As the Governor and Lieutenat Governor sat back in the slider on their way to the Oed V Museum, Kenzo looked at her and said “Now, then… what offer were you referring to?”Hyrushi, Governor
Even just the physical distance from her place reduced the tension in her and Eela adopted a casual posture as she sat there with him. “So, that ritual I told you about last week, the one where a Haliian is reconnected with their deepest self?” That night with the sushi. The one where she so fully stepped into herself that it had been a little shocking, all told. But wonderful.
“Traditionally, it’s done on the Third Day of Batarael. But it’s not a requirement and can be done at any time. I think though, that given what Batarael means for me this year in particular and at this juncture of my life, that it’s time to do the Sua Soams.” She pronounced it su-ah so-ahms. “You offered you space to my for the ritual and I think I’d like to take you up on it. While it would actually be really poignant to do so at my place and thus maybe make that space less contentious, the patio is all stone. The ritual requires grounding to the living world around you and we do that by laying on grass or moss, something growing. Alive. Your garden makes the most sense and is private and secure,” Eela said, her hazel eyes taking him in.
~Eela
Kenzo inclined his head. “Of course. My home is always open to you… as is the garden. You may come to do tour ritual whenever you like.”
She bowed her head gratefully to him. “We’ll talk about the particulars later,” she said, seeing that they were drawing near to their destination.
The slider pulled up in front of the sprawling native brick building. Large, wide steps led up to a entrance flanked on either side by large stone pillars. The entrance was designed to handle the steady ebb and flow of the hundreds and hundreds of patrons the Museum received every day. Today, however, the front was filled with police, CCDA, journalists setting up equipment, and event staff getting the final touches in place before the gala. Hyrushi stepped out and to the side, allowing Eela to exit. As they began to walk up to the entrance, several reports activated holocam drones and all began asking questions.
“Governor Hyrusi! Is the colony prepared for the Vren Arrival?!”
“Governor! Have the Vren been seen in face to face yet?! What are they like?!”
“Captain Dasca! What is Star Fleet’s stance on the letter you and the Governor sent?! Are they mad at you?!”
Hyrushi sighed slightly and held up his hands as he walked towards the small contingent of reporters.
“Calm, calm… all of you know better than this. We will answer a few questions, but we are here to check on the preparations. Now. One question each, if you please.” The first journalist spoke up before the others. “Governor, how would you categorize the colony’s preparations for the Vren arrival; and do you have any concerns about them?”Hyrushi nodded and said “I would categorize our Preparations as ‘thorough’. We will be doing everything we can to ensure the success of this historic meeting, and to make the Vren feel welcome here. As to concerns, I do not have any about the Vren. We have spoken many times with their Ambassador, Griget Kek, and they are as supportive of this communication and meeting as anyone else. Personally? I am very excited to meet them. It is not often we get a chance to meet new species and mend old wounds simultaneously.”
Hyrushi, Governor
Eela wore a genuine smile and nodded her agreement with his response. “And I know that based on history, it’s easy to assume the worst about Starfleet’s response to our statement, but Starfleet’s presence here on Oed today is to serve the colony and help where it can. We see that everyday with personnel working alongside the different colonial departments. Our statement to the Council has not changed that, nor would we want it to. And in most of my more recent conversations, I’ve received nothing but understanding and support. Does every person at Starfleet Command share that feeling? Not necessary. But then again, neither do every citizen of Oed hold the same beliefs, and I did not expect otherwise. It is, as always, how we deal with this different beliefs and feelings over important topics that matter and all I can say is that the work we are doing together is a much stronger base of evidence than any words that can be said.”
She was glad he limited them to one question; otherwise they would be here for ages.
With a bow of her head, Eela moved off with Kenzo as they entered the museum. she noted the mixed group of security that illustrated her point to the press beautifully. Was it always smooth? Hell, no. But everyone was making it work. “One gauntlet down, seven hundred trillion to go,” she quipped.
~Eela
“I do not relish the custodians duty should this fall end… poorly.” Hyrushi said. And he was only half joking. As they entered, they were greeted almost immediately by a small contingent of planners, curators, and security personnel. Kenzo looked at Eela… and sighed heavily.
Kenzo
She had been in the thick of things with a lot of these people, so Eela just smiled at a pair that were at the front of the group, a Human male and Bajoran woman dressed in a Starfleet uniform with two solid pips. “Dominick, Raila, we’re just here to peruse the place and see where things are at,” waving her hands a little. The others took the cue to let them be for a little while. They would get to everyone eventually. “Ma’am.” “Captain.” They both greeted her with a warm smile.
“Governor Hyrushi, this is Dominick Bridges, Director of the Oed Museum, and Lieutenant Yasran Raila, one of our Senior Operations Officers,” Dasca said.
~Eela
Hyrushi shook hands with each in turn, and then said “A pleasure. Will you please show us the preparations? And is everything on a schedule?” He gestured everyone forward and further into the building. “Has your staff and the museum been treated well by all the event personnel, Director Bridges?”
Kenzo
“Oh, absolutely,” Bridges said. “And there have been some lively discussions about idea for upcoming special exhibits,” he said as they moved along the large open space on the main floor.
They had walked into the Oed Museum through multiple doors at the front and immediately entered into large open tiled space in the middle, and were directly across from a matching flank of doors at the back that led to outdoor gathering spaces. The two left and right were exhibit areas (North and South Wings) with various rooms surrounding a larger exhibit space. There were a second and third floor with more exhibit spaces and a kids learning centre, but the middle space was open the main floor, and this openness was copied in each central exhibit in the wings. This central main floor space was where the gala would be held and already tables were being laid out. Light filtered through from the skylights high above them. Event staff were prepping a podium area where speeches and what not would happen.
“As you can see, we’re setting up large round tables towards the front of the event space for the speeches and when people wish to sit and eat, but there is still plenty of space for people to stand and mingle. In each corner is a less formal sitting area,” Dominick said as he moved towards the south wing but led them through a door into a large multipurpose room where security and operations folks were working. It had been set up with comfortable couches and chairs, and long tables were being set-up along one side.
Lt. Yasran picked up the thread of the conversation. “This is the green room. It’s highly secure and no unauthorized people will be allowed through, but it will serve at the beginning as a place for all you to gather before the Vren delegation arrives and afterwards, for those on a list of VIPs to step out of the gala and take a break if you need to, to confer, whatever what might come up.”
Eela nodded and looked at Kenzo. “There’s another room on the other side that is similar but it will be for operations, emergency response teams, medics, that sort of thing. The joint security teams have vetted all staff and everyone will be scanned and verified when they arrive to confirm identity and purpose for being there.”
