Ilena walked to the edge of the stage and knelt down. “It’s okay, I know how they are. See you when it’s over.” She gave a wave and returned to her seat and Shrine moved forward. Sharah’s stomach felt ill. Yavia would hug her if she could.
“We are down to our last two bachelorettes. First, our lovely and talented chief of staff, chief Medical Officer Lt Cmdr Dr Sharah Fayth.” Sharah wanted to disappear through the floor of the stage, instead she stood in her orange and white accented dress and made her way to the stool. “Dr Fayth is offering an afternoon of classical music at the The Anfait Botanical Gardens.”
Sharah didn’t even want to look at the board. Instead at Yavia’s me tal.prodding she smiled and waved.
current bid: 700
Sharah
The bidder was a well-known businessman who dealt in antiques and art. To say he was a used-slider salesman would have been an insult to thise same salesmen. With slicked back hair and way too many necklaces; he was rhe human equivalent of a Ferengi.
Thankfully, another bid came in. The owner of the local bookstore, an androgynous Deltan, bid 900. The salesman bid 1500. The Deltan 1700. 1900. 2300. 2700. 3000. And on it went for almost a full thirty seconds, finally reaching 25000 credits from the salesman. The Deltan looked at Sharah and mouthed I’m sorry, I tried. and the counter began counting down. 10…

2…Sharah gave rhe Deltan a smile. She had seen him before as she walked around rhe city. She would have to go visit his store. She always meant to. The other though…made her feel ill. Very ill. Charles was giving her a Guard if that man won.
“100,000 credits.” a singular voice said above the crowd. The computer registered the bid before the time expired and there was a creative gasp at the amount… and a bigger gasp when the bidder stepped forward.
Governor Hyrushi.
He walked forward slowly, obsidian eyes locked on the salesman. When he was close enough,he stopped just as rhe timer expired. He extended a hand and said “Thank you for your attempt to help the hospital and the refugees, Mr. Ripkin. I’m sorry I beat you. But you can still donate, of course.” Ripkin looked at the Governor for a moment and then inclined his head. “Of course, Governor. Always a pleasure to go against you in such trivial things as credits.” Hyrushi slow gave him a gracious half-bow and then he walked to the stage and looked at Fayth. “Doctor.” he said… and then turned and walked back towards rhe refreshments.
Hyrushi, Governor
“Governor.” To say she was surprised was an understatement. She hadn’t spoken or seen him, in person, since he had dropped her at the hospital. Shrah smiled and waved as she took her seat, glad it was over. The thought occurred to her that the Governor seemed to rescue her from the oddest situations.
Shrine stood beaming! And such juicy gossip to consider. The governor bid on Sharah! And where was Tenkiller? No bids at all. But Between Ilena and Sharah that should keep them busy for awhile.”Thank you Dr Fayth and Governor Hyrushi.”
“Our final Lady really doesn’t need my introduction. Lieutenant Governor Eela Dasca!” There were lots of applause and cheering from the other ladies and audience.
Sharah and Shrine
Eela let out a little laugh as she slipped off her stool. Overall she had watched the proceedings with enthusiasm. Of course Lord Duroc’s reaction was expected even if it did startle her, and as the bidding crept every up, Eela wasn’t sure what to expect by the time it came to her. But Kenzo’s massive bid actually delighted her. It was a sincere compliment to Sharah even if it might simply be a counter to an unsavoury bidder.
She had allowed herself to blend in with the other ladies, hoping people would forget she was there and focus on the others properly as they deserved. This of course played out except for one exception who was keeping a periodic and nonchalant eye on her. Dashiel Jones. But she was also careful to keep her thoughts and emotions behind her shields with more intention.
When Eela had woken up this morning after such an unexpected evening she had found an ease within her that she had carried through the day. So as she moved to the centre stool, she moved with a confidence that was beyond even what she had when going about her work. The public were used to seeing her in serious situations related to executing her duties, or in a casual and friendly chit-chatting mode at places like the Farmer’s Market. This was a different Eela. The black top of her dress gently hugged her upper body with elbow length sleeves and as she moved, the cream silk skirt moved revealing the swathes of gold and teal that made up abstract bird wings. As she sat down on the stool she let the skirt flare out about her and settle over her legs as she found a comfortable position and flashed the crowd a cheeky grin.
Wearing a tiny black mic on her dress, she addressed the crowd. “First off, before we get into things, I wanted to thank you all for coming out tonight. Events like this are very important and demonstrate that we can come together as a community. And I also think we should all take a moment to thank Nurse Alice Shrine and all the wonderful people at Sacred Heart for all their hard work in putting this event together,” she said, leading the audience in a round of applause as she smiled warmly at Shrine.
Once the applause had died down, Eela continued, and if anyone was bored by her talking so far they would hate an evening with her so she considered an easy way to weed out those that would make the night difficult. “So, I grew up immersed in the arts and it’s something I’ve always enjoyed. In coming to Oed I’ve been enjoying getting to know the arts scene. Next week the community theatre is putting on a performing arts showcase that’s fairly early in the evening and afterwards I’m going to dinner at a this great little jazz lounge I’ve discovered.”
Predictably, one of the first bids was Jones for 2000 credits.

Karilan caught Eela’s eye and gave her a very obvious wink and then entered a bid: 3000.
Massat, Owner- Quill and Parchment Books
Eela grinned. Well, at least there were a couple people she knew and though she had walked out without any nerves, now she was actually pleased with the situation. Between them and Kenzo’s emergency out (which she was sure she wouldn’t need now) this would be okay.
Other bids filtered in. 3500. 3800. 4000. 4500. 5300.
Dash definitely had a limit and they weren’t there yet. He put in a bid for 6000.
~Eela Dasca & Dashiel Jones
Kenzo had stepped up to Katilan and whispered something in their ear and they hid a laugh and shook their bald head. A new bid appeared on the display: 6001.
Hyrushi / Massat
Jones eyed the bid with a small snort.
A couple of the other bidders dropped out but a well known (and wealthy) arts patron was easily still in it. She put in a bid of 10,000.
Undeterred, Dash bid 15,000.
~Dash Jones, Determined Attaché
That bid lasted all of a second before another bid usurped it’s top spot: 15,001. Karilan looked at Jones and smiled. “Good to see you again, Mr. Jones.” and they chuckled.
