The guards chuckled and one said “Lady Duroc, perhaps you should see the evening as a success? After all, Lord Duroc absolutely did not kill them.”

Jal’na paused, “I didn’t say it wasn’t a success. I said you should not be surprised at the outcome.” Then she gave a most feral grin, “But it is a shame he didn’t kill them.”

Shrine cleared her throat, “Ms Ilena Rox if you will take center seat.” Ilena stood, wearing navy blue slacks, scrappy heals and a rose colored off center v-neck sweater. The hem barely reaching the waist of her slacks. “Ms Rox, our chief surgical nurse, is offering dinner at The Comet Drum, followed by an evening at the debut of Oed’s own Ballet Group.”

Yavia whistled and Ilena did a twirl and a little bow toward the other Nurse, laughing and took her seat. Bidding started at 1000.

Bidding Board

A betazoid Starfleet doctor in the audience bid 2000. Aloof thus far during the event, he was now laser focused on the stage and the bids.

One of the CCDA agents, a human male who somehow managed to only be on duty every time Ilena was, walked to the bid terminal and took a breath. He looked at Ilena and smiled. <New Bid, 5264 credits>

Agent Simms

Adaril’s frown deepened. A new bid appeared, quickly after the previous one: 6500 credits.

The dejection on Simms’ face was almost palpable. He gave Ilena a small smile and wave, and began walking back to his seat. A few faces turned and looked, and few more whispered, including some of the nurses. As the timer locked in the bid and it began counting down, three of the nurses rushed the pedestal and tapped frantically. <New Bid: 8,000 credits> The nurses went to Simms and whispered and pointed at Ilena. He looked confused and finally one of them, taking a page from Yavia’s playbook, set her hands on her hips and looked at him like he was an idiot and said “You wanna win, right?” and Simms took a breath and nodded. Tbat seemed to spur activity in the cadre of nurses who began talking to complete strangers in energetic whispers.

Agent Simms and His Backers

That’s how he was going to play, was it? Adaril was not going to lose. Not for Ilena. He shot Simms a glare that could kill and then tapped furiously.

<New Bid: 12,000 credits>

But it wasn’t Simms who he was playing against. He was up against a group of nurses whose most favorite thing, next to caring for their patients, was juicy and cheesy romantic gestures. They had been over the noon with Yavia and Tenkiller. Then Dr. Fayth? They had hit the juicy jackpot… or so they thought. Suddenly Jal’na was married and now this poor love-struck fool was quite obviously enamored of Ilena (although most knew that already… except maybe Ilena). Oh, it was ON. They began a bucket brigade of donations to the cause, and the people around them were enjoying it immensely. So much so, the next bid came in: <New Bid: 18,500 credits>

Agent Simms and The Nurses

Adaril had a bonding contract with Ilena. It wasn’t simply love struck foolishness that drove him. Of course, the date was simply a fluke intended to make money for charity. It wasn’t the end of the world if Adaril didn’t win. But he wanted it. Desperately. The bid was going up and up. Luckily, Adaril was usually a thrifty saver. He could match it. Looking at the board, he tapped away once more and a new bid appeared: <New Bid: 21000 credits>

~ NE Aveli

The massive Klingon Lord glared at the bidder and then walked over to the nurses and grumbled something. One said “No. Absolutely not. But you can give to the fund.” He grumbled something else and then: <New bid: 25000 credits>

Agent Simms

Adaril glanced over at the group with another glare and typed in another bid, not quite ready to give up. <New Bid: 30000>

~ NE Aveli

Ilena watched on in total confusion. What was going on? This was crazy! And the nurses were making it worse.. and oh dear Jal’na’s…husband? No that was weird, but that was a thought for another day, was helping. Ilena kept staring at the other bidder trying to figure out who it was. She knew Simms. He was a nice guy, but why the nurses were being so crazy over it was list on Ilena at first. But who was rhe other bidder. He seemed soooo familiar, but she couldn’t quite see his face.

By now, the nurses had stirred the crowd into a frenzy. Wallets were out, slips and bars of latinum were being dumped into nurse’s dresses that were held like baskets, and people were negotiating within sharks for extra funds. Okay, the last part was an exaggeration… but not by much. The funds were rapidly tallied by nurses who could do dosage calculations in their heads, and just before the timer expired on the last bid, and new one entered.

<New Bid: 44,000 credits; 85 slips and 6 Bars of latinum>

We Deserve A Happy Ending

OOC: fixing split

Now that was way outside Adaril’s budget. There was no way, shape, or form he could ever find that much money. With a long, defeated sigh, he flipped his PaDD over and ducked his head.

Ilena blinked. What?? And the feelings were getting…tumultuous. She glanced back at Sharah and Yavia and then at Shrine. But the bid was locked in. 7…8…9…10

Who was that? Ilena didn’t recognize him, but he felt very disappointed.

BIDDING CLOSED
Agent Sims - 44,000 credits; 85 slips and 6 Bars of latinum

Ilena

Simms turned a hundred shades of red as everyone cheered and almost ahoced him towards the stage. He looked at Illena and smiled in total embarrassment. “I.. uh… um… s-sorry… about… well… um… all of that.”

Agent Simms

Ilena walked to the edge of the stage and knelt down. “It’s okay, I know how they are. See you when it’s over.” She gave a wave and returned to her seat and Shrine moved forward. Sharah’s stomach felt ill. Yavia would hug her if she could.

“We are down to our last two bachelorettes. First, our lovely and talented chief of staff, chief Medical Officer Lt Cmdr Dr Sharah Fayth.” Sharah wanted to disappear through the floor of the stage, instead she stood in her orange and white accented dress and made her way to the stool. “Dr Fayth is offering an afternoon of classical music at the The Anfait Botanical Gardens.”

Sharah didn’t even want to look at the board. Instead at Yavia’s me tal.prodding she smiled and waved.

current bid: 700

Sharah

The bidder was a well-known businessman who dealt in antiques and art. To say he was a used-slider salesman would have been an insult to thise same salesmen. With slicked back hair and way too many necklaces; he was rhe human equivalent of a Ferengi.

Thankfully, another bid came in. The owner of the local bookstore, an androgynous Deltan, bid 900. The salesman bid 1500. The Deltan 1700. 1900. 2300. 2700. 3000. And on it went for almost a full thirty seconds, finally reaching 25000 credits from the salesman. The Deltan looked at Sharah and mouthed I’m sorry, I tried. and the counter began counting down. 10…

Sharah gave rhe Deltan a smile. She had seen him before as she walked around rhe city. She would have to go visit his store. She always meant to. The other though…made her feel ill. Very ill. Charles was giving her a Guard if that man won.

“100,000 credits.” a singular voice said above the crowd. The computer registered the bid before the time expired and there was a creative gasp at the amount… and a bigger gasp when the bidder stepped forward.

Governor Hyrushi.

He walked forward slowly, obsidian eyes locked on the salesman. When he was close enough,he stopped just as rhe timer expired. He extended a hand and said “Thank you for your attempt to help the hospital and the refugees, Mr. Ripkin. I’m sorry I beat you. But you can still donate, of course.” Ripkin looked at the Governor for a moment and then inclined his head. “Of course, Governor. Always a pleasure to go against you in such trivial things as credits.” Hyrushi slow gave him a gracious half-bow and then he walked to the stage and looked at Fayth. “Doctor.” he said… and then turned and walked back towards rhe refreshments.

Hyrushi, Governor

“Governor.” To say she was surprised was an understatement. She hadn’t spoken or seen him, in person, since he had dropped her at the hospital. Shrah smiled and waved as she took her seat, glad it was over. The thought occurred to her that the Governor seemed to rescue her from the oddest situations.

Shrine stood beaming! And such juicy gossip to consider. The governor bid on Sharah! And where was Tenkiller? No bids at all. But Between Ilena and Sharah that should keep them busy for awhile.”Thank you Dr Fayth and Governor Hyrushi.”

“Our final Lady really doesn’t need my introduction. Lieutenant Governor Eela Dasca!” There were lots of applause and cheering from the other ladies and audience.

Sharah and Shrine

Eela let out a little laugh as she slipped off her stool. Overall she had watched the proceedings with enthusiasm. Of course Lord Duroc’s reaction was expected even if it did startle her, and as the bidding crept every up, Eela wasn’t sure what to expect by the time it came to her. But Kenzo’s massive bid actually delighted her. It was a sincere compliment to Sharah even if it might simply be a counter to an unsavoury bidder.

She had allowed herself to blend in with the other ladies, hoping people would forget she was there and focus on the others properly as they deserved. This of course played out except for one exception who was keeping a periodic and nonchalant eye on her. Dashiel Jones. But she was also careful to keep her thoughts and emotions behind her shields with more intention.

When Eela had woken up this morning after such an unexpected evening she had found an ease within her that she had carried through the day. So as she moved to the centre stool, she moved with a confidence that was beyond even what she had when going about her work. The public were used to seeing her in serious situations related to executing her duties, or in a casual and friendly chit-chatting mode at places like the Farmer’s Market. This was a different Eela. The black top of her dress gently hugged her upper body with elbow length sleeves and as she moved, the cream silk skirt moved revealing the swathes of gold and teal that made up abstract bird wings. As she sat down on the stool she let the skirt flare out about her and settle over her legs as she found a comfortable position and flashed the crowd a cheeky grin.

Wearing a tiny black mic on her dress, she addressed the crowd. “First off, before we get into things, I wanted to thank you all for coming out tonight. Events like this are very important and demonstrate that we can come together as a community. And I also think we should all take a moment to thank Nurse Alice Shrine and all the wonderful people at Sacred Heart for all their hard work in putting this event together,” she said, leading the audience in a round of applause as she smiled warmly at Shrine.

Once the applause had died down, Eela continued, and if anyone was bored by her talking so far they would hate an evening with her so she considered an easy way to weed out those that would make the night difficult. “So, I grew up immersed in the arts and it’s something I’ve always enjoyed. In coming to Oed I’ve been enjoying getting to know the arts scene. Next week the community theatre is putting on a performing arts showcase that’s fairly early in the evening and afterwards I’m going to dinner at a this great little jazz lounge I’ve discovered.”

Predictably, one of the first bids was Jones for 2000 credits.

~Eela Dasca

Karilan caught Eela’s eye and gave her a very obvious wink and then entered a bid: 3000.
