Jal’na clapped Mika on the shoulder, maybe a bit too heavily for the other woman. “Tandra Mika this is my husband, Urg’tohn, Lord Duroc. Urg, Tandra Mika, she has joined us from Star Fleet at Sacred Heart. I have the privilege of working with her with many patients.”
Mika was slightly, okay, really terrified of him. This Klingon was at least twice, maybe three times her size and massively intimidating. A mug of something she didn’t recognize was thrust into her hand and she didn’t dare unintentionally offend anyone. So, she raised the mug to his, smiled a wide smile, and took as large of a drink of the liquid inside as she could manage at once.
It was disgusting! She swallowed anyway, not letting herself make a face. Ugh! The aftertaste! Klingon food and drink was… something else. Still, she maintained a happy smile throughout that.... Experience. She gave Urg and Jal’na one more nod before moving off a little ways, giving others the opportunity to speak to them.

Sharah came up to Tandra as she moved away, “Tandra, I’m glad you made it. This way, we have ice cream. The rest of the medical staff is over here, though some have spread out to the rest of the tavern. I have to find Yavia. I’m sure she’s up to trouble.” She glanced around looking for the woman.
Jal’na and Sharah
Eela drank more from her mug and eyed the happy couple. “Well, Lord Duroc. It good to see you’ve met your match,” she said with a gleam in her hazel eyes as she smirked a little at Jal’na. She was certain the Builder must have had plenty to say about too. Jal’na was used to dealing with stubborn people, herself included, and knew exactly the right way to motivate people. It was an interesting but no unexpected pairing in her mind.

Urg looked at her and said “I prefer to think of Jal’na as the missing piece to my mind’s puzzle. Praise the Builder for bringing me here so I could meet her.” He raised his mug and yelled “THE BUILDER!!” and all of House Duroc screwed it back. Urg smiled and said “Fanaticism… it can be a beautiful thing.” and he laughed.
Urg, Lord Duroc
With a grin, Eela lifted her mug and took a hearty gulp. She was never going to say that blood wine was her favourite but she didn’t mind it. Whether it would kick her ass later, well, she was twenty-five years older and even with her people’s ability to tolerate alcohol quite well, she wasn’t sure how far she wanted to push the hangover. On the other hand, this was a celebration and she was glad to have a reason to do so.
Even Jal’na added her voice to the call. How she felt about The Builder was still mostly a mystery to her, but she given her word to have faith when Urg gave her the medalion. Her participation garnered curious and perplexed looks from her parents and other House Noggra members having never known Jal’na to be religious in any way.
Jal’na understood what Eela was trying to say bit it was very much a human saying and ppint if view. For Klingins, meeting one’s match was about an opponent who was equal in all things, a worthy and epic battle. “His is the heart that beats in rhythm with mine.” At least that part of Klingon mythology was true. Jal’na could feel it.
Jal’na, Lady Duroc
Eela smiled at the words. “I like that sentiment.” In truth, this was the first Klingon wedding celebration of any kind she’d been to and so she was happy to take everything in and learn.
While Sharah and Tandra were trying to figure out where she went, Yavia was making her way to speak with Jal’na. “Jal’na!” Yavia sidled up to her and smirked. “I see you finally found your own warrior to chase, rather than mine.”
Jal’na chuckled, “Bah! I did not want yours. You just needed to think you had competition so you would stop procrastinating. But in the end it still took two of you to tame him.” Jal’na roared with laughter.
Yavia cackled, “Or they both caught me. I’m not sure.” Jal’na waved her closer. “Sit and have a drink with me.” She reached out, snagged a chair and dragged it over. “Urg, this is Yavia Crockett. The finest nurse I have ever worked with and my dearest friend.”
Yavia gave him a ferral smile, “My honor Lird Duroc. May you both share many y glorious battles together!” Yavia raised her mug and then, for such a small person, she drained an impressive amount from her glass.
Yavia
Urg grinned and said “And may you find a death that song of with pride by your kin.” He then leaned in and whispered to Jal’na “jI’IQtaHmo’ jI’IQ. yIntaHvIS wa’ rur DenIb Qatlh.” (I love it when they try to sound Klingon. Its like a targ whelp barking at a Denib Qatlh.)
Urg, Lord Duroc
Jal’na smirked, “yIDoghQo’. ghangtaHvIS. rutlh nuvpu’ ghaH.” (Don’t be too harsh. She’s keeping her promise. At least she is cute like a targ whelp). Jal’na scooped a large spoonful of ice cream while Yavia’s brows went up. The bride chuckled at her friend’s expense. The Deltan chuckled and turned to Eela.
Eela drank more from her mug (one gulp per toast seemed appropriate) and she smiled softly at the Deltan. “Good evening, Yavia. It’s good to see you.”
~Eela Dasca
“It is good to be seen Eela. I am glad we could be here to celebrate with Jal’na.” Yavia turned as several platters of food and carved targ were carried in and set along the various tables. “It might not look appetizing to some, but it smells delucious.”
Jak’na and Yavia
Urg took a thick metal skewer and stabbed a few pieces of meat. “The Klingon palate is more refined than most give us credit for. We just happen to enjoy meat more than anything else.” he said to Yavia with a grin and a wiggle of his eyebrows that looked more menacing than friendly. He tore a bite from the skewer and turned to talk to another guest.
Urg, Lord Duroc
Yavia chuckled looking from Jal’na to Urg and back. The menacing look was tempered by the humor and mostly the deep affection for his wife that was all too obvious to the Deltan. Then Yavia smirked. She laid a hand on Jal’na’s arm and leaned in to speak with her. “Oh Jal’na, he is perfect for you. I believe you will both laugh a lot and drive each other wonderfully crazy. More than that he is everything you never knew you needed.” She hugged Jal’na tightly and stood and snagged a skewer from a passing server. “Others are waiting to see you, so I will make way. Besides, Shrine promised if I caused a scene there would be dire consequences.” And they both laughed.
A male Klingon with Noggra’s crest took Yavia’s place, Etagh. He was tall and muscular, but thin and wirey by Klingon standards. He saluted Jal’na and stared at her a long moment before he spoke. “Lady Duroc.”
Jal’na regarded him. “I am honored, Etagh.” He nodded and moved away.
Jal’na, Lady Duroc
Urg looked at her and gave her a questioning look. He finished with his conversation and moved to her and said in low rumble “And who was that? Potential suitor?”
Urg, Lord Duroc
Jal’na shook her head, “Not that I am aware of,” though the interaction was odd. She grinned up at him. “Besides I am not in need of suitors of any kind. His name is Etagh. He was one of my first patients. He was determined to fight again and I was determined to show it could be done.” Jal’na shrugged, “We were both successful.” They had of course spent a lot of time together. It was possible she had missed his interest, but it had never been anything more for Jal’na.
Jal’na, Lady Duroc
Urg eyed the warrior for a moment, ensuring that the look was seen. To his credit, Etagh didn’t flinch. He simply turned to face Urg fully from across the way and placed his fist on his chest and bowed his head. Urg grunted and nodded once. That was all the exchange needed for the meaning to be made clear. She is mine. followed by I know and will respect that. Urg looked at Jal’na and said “I am glad your work is so important to you, Wife.” and he grinned.
Urg, Lord Duroc
Jal’na gave him a slightly amused look and purred out a soft growl for him. She was his and it didn’t matter what anyone else thought or wanted. If Etagh was interested he had had years to say something and he didn’t. “My work is important to me. As are my patients, but they are only patients.” Her look turned teasing as another round of servers brought in trays. “Excellent, Husband, they have brought the fresh gagh.”
Jal’na, wife of Urg
It was strange to be in a place as full of people as this and be able to move about freely without her security within eyesight. Outside of the Tower and her apartment, they were always there in public places. Though she supposed that that was the point. Tonight, this tavern was not a public space. Still, it didn’t stop Eela from enjoying the feeling of freedom as she moved off to mingle, bloodwine in hand. It helped too that the leather dress was so far outside her usual garb that no one really noticed or recognized her. It suited her just fine for the moment. She felt the joy in the room, the celebratory feelings that permeated the space and she allowed herself to be in it with them, to contribute positive feelings for Urg and Jal’na. Right now, that was all that mattered.

Over in the corner Gayra and Alice were having quite the conversation, glancing about and laughing. “Alice what is this concoction?” She pointed to the frosted bowl of whipped frozen globs.
“This, Gayra is ice-cream. An Earth frozen desert made from milk. It comes in an endless supply of flavors.” She grabbed a container from a frozen box and set it un front of the woman. It contained a slightly ivory with a deep magenta swirl. “Roasted beets with goat cheese. Jal’na’s favorite.”
Gayra took the spoon and scooped out a bit and stared at it. “Jal’na likes this?” She sniffed it curiously. “She eats this regularly?”
Alice grinned, “Oh yes. See we have a tradition among the medical staff. When someone goes in a date we wait for them to return home. If it went badly we drunk wine to drown sorrows or toast not being stuck with them. Or if it went well we indulge in ice cream because the lucky woman need to cool off because the evening was so hot.” It took a moment for Gayra to understand the meaning of the colloquialism. Then she roared with laughter. “I believe you must have started this Alice.” Alice nodded admitting to it. “I believe yes we need this icecream. I honestly wasn’t sure they would make it to their own celebration! Especially once they were dressed.” Gayra stabbed the ice cream with the spoon (luckily it was still frozen solid and didn’t splatter) and before Alice could warn her she shoved a large spoonful in her mouth and gave herself a brain freeze. Gayra roared in indignation after it passed and deemed it a worthy desert.
Alice and Gayra
The party continued on with festivities and drinking for some time… until it all came to screeching halt.
Etagh, obviously drunk far more than was necessary, bellowed at the top of his lungs “BY ALL THE DEAD GODS I DEMAND MY RIGHT OF CHALLENGE AGAINST URG’TOHN, LORD DUROC, FOR THE HAND OF JAL’NA OF HOUSE NOGGRA!!!” The words were formal, official, and wholly a slap in the face to not only Urg, but all of House Duroc. Jal’na was no longer of House Noggra… and to call her so was to deem House Duroc unworthy. Duroc warriors of all species, stopped what they were doing and hands dropped to weapons, but Urg yelled “STOP!!! NOT A BLADE WILL BE BARED!” He looked down at Etagh, his jaw clenching as his teeth ground together. He took several long breaths for a long time in silence before he exhaled and growled “Little whelp… by all the customs and rights of our people I should have your entrails hanging from the rafters right now!” He looked away from Etagh to Lord Noggra. “Brother… I will allow this to drop if you can talk sense into this one. But if he presses… I will be obligated to answer the challenge. And I will tolerate no challenge to my wife.”
Urg, Lord Duroc, SUPER Pissed Right Now
Jal’na’s head whipped around and she glared. Not only was it insulting to the house it was insulting to her and to Urg. So while they were arguing over how and when things would be done, Jal’na stood fluidly from her seat and in a swirl of red and black satin and velvet. Etagh grinned in triumph as she approached him, and Jal’na looked bored. He reached out an arm but instead of an embrace his wrist was suddenly twisted, his arm bent backwards in an unnatural position and Jal’na used thenpressure to push him backwards, bent over the balcony railing. Her voice was low, but it carried in the silence. “1 you have no claim over me, 2 never ever challenge someone who knows your weaknesses,” she twisted his arm further and Etagh screamed as old wounds that they had worked together so long to heal almost gave way. “And most importantly, I am Lady Jal’na DUROC!” She let go of the damaged arm as her other hand pushed him backwards and her leg took out his one foot that was still on the ground and Etagh went tumbling over the railing to the floor below. A full table, chairs, two barrels of bloodwine and platters of food crashed, shattered, tipped and flew as his body landed in a heap. Jal’na turned, looked at Urg and Lord Noggra, “Problem solved,” she returned to her chair, picked up her bloodwine, and drank.
