jessie muttered. It was petulant and childish, for sure, but it was also true. The anger swirled around again and Jessie lifted his head, the bruise around his eye seeming to get bigger by the minute. “He’s been in my face since I got here and I only just started at this school.”
“He hit me!” Josh said, furious for a whole lot of reasons.
“I got tired of his crap and when he went on insulting my mother, I hit him.” Jessie shrugged.

Mrs. Falway arched an eyebrow at Jessie, but turned and looked at Josh. “Mr. Grant. This is not the first time you and I have had a discussion about your attitude towards new students, is it?” She didn’t wait for an answer, holding a single finger and silencing the protest before it started. “I told you that someday your penchant for trying to exert power over others would get you into trouble. Today it did.” She looked at Ghampeq and said “Ghampeq of House Duroc, I charge you with escorting Mr. Grant to the Headmaster’s office and ensuring he speaks to no one on the way.” Ghampeq slammed a fist on his chest in the manner taught to him by mother when being addressed by a superior. He dropped a hand on Josh’s shoulder and steered him away.
Mrs. Falway looked at Jessie and said “I do not know you, young man. But my first impression is… wanting. Come with me. We will contact your parents from the office. Once the Headmaster is done with Mr. Grant, they will deal with you. Come.” and she simply turned and started walking with every expectation that he follow.
Mrs. Falway
On some level Jessie knew that getting into a fight wouldn’t just be brushed under the rug, but somewhere along the line he forgot that his parent’s would actually have to get involved in all of this. Crap!
Rubbing his chin again, Jessie followed, but more more subdued and sullen than earlier.

Mrs. Falway led Jessie down the hall and they came to a restroom. “Inside. Clean yourself up, young man. Two minutes.”
Mrs. Falway
“Yes, Ma’am,” he said softly and stepped inside. Studying himself in the mirror, Jessie sighed. He was hoping it wasn’t as bad as it felt, but nope, it looked even worse. He splashed water on his face and dapped at the small cut through his eyebrow. He briefly wondered who would end up coming down to the school. Per wasn’t less strict, but he could only imagine the flurry that would surround Mom if she came herself. It was just the tiniest bit funny to imagine, but then he could picture her expression and that erased the smirk that had slipped onto his face.
He stepped back out into the hall a minute later, still looking terrible but less bloody.

Mrs. Falway looked him over and said “Better. Follow me.” and she led him wordlessly through the hallway and to the office.
When she stepped inside, she looked at the Secretary and said “Has he finished with the other one?” The Secretary shook her head. “Not yet. Today really was not the day for these… shenanigans, Mrs. Falway.” “Indeed.” the stern faced educator replied. She turned ans looked at Jessie. “Sit, young man.” She looked back at the Secretary. “A word, if you will.” and the two women stepped I to the hall and the door slid closed.
Jessie said nothing and just sat in the chair, leaning back and tipping his head upwards. He closed his eyes for a moment wishing he could just restart the day.
They were there but moments when they returned. The Secretary had a small smile tugging at the corner of her mouth, but said nothing. Mrs. Falway was gone.
Mrs. Falway
He opened his eyes and frowned. The whole thing was bloody embarrassing. It was definitely his first time in trouble, but then again it was also his first time in an actual school with other kids. He had thought it be different, that it would be maybe even a little fun. So far, not so much. Who was he kidding? Around here? With everything else going on? What an idiot he had been.

A few minutes later, a woman stepped into the office, looked Jessie over and approached the secretary, speaking softly. She disappeared into the office.
Jessie watched for a moment, guessing it might be Josh’s mom. From what he understood, this kind of thing happened quite a bit lately. Leaning back in his seat, he looked up towards the ceiling. Above the planet, his own mom was working, doing her thing, and apparently pissing off the locals. It wasn’t the first time. But it was the first time it had involved him directly in some way.
A couple minutes later, a tall figure with auburn hair stepped into the office and glanced at Jessie. His per’s eyes widened and they stepped up to the secretary’s desk. “I’m Ren Mathis, here for Jessie.”

The secretary nodded, “If you would, have a seat with your son. Headmaster Ch’zaahril will be with you in a moment. Do either of you need anything? I’m happy to get it for you.” She thought it best to not interject. Jessie could explain or wait for the headmaster.
