Though he made no indication to show it, Conrad was quite surprised at her openness about it. He was no telepath, but he got a feel for people. Came with the job to be fair. He was almost in awe of her. To share details of such things with people you did not know was never an easy task. Strangely, he admired her for it.

“No energy weapons, eh?” he asked, rhetorically. He leaned back in his seat, pondering. He didn’t need a weapon to defend himself, though he wasn’t sure about anyone else. “So anyone going down ought to be informed of hand-to-hand combat, just in case.”

As an afterthought, he added, “Do your people have anything against AI’s of any sort?” His thoughts were about Katrina, knowing that she was an advanced AI.

Halai considered this carefully and slowly shook her head. “No, I wouldn’t expect that they would. Tyrellia doesn’t really use AIs very much but we do have advanced tech. It’s just that it typically is well concealed to merge into the background as much as possible. I would perhaps exercise caution about who you bring the AI out in front of, but I wouldn’t overly worry about it.”

Valkris watched the Black Sparrow CO, her posture relaxed but alert. He seemed to consider something before asking about AI. She waited for the answer to his question before she started in with her own, hoping to clarify something to the rules. Cosgrove mentioned energy weapons specifically weren’t allow, but Klingons valued hand to hand combat and more traditional weapons.

“So energy weapons are discouraged. I take it that bladed weapons are out of the question too?” Valkris asked when she saw a proper moment.

It sounded like a stupid or suspicious question, but each culture was different. Klingons didn’t worry about weapons because they valued visual strength. It wasn’t strange for someone to walk anywhere with a mek’leth strapped to their hip daily. In fact, it was sometimes encouraged to show a warrior’s nature and for their own protection. Valkris felt safe having one within reach when in a strange place. Even if she never intended to use it.

“It should be fine, but keep it small. The thing to remember is that Tyrellian society generally is a harmonious one. Violence is incredibly rare and most people would never dream of arming themselves. To them it would be seen as a measure of distrust. However, that was before contact with the Federation and now that there are off-worlders visiting and sometimes living there, that precept has relaxed a bit. It will be tolerated, but it could alter people’s perception of you upon first meeting.”

Halai moved over to the side of the room and picked up her dark stained bō and showed the wooden quarterstaff to everyone. “This is what I’m carrying. It’s a bit shorter to suit my fighting style, but I can assure you that as unassuming as it looks, when used properly, it is more than enough. I have no intention of needing to use it, but it serves as a warning to those that already caused me harm that I’m willing to defend myself and those who are entrusted to my hospitality, which is all of you.”

Conrad nodded understanding perfectly now. “Got it. And finally are there any stipulations about being in Tyrellia space? I really don’t want to be surprised to find my ship towed from its parking spot, if you catch my drift.”

Conrad aleady knew what he had in mind to bring with him on the trip down. Some special tech he had managed to procur when he found Katrina would work quite well on this trip.

Halai smiled almost shrewdly. “You won’t have to worry about a thing. When we get into the system and Control hails you, I will be present on the bridge. It is… not a stretch to say that people will know who I am. Tyrellian Starfleet officers are rare and I have a reputation on the planet earned from work I did with a government a few years ago. Not only will they not question you but we’ll all be warily welcomed. Well, those who aren’t against me, I suppose.”
