The message had been sent and Karilan breathed out a sigh of relief. She was ok, and she asked if they would come over and help sort and display her books.

Karilan told the store they would be gone for the next day or so, but to contact them if the staff needed anything. They went to the basement, picked up their good toolkit, and then made their way to the apartment building of the Lieutenant Governor… their friend Eela Dasca.

When they arrived, Security was a bit more ‘thorough’ in their assessment and then paged the Lt. Governor’s Security Detail, who cam down and escorted Karilan up to Eela’s door. Karilan knocked and waited.

The door opened and Eela stepped aside to let Karilan in. “Hello, come on in,” she said with a genuine, if weary, smile. Dressed casually in black leggings and a stretchy purple top to her thighs, those that saw her frequently could tell she was a bit thinner. “Apologies for the extra hassle. Security is understandably a little bit twitchy. But I’m really glad you’re here.”

Karilan stepped inside, placed their toolkit on the ground, and the wrapped Eela up in a massive hug. “I was so worried. I am glad you are better.” They intentionally chose not to say ‘ok’, because they knew their friend wasn’t. “And I brought you a present.” they added, but didn’t let go of the hug.

Eela held onto Karilan tightly and breathed out something of a sigh. “You did? I thought you digging through my crates hunting for my father’s book and sending my ingredients was a pretty lovely gift all on its own.” Finally she let go. “Thank you, by the way. I hope it wasn’t too awkward? I would have asked you directly but I was… not in a good place to be making calls to anyone.”
