Urg looked at Jal’na, then at the faces of some of the nurses and hospital staff. He looked back at her and leaned in and whispered “Do no harm… that was your oath, yes? Keep it. Let them think me the viscious one. You ha e need to be approachable.” He kissed her cheek and then started laughing. “Truly the offense was answered! Lady Duroc needs no male, no other warrior to fight her battles! Oh, she says she is no warrior… but we know her spirit is a fighting one!” At that moment, Herb the Naussixan returned with Etagh, dragging him by the back of his collar to stand before Lord Duroc and Lord Noggra. Noggra spoke first.

“You always were a hot-headed fool, Etagh.” and the old Klingon shook his head. “For years I have covered for your missteps. But tonight? Here? To do this? You bring dishonor upon my House, Etagh. I should kill you where you stand. But I will leave that to House Duroc.” Noggra looked up at Urg and said “Do what you will.” and shook his head again in disappointment.

Etagh was not large, but he was still a Klingon. And so it was even more impressive when Urg’s hand shot forward and he grabbed the warrior by the neck and lifted him off the ground to hold him at eye level with one arm. Etagh struggled to pry Urg’s grip open, but to no avail. Urg glared at him for a long moment… and then simply dropped him to ground in a heap. “You are not worth the small amount of time it would take to kill you. ” he growled and then looked back at Noggra. “H3 belongs to your House. I will not sully my blade with his blood.” Noggra nodded once and motioned with his hand and three Klingons of House Noggra stepped forward, grabbed Etagh, and took him away.

Urg. Lord Duroc

Her friends knew she was only half joking. There was a line that others could not be allowed to cross. Urg was correct though, she had taken an oath, not quite do no harm, but close enough. She watched Urg drop Etagh and Noggra dismiss him. Jal’na leaned over as Urg joined her again at the table, “And that is why I married you.” She kissed his cheek adding a bite, but did not break his skin. Insane brute they called him, but he was all hers.

Jal’na, Lady Duroc

The commotion made Eela jump a little, her startle reflex just a tad sensitive today. Clearly the bloodwine was getting to the guests, though it was equally clear that Jal’na and Ug had things well in hand. She watched as the offending challenger was roused. Tonight was not his night and she wondered if he would survive. Or want to. With a snort followed by a another gulp of the bloodwine, the rather tipsy Haliian pondered how no matter the culture, it wasn’t truly a wedding unless there was some sort of drama.

~Eela Dasca, Drunk Lt. Gov.

His name was Koden’thal. He was one of Lord Duroc’s personal guards, a good friend to the Lord, and a stalwart defender of House Duroc. He was also a strikingly handsome Klingon; so much so he had ‘companions’ of a myriad of species. But tonight, he had eyes for only one figure in the throng of party-goers… Lieutenant Governor Eela Dasca. All night, he had made sure to catch her eye, nod in respect, and was one of the few who made sure her flagon was always full.

As the commotion died down, he made his way to her and looked at her and smiled a brilliant smile. “Captain Dasca. I am Koden’thal, personal guard to Lord Duroc. I have read about you… you are a formidable warrior, and true leader. I am sure Lord and Lady Duroc are honored by your presence here.”

Big Daddy Mack Klingon

Standing tall despite the blood wine (she had a better tolerance than most would give her credit for), the leather-clad woman peered up at him and smiled. “It is I who is honoured to count them amongst my friends.” She gestured with her head in the direction of Etagh. “What do you think? Will there much left of him to be found by morning?” she said before taking another sip.

~Eela Dasca, Drunk Lt. Gov.

Koden’thal didn’t look away from her, he simply shrugged. “He dishonored himself and his house. Even if something is left, it wouldn’t be fit to feed a targ.” He smiled again and leaned slightly closer. “But let us discuss something more… pleasant, shall we? I applaud your choice of dres for the evening, Captain. A more lethal combination of ability and beauty I do not think I have ever seen.”

Urg was watching the exchange and was trying very hard not to laugh. Instead, he elbowed Jal’na and jerk3d his chin their direction.

Urg and The Smooth Operator

Jal’na looked over and snorted. “I doubt either of them is aware of what they are getting into. He is laying it on a bit thick as the humans say, and Eela’s had a lot of bloodwine.” She grinned, all sharp teeth, “It’s cute when they try to keep up.” Jal’na watched a moment longer. “As long as she doesn’t damage her back, let them enjoy it.”

Jal’na

Eela gazed up at him, her hazel eyes glittering with amusement. Tonight was the perfect mix of celebration and drowning her sorrows. Having a Klingon make a pass at her had not been on the agenda, but it certainly was a surprise. “It felt appropriate, all things considered. Tell me, Koden’thal, with your words of flattery, what is it you hope to achieve?”

~Eela Dasca, Drunk Lt. Gov.

Koden’thal was no coward. Nor did he shy away from direct answers to direct questions. He leaned low and looked the Lieutenant Governor in the eyes and said “I hope achieve you taking me to your bed, experiencing everything we can give one another, and then you allowing me the honor of making you a morning feast which I will serve to you in that same bed.”

Urg watched through narrowed eyes. He growled low to Jal’na “If that moron manages to offend Dasca, I’m going to put him with Etagh…”

Urg. Lord Duroc

Jal’na warched on amused and concerned, but not for the reason Urg was. “If she is offended my opinion of Eela will be highly diminished, and I will be even more offended on Koden’thal’s behalf. What did she think would happen coming to a Klingon party in that dress? Then asking Koden’thal so directly what he wants? Let them be. Eela can say what she does and does not want and he would never dishonor our house.”

Jal’na, Lady Duroc

Eyes alight, Eela met his gaze evenly and then gave a throaty chuckle. “That’s a pretty bold goal.” She leaned in slightly and spoke softly to him. “And I say this with full respect intended, but I am Haliian. Are you sure you can handle me?” Nor was she entirely sure he even knew what that would mean, to say nothing of her physical considerations. She hadn’t known a Klingon to abide such physical weakness, but then again this was House Duroc, so all bets were off.

~Eela Dasca, Drunk Lt. Gov

Koden’thal grinned and said “While your species is not overly familiar to me, I am confident in my abilities to handle whatever you wish to throw at me, Captain. I do not know fear, nor am I so prudish to believe that there are only a small number of ways to enjoy the physical attentions of a beauty like yourself. But if you are concerned that my abilities may not be capable of sustaining you… all I will say is ‘You never know if you don’t try.’.” and he offered his hand to her. “Care to dance, Captain?”

Urg watched and then looked at Jal’na. “She is going to ruin him, I think.” and he laughed loudly.

Don’t Hate The Player, Hate The Game

Jal’na smirked as she watched with more than a little interest. “Perhaps, but he might just ruin her in turn. He may be just what Eela needs right now. She scanned the crowd, spotting, in a far corner of the bottom floor, Lt Mika making a very bold pass at the young Betazoid woman that had been working the bar until an hour ago. Elaine was taking a cup of bloodwine away from Jessie who was making eyes at G’enx. That would go no where. Desh was working and took that quite seriously, but every so iften his gaze would land on Elaine with a warm glint- interesting. Yavia and Sharah and Ilena were sitting at a table, nudging each other and pointing as they people watched. Shrine and her mother had disappeared…

Jal’na, Lady Duroc

Eela couldn’t say she had ever seen a Klingon dance, certainly not in a way she was accustomed to, and she was definitely wary of hurting herself. Then again she had had so much bloodwine at this point, that what was pain anyway? Eela set her flagon down and eyed Koden’thal. “You assume I speak merely of the physical, but yes, I will dance with you,” she said, setting her hand in his firmly. What the hell, she only lived once, right?

~Eela

Koden’thal led her to the dance floor. He was surprisingly delicate of touch for a being his size, and a more reserved song started up and he held her close, but not too close. As the music started, he began to to move with while not exactly grace, but a smoothness born of a lifetime of combat training. His emotions were not complicated, nor were they hidden. He was enjoying her company, but his agenda was clear.

Koden’thal

Eela was certainly more confident with her body than she had been even a week ago, and it was clear that while she wasn’t physically training the way she once had her body was stronger than her physical issues might suggest, if he even knew about them. The truth was that the banter and even the dancing now was a nice distraction from the last two and a half days, but a deeper part of her that was safely tucked away just now was quite raw. Could she simply keep it there and enjoy herself? Most definitely. Was that a good idea? Perhaps not.

She gave him a small smile and let him lead the slow progression. It wasn’t anything fancy, but she didn’t require it to be. Besides it distracted her from the internal argument being waged and it wasn’t yet clear who would win. “So, Koden’thal, I seem to be at a disadvantage in that you know possibly much about me and I cannot say the same. What is there to know about Lord Duroc’s trusted guard?”

~Eela

Koden’thal smiled and looked down at Eela. “I was houseless my entire life.” He began. “Fortunately, I was good with a blade and a disruptor, so I was paid to be a mercenary. I earned myself honor in battle, but I was not a true Klingon without a house. I knew that I could petition one, but they all seemed so… so… enamored of themselves. I also knew that no matter what, I would still be looked down upon as I was not born into a house. And then one day I got in a fight with an Antican. I was just about to plunge my blade into their heart when suddenly I couldn’t move my arm.” and he laughed. “The single largest Klingon I had ever seen in all my days had hold of my wrist, and he lifted me off the ground and shook me like a child’s toy!” and he laughed louder at the memory. “He yelled at me and said if I dared to raise a hand against one of his house, he would drink my blood from my stripped-bare skull.” and he smiled. “It was, of course, Lord Duroc. He demanded I take him to his House so they could answer for my dishonor. I told him I had no house, and to do with me what he would; I feared not death.” He slowed their dancing as his eyes took on a more somber… more serious look. “He looked at me, Captain… he looked me in the eyes and I saw fire. Actual… fire. And at that moment I knew the rumors about him were true. He truly did speak to a forgotten god. One who sat at the right hand of The Unmerciful One. I could feel that look burn through me as if my soul itself was ablaze. But the pain was a great one… and it showed me that House Duroc was not only formidable; but that I was worth more that tradition dictated. That my worth was not based on my birth, but on my actions. And it wasn’t that I was worthy of the House… but that House Duroc was worthy of me.” He looked down at her and leaned in. “That is the secret of House Duroc, you know. The House doesn’t make us worthy… we make the House worthy. A lesson all of us know… and one most others have forgotton.”

Koden’thal

She had held his gaze as he spoke and showed nothing less than regard for his words, the things he believed to be true. Her eyes held a depth of understanding, of someone who had herself faced pivotal moments of choice and had stood tall to meet them without wavering. Her eyes also spoke of someone who held deep beliefs that could not entirely be explained by rational thought and evidence. “I know,” she said. “I have seen it to be true,” she said, smiling briefly at the memory of Luis Vargas. “I am glad you found your place. It is a true gift to know where you belong.” This too was a statement of truth that she knew applied to her as well. She had known it with utter certainty the moment the shadow from her past had tried to convince her she was not enough without them. But she was already rooted. Oed had claimed her and whether it was Fate or simply happenstance, Eela felt that truth in every cell of her body.

~Eela

“It is indeed.” he said quietly… and then a large hand landed on his shoulder and a shadow fell across the two of them. “I’m cutting in. Go get drunk.” Urg said to Koden’thal, who simply bowed his head at Urg and the looked at Eela. “It was my pleasure to hold you against me, Captain.” and he turned and walked away.

Eela showed nothing short of amusement as she watched Koden’thal walk away, but in a way she was grateful even if she couldn’t quite explain it. The timing was just… off.

Urg grinned at her then turned and yelled behind him. “Wife!!! Come to me and dance with us! We have friends to save from the clutches of lecherousness!” and he laughed, as did a few around them.

Urg, Lord Duroc

Jal’na turned from where she was talking to Dr. Helaky. Jal’na barked a laugh as well and gave him a hungry stare, “And are those friends going to save me from your lecherous clutches?!” She crossed the distance anyway to the sound of uproarious laughter and cheers.

Jal’na, Lady Duroc

Eela laughed as well. “Who were you saving from whom, anyway?” she asked, still amused.

~Eela

Urg looked down at Eela and smiled, then put an arm around both and began to dance. “He is one of my best and most dedicated protectors. A warrior of great strength and unwavering loyalty. Fearless and ablee to face down any enemy… you would have crushed him into targ dung” and he roared with laughter.
