Reaching out, she rested her hand in his and pushed herself to her feet. “I suppose,” she said with a smile and a feigned sigh. She grabbed her empty plate and her mug and moved back into the house and it was clear that there was an ease within her that had not been present at all the last couple of days. Was she ‘better’? No. Was she a lot better than she had been? By lightyears. It wasn’t that she didn’t understand how family worked, but her sense of it at this point in her life had been disjointed. That had changed and coalesced into this beautiful new thing.

Moving downstairs, Eela changed into back into her black leggings and embroidered pale purple tunic and brushed her hair out. It took her all over one minute to pack her well-worn bag from the Diplomatic Corps. She took a turn around the room with the beautiful waterfalls on the wall and smiled.

Moving back upstairs, she was as composed as she could be, her trepidation well hidden. She patted the side pocket of her bag. “I have demon banishing equipment handy. Ready?”

Tenkiller was now in jeans with a faded orange t-shirt with black lettering that said ‘Pawhuska Huskies- 2A Basketball Champions’ in a circle around a cartoon-like canine head. His hair was tied back in a braid with a leather holder at the end. He too had a small bag and he lifted it up. “You betcha. Let’s go do this thing, shall we?” and he led her out the door and into the waiting slider.

As they flew over the city, Eela was quiet, taking in the places and the people, seeing it all from a slightly different perspective. Or rather it was her perspective that had changed.

Arriving at her building, she stepped out, settling the strap of her bag on her shoulder. With a nod to Charles, she entered the building. Haskins wasn’t on duty, but she mentally made a note to talk to him the next time she saw him.

The lobby was fine. Enough people had passed through there to disperse whatever she might have felt was there. Stepping into the lift was also fine though as they went up, she felt strangely disconnected to her body as she repeated the same actions she had with Cory. She focused on her breath and how it felt in her body, grounding herself in the here and now.

When they arrived at her entry space and she nodded to the guards on duty, her face impassive. Reaching into the zipper side pocket, she pulled out the dropper bottle with a dark amber liquid and looked at Charles. “First things first,” she said before she unscrewed the lid and approached her door. Eela crouched and ran the tip of the dropper along the bottom edge of the door and partly up both sides, before pushing herself upright again. She went up as far as she could, but couldn’t get the top of the large door. She held it out to him. “Do you mind? I could jump and try to get it but that would be a bit ridiculous,” she said with a tiny smirk.

“I dunno, Ma’am… maybe we all earned a bit of ridiculousness over the past couple’a days.” Tenkiller said with a grin even as he took the bottle and completed the application.

Eela actually laughed and it allowed some of the tension under the surface to dissipate. Once he was done, she tucked the bottle back into her bag until it was

She gave an apologetic look to the guards. “I hope the smell doesn’t bother you. It’s fairly mild and it should fade pretty fast.” This decoction had an earthy and herbaceous scent that she actually found quite enjoyable and it was (to her own senses) soft.

The guards waved off her concern and one of the Agents said “Ma’am, cleaning crew from the building has been in and cleaned up. One of them, a Mr. Gden, watered the plants. He said you knew he knew what he was doing.”

She nodded. “I’ll be sure to thank him later.” She had no doubt Sinna had been organizing everything, especially given there had been construction in her office and hallway being completed. Opening her door, Eela paused for a moment and took a deep breath before she stepped inside.

Everything looked perfectly in place, as it should. Setting her bag on one of the chairs in the foyer, she pulled out a slightly larger glass spray bottle holding a transparent liquid with a slight green tint. She moved to the hallway and looked down towards her bedroom and then down the other way towards her office. She smiled at the wall of recessed bookcases. It looked amazing. It was something positive to focus on even as her stomach twisted in knots. “Well, I don’t know the right order of operations, here. I was just going to spray this in any place he had been, but I don’t know if that should be before or after we use your smudge stick.” There were no rules, but different rituals had different purposes, and Eela knew that this was as much about her own peace of mind as it was about the physical space she needed to feel safe in again.
