“You’re not actually helping the cause, you know?” she called after him, before chuckling to herself. If she were being sensible, Eela would stay right where she was. But as had been slowly revealed since she arrived and Kenzo had a up-close viewing of, was that Eela Dasca’s mischievous side was stronger than it appeared and she was all to happy to indulge it. Ahh, what the hell!

Rolling carefully to the edge of the bed and planting one foot on the floor she pushed herself upright, meandering towards the shower. Yep, she would feel this night later. Still worth it.

A little after 0900 Eela woke up alone in bed after most definitely not enough sleep. Her body was tired but very used to getting up at a certain time and she was already pushing that. Saturdays were the Farmers Market after all. Yeah, that was not happening. As it was the auction was tonight and she’d need to be on her game. There was definitely a nap in her future.

She dressed, throwing the sweater dress back on, the brace very much needed and helpful. Eela brushed out her hair pulling it back loosely at the nape of her neck. She grabbed her comm checking for any messages and sure enough there was a reminder from Shrine of the arrival time for the auction participants. Comm in hand she wandered to the kitchen in search of coffee and a lot of water. If he wasn’t up yet she’d make some for them.

Kenzo was already awake and dressed. He was seated in the living room when she came down and he said “In here. Coffee is ready.”

Go figure he was up already. Probably not a shred of (visible) hangover either. Typical. “Thank goodness.”

He was dressed in soft cotton pants and a black t-shirt under a pale green robe. On the low coffee table was a pot of coffee, a pitcher of water, and some breakfast pastries.

Eela padded into the living room moving slowly but evenly and there was an ease in her body, a calmness. She lowered herself into a seat and reached forward to pour some coffee and grumbled. “I’m so glad I don’t have PT today. Though maybe Jal’na would give me a pass for time served,” she said, breaking into a slightly wicked grin as she tipped some coffee into a cup, and then some water, sitting back with one in each hand.

He looked at her and set aside the PaDD he had been reading and asked with a quiet sincerity “How do you feel? Is your back okay?” He slid a small bowl with two white pills in it to her. “Anti-inflammatories, if you need them.” He took a drink of coffee and then said “Are you staying for breakfast?”

Kenzo

Eela lifted her coffee mug. “This is my breakfast, though I might be tempted to have a pastry. We’ll see,” she said with a smile before sipping. Her roommate at the Academy had introduced her to the stuff and she’d been hooked on it ever since.

“As for how I feel-“she gave him a warm smile-“I’m good. A bit sore but nothing a dose of terakine won’t help with. I have to take the rest of meds when I get home anyway, but I appreciate the offer,” she said, with a nod of her head to the bowl. “I’m definitely not nearly as hungover as the night we learned about the Vren, so either we drank less, that stuff you gave me last time is evil, or it got worked out my system.” She actually had a hypothesis about that that seemed to check out, even anecdotally.

He shrugged and said “Same stuff as last time, so I will go with the latter.” He lifted the PaDD and waved it slightly. “The charity auction is the buzz of the feeds today. You remember the signal if you need an escape?”

Kenzo

She nodded and tapped her left thigh three times with her fingertips. “You know, this is the first public facing thing I’ve done that isn’t related to executing some part of my job. I’m still second-guessing my decision to participate but I know that it’s something I need to do for myself.” She had told Nurse Shrine as much. “And hopefully I won’t need the escape since Jones told me he was going, but I’m glad I have the option if I need it, so thank you.” Even if she ended up with some complete stranger, that actually would be fine with her. It was just knowing she had people there who would do what they could to make it less awkward for her. It would give her more confidence in what was really a ridiculous situation if you thought too hard on it.

He nodded at her signal, and then said “Good. I trust that the Mr. Jones will be a gentleman should he be fortunate enough to win the contest for your time.” and he went back to reading. “Oh… I was unaware that Ms. Fen would be participating… interesting. I certainly hope no one thinks she is offering more than her culinary skills. The last person to make unwarranted advances on her after she had previously declined lost their hand halfway to the elbow.” His tone was dry and flat, so it was very hard to tell if he was kidding or not.
