The student made a bid of 3100.
Then 3800, 4000, 4500, 4600 in quick succession. 1…2…3…4 seconds passesd.

Donovan, worked security at the tower, caught Cort’s eye and grinned. Clearly wondering how far Cort would go. It wasn’t likely he had any more to bet.

5…6…seconds.

Bidding Board

The pause made him consider whether he even had a chance. He didn’t consider himself an overly competitive person, but the fact that Fen apparently wanted him to bid (probably just to mock him later for it), well he was in it now. He bid 5000. That was him done though. He had hit his limit.

~Cort Belanger

Bids of 4800 and 4875 were entered and then stopped at Cort’s 5000. The counter started over. Ten seconds never semlemed to take so long before. Then his bid flashed with the 3 second countdown.

Cort Belanger, 5000 Credits

Shrine clapped as the screen flashed the winning bid. “Wonderful! Thank you Ms Fen and Mr Belanger.”

Shrine

Wait, what? Cort was actually surprised.

Dorma looked down at him…

To his credit, Cort didn’t smirk or anything of the sort. He did give a half-shrug.

And rolled her eyes. She stood up and shook her head, but smiled good-naturedly before walking off the stage.

Dorma Fen

Did Cort expect anything else? Actually, no. Though given earlier comments by Hyrushi he was starting to believe the Governor had a deeper sense of humour than he was letting on.

The auction progressed through several more ladies offering dinners to movies to picnics to piloting lessons. The auction pulled in another 25,000 credits between them all. “Our next bachelorette is our Nurse of Special Cases, Yavia Crockett.” Yavia stood. “Ms Crockett will be treating her highest bidder to her favorite past time, a little league baseball game and concession stand cuisine.” Her dress was ultra-feminine. It was a captivating two-piece burgandy dress that revealed a sexy and charming waistline. The flattering fitted bodice had a sheer lace neckline and long sleeves over the sweetheart lining ending slightly modest but short enough to give a glimpse of skin, whilst the chiffon skirt fell very naturally on Yavia and parted with a dramatic side slit.

It was Yavia, so of course she gave all the ladies on stage a wicked smile and wink before twirling and strutting to the center stool. And of course as Jal’na and Eela predicted, Yavia’s outfit helped increase the bids.

The first bid was 2000 by none other than William who was showered, hair cut, brand new suit, and clean. Then 3000 and 3500 and whispers of, “She’s Deltan.”

Then 4000 by one Dr Arlen Helaky.

Yavia

And then a bid of 6000 credits came up almost immediately.

Unknown Bidder(s)

Yavia turned to look at the screen as the emotional flow paused. She turned back around and gave a little finger wiggle wave. To who she had no idea. But this was for charity and she was going to have fun.

William bid 6200. Then there was 6500, 7000, then 8000. That one from a group of CCDA agents that decided to pool their money and laughed tossing Yavia a handful of winks.

Yavia

There was a pause… the timer started… and then…

20,000 credits.

Anonymous

The murmuring in the crowd stopped and Yavia looked over her shoulder. She was still grinning but Yavia wasn’t thrilled. Sharah, if, and that is a big if, Shrine ever does this again, no anonymous bidders! What is that?

Sharah’s mental laughter teased her, I told you not to wear that dress.

The timer started as Yavia continued to play the crowd, but no further bids arrived.

BIDDING CLOSED
Anonymous Bidder - 20,000 credits
Identification due with Payment

Shrine was stunned and then remembered her voice, “Thank you Ms Crockett and our donor.” Yavia waved and returned to her seat.

Bidding Board

The murmuring of the crowd was cut by a high pitcher giggle. A human woman in her late sixties or early seventies (at least) laughed and threw her arms around a similarly aged Bolian male. “Oh my big blue wonder. Thank you!” They both stood, slowly, and made their way to the payment kiosk. The elderly couple waved at Yavia and smiled in genuine happiness that almost poured off of them. They paid as if buying a street-taco, and then waved at Yavia. “See you in a little while!” the woman said.

Mr. And Mrs. Borchek

Yavia waved at the couple with a laugh. Aww they were so cute and sweet. Well she lucked out then. She hoped they hadn’t blown a huge portion of their savings on this. But they didn’t seem bothered by the amount. Awww look how happy they were. Yavia exchanged grins with everyone else and shrugged.

“Next we have Ms Jessie Lyz. Our lucky bidder will be spending an afternoon picnic with special guests of the canine varity at the newly opened Oed Animal Shelter.” Jessie, a younger Bolian woman, was wearing tan slacks with a silvery shirt. She grinned broadly and waved as she took a seat on the stool.

Shrine

The bidding began at 300 credits and went up to about 2000 after several pauses. Eryn looked up at a window across from the park and smirked and turned back to the board. Another bid of 2500 and then 3000. The bidding had come down between two young men. One that Jessie had met in classes and the other a young man that worked as a chef in his parents’ restaurant.

There was a sudden bid of 5000 - William, again. Eryn did a quick calculation and entered the bid. There were gasps - 15 bars of gold pressed latinum.

The countdown started, Eryn waiting to see if she would have to increase the number.

Then 17 bars from someone who just wanted to play.

Eryn bid 20. The countdown started again, but wasn’t contested this time.

BIDDING CLOSED
Piediatric Long Term Cate Unit, Sponsored by Eryn the Artist - 20 Bars of Gold Pressed Latinum.

There were applause and surprise.

Eryn

“Thank you Jessie and Ms Eryn. The children will be exstatic.” And as if to prove Shrine’s point there were excited yells from the open window at the hospital.

“Next we have Dr Jal’na Sherko.” Shrine stopped her self from giggling. Sherko…right. But Shrine promised to keep her secret. “Dr Sherko is offering dinner at the new Rx’jIm restaurant. Authentic fresh Klingon cuisine, and for those with a strong stomach, a cooking lesson.”

Jal’na loathed this. It was absurd, but she stood and made her way toward the stool. She was wearing a dark grey flowing pant suit. The shirt had long sheer sleeves that trailed along the back to her knees. Marked by subtle but strategic embroidery. She thought it was flimsy, but Shrine ordered her to make an effort.

Jal’na

The bidding started at 50. A low growl rolled over the crowd from… somewhere… and then a bid of 500 from a young man with a noticeablescar across his face. Then 700. Then he bid 1000. Soon there seemed to be a war going on as bid after bid came in from the young man and a pair of identical twin brothers in very nice suits. Up and up it went, until the twins finally grinned. 10000 credits. The scar glared but said nothing. The counter began to count wind down. The twins giggled and pointed and one made a wholly obscene gesture where they thought no one could see…

And thats when the fight started.

Jal’na didn’t have time to be offended, she seemed to be the only one that noticed the massive Klingon stalking across the park.

Well, ‘fight’ was a strong term for it. As the gesture was made, a shadow fell across the table and two massive hands landed on a shoulder of each twin. They rose up in the air as Urg’tohn, Lord of House Duroc and Chosen of the Builder lifted each high above his head and then crashed them both back into and through their chairs while yelling at the top of his lungs “NO ONE DOES THAT TO MY WIFE!!!!” The two men screamed in pain and surprise and scrambled to their feet as Urg glared death at them. They turned and fled as fast as they could run. Urg, breathing heavy and with clenched fists stood and watched them run…

Wife? Did he say wife? The women in the stage were all staring at Jal’na, more because Jal’na wasn’t protesting. Similar statements, offers, passes were often met with the woman’s volatile temper. Instead Jal’na wasn’t looking at anyone and just sat there. Her shoulders shook either from laughter or anger. It was unclear because they couldn’t see her face.

Shrine was staring at the men running away, and Sharah thought she might pull a muscle from not laughing.

And then turned as calm as serene as he had ever been and looked at Shrine. “500 big bars of latinum and a scholarship fund for the University Medical School for those wanting to study to be Physical Therapists.”

Urg, Lord Duroc

No one moved until Jal’na turned and looked at Shrine. “I suggest you enter the bid before the timer runs out and he loses his temper.” Jal’na looked at Urg, oh she was certainly not laughing and she was far feom angry. A story to tell their grandchildren indeed. Short but a story.

Shrine grabbed her padd and very quickly manually entered the bid.

The crowd held their breath wondering if anyone would dare try to top that. Could anyone top that???

BIDDING CLOSED
Lord Duroc - 500 big bars of Latinum and Scholarship fund

Jal’na got up and stalked Shrine across the stage. She leaned down and said something to the woman that made Shrine laugh loudly and then Jal’na stalked off the stage.

Jal’na

Kenzo watched the event and when someone asked him if he was going to say something to the obviously ‘upset’ Klingon, he looked at them and said “And what would I say? That he should have allowed those two… ahem… ‘gentlemen’ to publicly demean his wife? As far as I am concerned, they relieved exactly what they deserved.” and he looked at Lord Duroc who was now looking at him after hearing the question. “And to be honest, I applaud Lord Duroc on exercising such an impressive amount of restraint. They left under their own power… I wonder if they realize how fortunate they are.”

Hyrushi, Governor

Urg nodded and said “Thank you, Governor Hyrushi. After all… I didn’t want to make a scene.” and he turned and walked off to collect his winnings.

Urg, Lord Duroc

His ‘winning’ was making her way down the stage stairs glaring daggers at the House Duroc guards standing at the bottom like she was a 9 month old learning to walk. And they were all grinning like idiots. She glared at them, “As if any other probability was likely,” and strode off.

Jal’na

The guards chuckled and one said “Lady Duroc, perhaps you should see the evening as a success? After all, Lord Duroc absolutely did not kill them.”

Shrine cleared her throat, “Ms Ilena Rox if you will take center seat.” Ilena stood, wearing navy blue slacks, scrappy heals and a rose colored off center v-neck sweater. The hem barely reaching the waist of her slacks. “Ms Rox, our chief surgical nurse, is offering dinner at The Comet Drum, followed by an evening at the debut of Oed’s own Ballet Group.”

Yavia whistled and Ilena did a twirl and a little bow toward the other Nurse, laughing and took her seat. Bidding started at 1000.

Bidding Board

A betazoid Starfleet doctor in the audience bid 2000. Aloof thus far during the event, he was now laser focused on the stage and the bids.

~ NE Aveli

One of the CCDA agents, a human male who somehow managed to only be on duty every time Ilena was, walked to the bid terminal and took a breath. He looked at Ilena and smiled. <New Bid, 5264 credits>

Agent Simms

Adaril’s frown deepened. A new bid appeared, quickly after the previous one: 6500 credits.

~ NE Aveli

The dejection on Simms’ face was almost palpable. He gave Ilena a small smile and wave, and began walking back to his seat. A few faces turned and looked, and few more whispered, including some of the nurses. As the timer locked in the bid and it began counting down, three of the nurses rushed the pedestal and tapped frantically. <New Bid: 8,000 credits> The nurses went to Simms and whispered and pointed at Ilena. He looked confused and finally one of them, taking a page from Yavia’s playbook, set her hands on her hips and looked at him like he was an idiot and said “You wanna win, right?” and Simms took a breath and nodded. Tbat seemed to spur activity in the cadre of nurses who began talking to complete strangers in energetic whispers.

Agent Simms and His Backers

That’s how he was going to play, was it? Adaril was not going to lose. Not for Ilena. He shot Simms a glare that could kill and then tapped furiously.

<New Bid: 12,000 credits>

~ NE Aveli

But it wasn’t Simms who he was playing against. He was up against a group of nurses whose most favorite thing, next to caring for their patients, was juicy and cheesy romantic gestures. They had been over the noon with Yavia and Tenkiller. Then Dr. Fayth? They had hit the juicy jackpot… or so they thought. Suddenly Jal’na was married and now this poor love-struck fool was quite obviously enamored of Ilena (although most knew that already… except maybe Ilena). Oh, it was ON. They began a bucket brigade of donations to the cause, and the people around them were enjoying it immensely. So much so, the next bid came in: <New Bid: 18,500 credits>

Agent Simms and The Nurses

Adaril had a bonding contract with Ilena. It wasn’t simply love struck foolishness that drove him. Of course, the date was simply a fluke intended to make money for charity. It wasn’t the end of the world if Adaril didn’t win. But he wanted it. Desperately. The bid was going up and up. Luckily, Adaril was usually a thrifty saver. He could match it. Looking at the board, he tapped away once more and a new bid appeared: <New Bid: 21000 credits>

~ NE Aveli

The massive Klingon Lord glared at the bidder and then walked over to the nurses and grumbled something. One said “No. Absolutely not. But you can give to the fund.” He grumbled something else and then: <New bid: 25000 credits>

Agent Simms

Adaril glanced over at the group with another glare and typed in another bid, not quite ready to give up. <New Bid: 30000>

~ NE Aveli

By now, the nurses had stirred the crowd into a frenzy. Wallets were out, slips and bars of latinum were being dumped into nurse’s dresses that were held like baskets, and people were negotiating within sharks for extra funds. Okay, the last part was an exaggeration… but not by much. The funds were rapidly tallied by nurses who could do dosage calculations in their heads, and just before the timer expired on the last bid, and new one entered.

<New Bid: 44,000 credits; 85 slips and 6 Bars of latinum>

We Deserve A Happy Ending
