There were times she actually did wish someone on her detail was telepathic so she could communicate more in depth, but they did have their signs and signals. In this case, Eela’s paranoid brain was wondering if someone was behind the bird and using it to get something from her. Crazy, right? Discomfited, she turned to Chuck Mangioni and arched a brow, as if to say, ‘That was odd, right?’. So much for a quiet respite, Sipping her coffee, she rose to her feet and gazed up into the tree for a moment before heading off.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

In the tree, Hinky stamped his little bird feet furiously and took out his frustration when he saw a juicy Andorian caterpillar, scooping it in his beak.

A little snack always helped him think.

Speaking of snacks, it looked like the rich-seeming woman, his new meal ticket, was leaving the bench. This would not do.

Hinky flapped out of the crest of the tree and scoped Eela’s form from above, trailing the woman and her security detail from the air. He fell in with a couple sparrows looping over the square and kept watch.

-Hinky on surveillance

There was a twinge on her senses, not quite like a mind she could sense near her, but that familiar sense of life she had felt earlier. It was stronger than the background feelings about her and so Eela stopped and braced her hand on her hip, casting her gaze upwards. Yep, of course. The parrot had followed her.

She would not be chased from the Square by a bird, and so Eela Dasca stared at the brightly coloured creature, her mind focused intently on the tiny mystery forming before her.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

She stopped, Hinky thought.

He made a few feeble sparrow noises, but he knew it was futile.

Maybe it was time to get fruits the old fashioned way. Playing it frank.

He broke away from the sparrows and spiraled his way back down from the skies above Sloane Square and landed with a fat thud and shake in front of Eela.

He peered up at her with a well of feeling in his eyes, like a cartoon bear might make.

-Hinky, animatedly

“You know, this is getting a little tiresome,” Dasca said to the bird now at her feet. She loved living creatures of all kinds, but she did object to being stalked by one.

Eryn laughed at the antics of the bird. She waved to Eela’s head security and showed her ID as well as pointing out her own guard, a bulky Orion by the name of Mastik. She wasn’t there officially as part of the CIA, but it never hurt to be respectful. Her guards would recognize her as the illusive artist that had taken up residence on the colony. A few, depending on who they were and what they were told, might know her as an agent under Dir James. It depended. “Zhat is a Risan Parrot. Zhey are sentient and moody and irritating. Zhey have zhe maturity of a moody teenager. He is probably attracted to your clothes and jewelry.” The woman had almost white blonde hair and dark green eyes. She wore a humored smile while eyeing the bird. She was dressed in skin tight Yudig cotten pants and a hip length ohlovig blouse. She had large sunglasses perched on her head and a scarf wrapped around her neck. “He probably vants food. Zhey are spoiled even in zhe wild. Careful zhough. Once you feed it, it will never leave you alone. I made zhat mistake vhen I vas living on Risa.”

Eryn

Dasca’s security accepted Eryn’s ID and so Eela turned to take in the newcomer to the scene and snorted at her comments. “Well, the sentient part makes a lot of sense giving the odd pings on my senses,” she said, eyeing the parrot with more seriousness, though not quite a glare. “I tried to explain that my coffee wouldn’t be to their taste.” She pressed her fingertips to her chest. “Eela Dasca. And you are?”

“Eryn Romanov, Lt Gov.” She held out her hand. “Newly local artist, among other zhings.” Of course it was possible the governor had mentioned her as well. It was a fine balance since Mastik didn’t know Eryn’s other job. It was tiresome.

“Yes! I remember your work from a gallery opening I attended just after I arrived. It was very impressive,” Dasca said.

She was almost tempted to crouch down, but then getting back up with coffee in hand would be a nuisance and she didn’t know what the parrot would do. “Do you know if it’s common for them to be able to mimic voices? Not just words for tone and everything?”

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Eryn raised her brows, that was interesting and disturbing. She could see lots of uses for such a creature and none of them pleasant. “No, I have not heard of zhat. Zhat would require some alterations to zhe vocal chords of zhe bird to be able to do zhat. Of course perhaps zhe bird is just exceptionally motivated. I vould be very wary.” Eryn’s eyes scanned the area, she would prefer to give a mental scan to see if anyone was watching the bird and the Lt Gov but by all accounts Dasca was a perceptive empath. Best to remain giving the impression of being human.

Eryn

Hinky sat dumbstruck at the foot of these women like–well–like a stuffed bird. But Lieutenant Governor still sounded pretty ding dang important to the parrot and he wasn’t about to give up on a potential source of upward mobility just because of some buttinski.

Ahem” he cleared his throat.

“Risan parrots are very capable speakers if only they had someone they wanted to speak to!” he said, glaring at Eryn.

Eela blinked.

Eryn laughed and winked at Dasca, “See, moody teenager.” She looked at the bird, “I did not say you could not talk. I said I did not know if it vas normal zhat you mimic voices. Listen to all zhat is said.”

“And if your majesty would excuse my dumb bird act earlier,” he said, bowing and extending one wing toward Eela, “I was only being cautious! Many people can be quite unpleasant to a gifted young bird, as you can see.”

He glared again at Eryn.

-Hinky, argumentatively

Eryn chuckled, the burd liked rich. He should pay attention to the clothes and not just jewelry. Eryn was exceptionally rich, and very eccentric. A talking bird was nothing, a sentient one was a wonder.

Changing her mind and knowing this needed a more direct approach, Dasca did crouch down, setting her coffee in front of her, eyed the bird and then gestured to her security detail. “You see those people, friend? They get a little testy when someone interferes with me in a way they perceive as being a threat. I would be very careful about the games you play with someone,” she said, her hazel eyes intense, channelling that perfect stern expression every commanding officer cultivated for such a purpose. “Especially if you wish to exit the exchange unscathed.”

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Eryn

“Your highness!” Hinky said, peering into the Lieutenant Governor’s eyes. “I’m not playing games.”

That just made Dasca quirk her brows which pushed them against her brow ridges and that only made her expression seem that much more stern.

He flapped his wings and perched on the shoulder of one of Eela’s bodyguards.

“I’m new here and maybe I thought you could help me.”

He propelled off the security team member and fluttered over to Eela, landing prostrate before her.

The bird was lucky his time spent touching the agent was so very brief, but all the same Chuck was already putting in a discreet call.

“I am a victim here!” he said. “Why can’t you see that?”

-Hinky, melodramatically

Even my kids wouldn’t have pulled this crap, Eela thought. She to her feet carefully in a methodical manner, making sure to engage her core muscles, and took her coffee with her. She exchanged a look with Eryn, clearly unimpressed.

She glanced at Agent Mangioni and they had a very subtle exchange. “Tell you what, I personally can’t do a whole lot for you in this moment but we have someone who can help you out. But harassing people won’t be tolerated, do you understand?”
