“This Saturday is the little league game. Such a sweet older couple. I bet they have all kinds of stories to tell. I am not too worried about Mr Borcheck, Bolians can eat anything, but I hope there is something the Misses can eat.” Yavia grinned, the couple had been so cute at the auction. “What about you? When will you be taking Mr Jones out?”

“The arts showcase is Thursday night,” Eela said with a soft smile. “Honestly, this week is so busy as it is that I kind of wish it was the following week but I guess in some ways it will be good to be out in public like that. Sort of get whatever anxieties I have left out of my system before the gala with the Vren. I sort of figure tomorrow night at the tavern I’ll be able to blend in more easily with the party, so there’s no pressure to be on, as it were.” Her smile deepened and anticipation twisted in her stomach. “And I know I’ll be navigating that evening with some extra variables I didn’t anticipate having, but I’m really looking forward to spending time with him, Yavia. It’s been so long since I’ve had this feeling and it’s… lovely.”

Yavia laughed, “There is never pressure to be ‘on’ with Klingons, unless that means ready to do battle in whatever form it comes in, from arm wrestling to drinking. I am looking forward to tomorrow. I’m very happy for Jal’na. She was a self proclaimed hermit and had every intention of staying that way. Until Shrine got ahold of her. That woman won’t tolerate anyone being lonely. Jal’na very much was when she came here. She is one of my dearest friends. And tomorrow is all about their traditions and customs. But most importantly, it’s about getting to celebrate Jal’na and her husband and the life they are forming together. And I for one intend to tell as many embarrassing tales about her as possible.” Yavia laughed loudly, worthy of any Klingon. “Assuming she doesn’t kill me first.”

Eela laughed. “I can’t wait to see what you get away with, and who is left standing by the end of the night too.”

“If it’s like normal either we will both be standing or both in a lot of trouble.” Yavia grinned. There was so much trouble she could cause for Jal’na, but she wouldn’t. Not tomorrow. Tomorrow was a celebration and her friend deserved to have all the best of any traditions.

She started pulling out plates and flatware, cups and drinks. “Ah anticipation is lovely, Eela. I think you will have a lovely time. And it will be just the distraction that you need before all the other happens. And I am certain whether one evening or more, Mr Jones will make sure you have a lovely evening. He’s quite taken with you.”

Yavia

Warmth flooded her and Eela beamed. “Well, the feeling is quite mutual,” she said, stepping over to take the plates from Yavia and help set the table. “It’s funny actually, but he and Mathis and I have crossed paths with each other before at a conference for diplomats. But I never really got to know others very well from the Corps because I was always on the go. I was a Diplomat-at-large in a sense. I went where they needed me, for whatever sort of assignment needed covering, and during that time I got to know the other people on the team, if there were any, but other than that I was working more or less on my own. It’s rather interesting to get to actually have in depth conversations with people who are still immersed in that world and now be on the other side of it.”

“That and he is very attractive,” Eela said with a grin.

~Eela

Yavia gave her a piercing look. “Oh so you intend to pick his brains about diplomatic policy though an in depth conversation over music and dinner? How dull. Surely you can find something more firey to discuss, Eela. I am sure diplomacy is not the only thing you can talk about.” Yavia was completely teasing her.

She threw her head back and laughed. “Oh, you see, that’s why we did that already, got it out of the way. Now we’re all warmed up,” she said with a wicked grin. Ahh! It felt good to be open like this, though on the whole she was a private person. Eela would never be an open book, but with her friends she came close.

A chirp from her pocket made her frown slightly and She pulled out her comm and the ear piece, popping it in and shaking her head. Cort, she mouthed to Yavia before stepping away a little. “You know, I swear I told you two to go home and not stay late… Uh huh… we’re going to be having dinner soon.” Eela stopped dead in her tracks, a wave of anxiety flooding through her. “Are you sure? Mhmmm… okay, I trust you. Okay… now go home, will you?” She laughed lightly. “I know, pot and kettle… Alright, good night.”

Eela pulled out the earpiece and stuffed it back in her tunic pocket, blowing out a breath. It wasn’t overwhelm, nor quite dread, but an uncertainty. Her fingers tapped on her thigh as she retrieved her PaDD from earlier and stared at it dark screen. “So… I did a thing,” she said, looking up to meet Yavia’s gaze. “I responded to the vid… directly. As me; no official statement or anything, just some facts and some honesty. And Cort and Elema are keeping an eye on the reactions for anything that might be concerning and need to be dealt with. Apparently he wants me to go take a look at what’s unfolding, that it was really important.” And it was clear even to herself that she couldn’t quite bring herself to do so, even if it was not as bad as she had anticipated.

Yavia pulled the sprouts out of the oven and placed a cover over them to keep them warm. “Yep, I know. Saw it already, and it is important, what’s happening. Up to you if you want to know or not,” Yavia said matter of factly. She turned back to the chiller and started scooping ice into glasses and filling drinks. She looked up as she heard a car approach and pull around the back. No notice from the guys outside, so it had to be Charles and Sharah. A huge smile spread across her face. She was ready for them to be home with her.
