“Good. The colony deserves a stable presence in the court.” Urg said and took a large drink. Wiping his mouth with the back of his hand, he said “I have often wondered what it is about this place that draws so many here. They come form everywhere. And the fact that the streets are not awash in blood is a testament to the people, I think.” and he grinned slightly. “Or maybe they fear the righteous justice of the court.” and he laughed.

Urg, Lord Duroc

She laughed. “I would hope that the courts are a deterrent, though I do wish that more people felt it keenly and would stop their criminal activities. I am afraid even my well honed department of justice cannot completely curtail criminals or stupidity.”

“It is impressive to see the lengths some will go through to do criminal activity but those are not the ones I dislike the most. I hate the domestic violence ones especially if children are involved.”

Urg was silent for a long moment, a thoughtful expression on his face. “I have seen criminals of all kinds in my travels. And in most places, the worst of them were the ones who never would even see the inside of a courtroom. Be it because of wealth, position, power, or influence… they were allowed to continue as if they had a special position in life that allowed them to trample on and victimize others. Those are the ones I dislike the most. But to your point… those that victimize children for any purpose would not see your bench if I discovered their actions before the authorities.” His words were matter-of-fact, but there was an edge to them that conveyed his utter resolution in the matter.

Urg, Lord Duroc

She frowned slightly, not particularly liking this answer though she did understand it. Many people felt the same. “Then you would be the one to sit in my court Lord Duroc. I am not terribly fond of vigilante justice, especially if murder is involved so please do not put me in the position of having to face you in my court.”

Urg looked at her and smiled a wicked smile. “I promise you, Chief Justice, should such a creature find its way into my sight, you will never need worry about my appearance in your courtroom.” He took a breath and then said “I will also give you my word that I will give Oed’s justice system the opportunity to deal with them before I take any… ‘permanent’… action. On my honor, such as it is.” and he chuckled.

Urg, Lord Duroc

She chuckled and shook her head ruefully. He was a charmer and she was enjoying his company. IT had been unexpected, running into him on her spa day, but that coincidental meeting had blossomed into a good friendship. She could see he was an honorable man… in the way that Klingons were. Astrid enjoyed his humor and his giving nature. From the practical way he created and handled his crew, she didn’t doubt he understood the nature of loyalty and family. “That, I can concede to Lord Duroc. So, tell me of your family. You have a partner. Do you have any children?”
